Three stars because you only have so many chances to mess up before customers start to get really annoyed. Woman working was decent though it was odd she hesitated to take our drink order. Later we find that because one of my sisters wasn't 21 we couldn't eat there. Understandable, but why wasn't the whole staff aware of this rule? "I'll ask because I haven't heard of that ever" our waitress said. Ok. Not going to dwell. We take our food to go and walk back to our room. I was disappointed that my fries were cold.  but hey, 2 min is a long long time to walk back to the room right? Understandable right? Right when I take a bite of my burger my sister says, "guys they gave me a burger, I ordered chicken." Having to get up and walk back to the restaurant for the right order then and return to my room, cold fries and a cold burger. Understandable? Sorry. Wasn't pleased with how this all ended.

Decent drinks and bar food, but this place is vastly too small for the clientele.  They need to expand their space or hire a miracle designer who knows how to maximize the space they have.  The staff are friendly enough but there are never enough of them for the crowds bursting through the doors.  Plus, they are barely open on weekends--what's up with that???

Four stars for the staff, one star for the awful cafeteria-like food, three stars for the draft beer selection, and negative two stars for the ridiculous prices equals, ... Carry the one ... Um, Two stars.

Seriously ... If you have transportation, go into town.  We ate at the Crown & Anchor our first night in town, had way better food and beer, and spent $10 less for two people.

Great staff and service. The food is pretty good. Recommending the Chicken Wings. Best time to come is a Thursday and Friday is a close second.

The Trident Room is a historical bar in the middle of Naval Postgraduate School.  Cool place for drinks and dinner.  The staff is very friendly and most have been there for years and years.  Stop by before 6pm for a great burger and draft beer for only $8.  On Friday evening they offer free bar food....Beware of the "no cover" rule...

This place is great for a drink and to just enjoy a good conversation.  This is one of those places that you go to for the history.  Imagine all the people and stories that have been through these doors!

On Fridays, they serve free appies and the beer is cheap.  If you plan to go to the Trident room more than once, you have to get a mug that you can store on the ceiling and then drink from your own private mug each time you go back.

I love the history of the place and I think about all the people that started as ensigns and ended up as admirals, that have passed through these doors.

Plus, where else can you see Crazy George from the Farmer's Market on a Friday night!?!

If you are able to get on base, you have to check out this old school Sailor bar.  The old-school charm is enough to check out and pass through the amazing ball room upstairs, before you leave.  Not to mention the lovely garden outside of the bar.  It is all beautiful!

3.25 stars. They pour a pretty good drink for a pretty good price. The calamari is better than average. But when a big group of people is spending a lot of $ on drinks & appetizers, it would be nice if they provided enough silverware, napkins, etc. for everyone.

This place is full of old-school awesomeness. My husband's a civilian staff member at NPS so I get to reap the benefits of gaining entrance on campus and into this gem of a bar. Appropriately, the decor is a dark wooden nautical theme with pictures of old Navy ships and captains on the walls above the booths.

But the most impressive decor/functional storage method is the dozens of official NPS beer mugs that hang from the ceiling, each in their own spot with the owner's nickname and number underneath indicating their place. They are available for $20 and then every time you fill up the well-over 16 ounces it's $4. Good deal if you're a regular, and almost everyone there is. I prefer a dirty martini 'cause it just seems like the most appropriate drink to order...the bartender even came over to the table to shake and pour it for me on the spot. Classy!

The food here is decent but the outstanding value makes up for any lack of flavor, since you can use that extra savings for another beer or two. Last time I came I ordered the seafood linguine special which was surprisingly good with fresh mussels, clams and shrimp, came with an intensely anchovy-flavored Caesar salad with store-bought croutons and a glass of Chardonnay for around $16. Huge portions too.

Also, for happy hour they sometimes have free snacks (veggies, meatballs, etc.) and ALWAYS served fresh popped popcorn from a old-school machine with giant bowls. The only thing they need to do now is show old war movies and have movie and drinks night on Saturdays. PS - dinner only here, if you want lunch you have to order in the cafeteria but you can eat in the space.

I attended a dry wedding and lo and behold, a small little bar underneath it.  It's dive-y and inexpensive.  Waiting for the reception to start, I found the wedding party taking down shots and enjoying the free popcorn.  I would definitely encourage anyone to visit.

They accomodated our group of 25 without any problems and even gave us all separate checks. The food was a little slow, understandably, but there's no excuse for slow drinks. Free popcorn and peanuts. Free Pool and darts. $15 commemorative trident room steins - made for the most amazing  night out. Surely, not a place you'll forget if you're in Monterey. The atmosphere is so much laid back here it's fun. You can bring your whole family, including your dog and no one bats an eye. I'm hooked!
