Trap Rock Restaurant & Brewery

Had dinner about 5:30pm and the place was not busy. I was seated very quickly and the atmosphere was great.  The service was slow and I ordered the monkfish entree. A bread plate was set but never received any. The entree was supposed to have mixed rice but there was really any rice in the dish. It was warm not hot. The drink came during my meal and then the waitress disappeared for a while.

Had to ask for the check and then nominal in the pen,mhadvto search the pace for a pen since the waitress disappeared again.

For a $40.00 meal I expect  better.

One of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Highly recommend. The rosemary aioli adds to the flavor.

I've been to Trap Rock twice -- once two years ago and once just last week. Love the concept of the place and how they have a menu that gets updated depending on what's available locally. Great quality food and atmosphere. But things could be improved. Overall, we had a good experience so I'll start there.

Good

1) The blue cheese chips were AWESOME and a definitely highlight on the menu. The homemade pretzel and biscuit basket is delicious and a nice change from regular bread.

2) Drink selection is extensive and a beer lover's dream. Menu selection had a lot of great options as well including pulled pork mac n cheese, lots of seafood and inventive combos. Wanted to try several entrees!

Not so great

1) Prices are high for suburban NJ and portion size. A glass of wine is $10 and up and a bar tab adds up quickly.

2) Our server seemed half asleep with no enthusiasm at all about the menu. She went through the motions but she seemed bored and totally disinterested. Major bummer because we were pretty excited to be there!

3) Salmon was raw. I've never been asked how I'd like my salmon cooked (tuna yes, but salmon?) so when asked, I said "normal" and our server said well I'd recommend medium, so I went with that. Upon its arrival, the inside was raw (husband's too), actually translucent like sushi. Definitely NOT medium or the way cooked salmon should be in my opinion. So we told our server and she apologized saying "oh the kitchen gets busy, you know how it is" or something to that effect but she'd let the cook know. Then we NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HER. I'm not expecting anything for free at all (although a comped dessert would have been a nice surprise ;-)) but she could have at least looped back around to let us know our concern was heard. Instead, she never came back and another server took our dessert order and brought us the check. WTF?

4) The required valet parking is kind of annoying. The parking lot isn't that big! At least give people the option.

Like I said, overall Trap Rock is worth your time and I'd go again for sure!
