I haven't been here in a couple of years and not since it changed owners. Today found me close by and I stopped for lunch.
The place is funky but in a good way. Multi colored chairs out front made it easy for us to eat and still have our dog w/ us.
We orders two fried chicken cutlets on sub rolls with lettuce and tomatoes  from a spunky diminutive woman (Mama C I think).
Our food was made to order and came w/ potato salad and a piece of pickle. There was plenty of food.
The food itself was inconsistent. One sandwich was cold both the roll and the chicken. The other was fine, the chicken cutlet was hot and the tomato cold and crisp lettuce. The potato salad was okay, nothing special.
Mama C needs to up her game.

In my first week as a New Jersey resident, I had a lot of time to kill and a lot of places to try. On a whim, we decided to go into Madison for lunch and saw that Mama C's had good reviews. Thankfully, those reviews were accurate!

First off, if you're a new customer, they let you try out their meatball sliders  (which were awesome). Second, all the soups are homemade every day. I had the chicken noodle, which tasted a lot like what my mom and grandma make. A word of caution - they give you a TON of soup. I might even go so far as to recommend sharing it.  In addition to the awesome soup and meatball slider, I had a sandwich off their list of daily specials. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with roasted red peppers, mozzarella and arugula. It was delicious and held its integrity for leftovers the next day.

If you're looking for a good sandwich place, Mama C's is one you want to try out. The staff is clearly very passionate about their food -- The owner ships in his bread from New York every day! The homemade soups alone are worth a visit.

Such a cute spot. Cozy, unpretentious but great food. The French toast is different than your average lunch spot but tastier. But it's their potatoes that are banging! I will definitely be back :)
