I was hesitant to dine at Tokyo Bay due to the negative reviews.  However, my boyfriend and I were  going to the new Bond (James Bond) movie at Showplace 16 Saturday night and were in the mood for sushi.  I made a reservation with Kathy, who was an absolute doll.  I mentioned our movie plans and she told me to bring the ticket stubs to the restaurant to get 10% off our bill.  Nice!
We walked over to Tokyo Bay after the movie (around 9:30 pm) and the place was surprisingly dead. Â Needless to say, we were seated immediately. Â Our server was the same Kathy who I had made the reservation with over the phone. Â I am a stickler for good service and found her charming and delightful, even allowing me to sample a couple of martinis before making a decision (I got the Mai Tai which was delicious!). Â The owner came over to say hello as well.
We got several rolls and they wonderful; however, taste notwithstanding, I don't think the size of the rolls justifies the price. Â Look, I am a sushi gal. Â Sushi House, Wild Tuna, Kiku, RA, Momoya, Japanais, I've done 'em all and these restaurants give you more bang for your buck. Â I believe there were only two rolls under $10 on the Tokyo Bay menu, which would be fine if the rolls were BIGGER. Â We had an excellent dining experience, but I do believe their menu is somewhat over-priced for what you actually get. Â
Overall, I DO RECOMMEND Tokyo Bay. Â Take your movie stub; get 10% off , and enjoy some truly delicious, creative sushi!
I do NOT understand the poor reviews.
We have dined there and never had any problems with wait staff. Â Always friendly and knowledgeable.
There is no hostess stand? Really? That is a problem for someone? The restaurant is decorated very nicely. With the family we've sat at the tables but when it is my husband and me we prefer the private booths.
The food is wonderful here. A new favorite of ours is the Crispy Tuna Tartar. Excellent! We sampled several of the specialty rolls such as Angry Dragon and Black Pearl. We also enjoy the various sushi offerings.
Please go and try it for yourself before you believe the negative ratings.
