Stayed at Ski Time Square right next to the The Tugboat recently. Â Fairly priced and food that was surprisingly good given the bar environment. Â Friendly staff and a place for live music (although we were too tired from the slopes to stay late enough to enjoy it). Â Went back again and had some delicious chicken wings, they have a great dry rub and an even better asian wing. Â I can certainly also recommend the nachos.
Review Source:We stopped in for a quick lunch when we first got into town. My burger was awesome, as was my husband's chicken sandwich. The fries were kind of disappointing but the beer made up for it! My one complaint is parking. The only free parking is on the street; the lot directly behind the restaurant is $5 in the afternoon. One garage nearby says it's free for two hours but the attendant asked where we were going and we told him the Tugboat. He said, "They have their own parking and you can't park here." I guess I should have said we were just out shopping!
Review Source:If you want great bar food, great drinks, and great atmosphere this is your place! Â The chili was the best chili I've ever had and their fries...yum! Â We were with a large group, and ate here 2 out of 4 days, Â so we sampled a lot of the menu...the chicken fingers appetizer (which could be a meal) are delicious, the stuffed mushrooms, nachos, catfish, sandwiches, etc were all excellent. Â If you want a great place for apres or a casual/relaxed atmosphere for dinner then this place is a must! Â The staff were all very friendly as well!
Review Source:This is my first time to Steamboat Springs and last night we went to The Tugboat ... honestly the best chili I have ever had! The beer I drank was the Tugboat ale (not sure if that is the right name) - all I have to say is it was a great Ale! Everyone I was with raved about what they ate and the staff is so friendly and helpful. If you are in Steamboat this place is a must! Will for sure be back before we leave Steamboat!
Review Source:I remember drinking excessively at this place on several occasions in the 90s, but had never tried the food (at least I don't think I did). Â This has been a recurring theme for me. Â For example, I saw my first show in Vegas on my 30th trip when my wife explained that not everybody shows up schnockered and remain that way for three-days in the sports book with their baboon friends. Â
We ended up at the Tugboat because it was Christmas Day and every restaurant up close to the mountain was packed, with minimum half-hour waits to be seated. Â We were able to walk right into the Tugboat, and be seated straight away. Â We started off with chips and salsa, and we expected something out of a bottle like you would get at most bars. Â We were surprised by the freshly made salsa that was delivered to our table. Â It was great. Â Otherwise we just had burgers and fries, but again, these were not frozen patties or fries. Â The burgers were juicy and delicious, and the fries were fresh cut and tasty. Â Yeah, it was typical bar fare, but it was surprisingly good.
Oh the Tugger.
This turned out to be a favorite spot of my buddy and mine over our 8 day stay... Visiting 3 times for beers and appetizers. The Guinness onion soup was not great..l but when I told the owner he was quick to go discuss with the cook and shared ideas for improvements he would make to the next batch. The nachos were good, the grilled chicken sandwich was pretty typical. The fries were excellent!
We spent hours visiting with Molly and Missy the bartenders, really fun people who actually seemed to care about how we were enjoying our time in Steamboat. Also, Jim the new owner (of the past 10 months) was a great person to chat with. The daily drink specials are very good ($2.50 drafts, or whiskey Wednesday's, or $2 domestics) and definitely the best in the mountain village. These guys have service and culture down well, their food was typical, and the drinks were great! Can't wait to go back.
Been coming to the Tugboat for decades (once each annual ski trip), and we were leary of trying it under the new ownership. Fear no more! Had a great meal (New York Strip) great time, great service, met some locals, including the new owner who was the NICEST guy!!!
While so much has changed in this quaint and original town, it's nice to know that much of what is appealing about Steamboat...the old Western charm, friendly people, and a guarantee of a good time, is still the norm at the Tugboat.
While out in Steamboat a couple of weeks ago, our group headed out for dinner to celebrate a birthday and to see more of the town. One of the first places we passed while walking around was the Tugboat Grill & Pub. Once I entered the inside of the 'boat I immediately remembered stopping here on a previous visit to Steamboat years ago. After telling those in our group that I had been here before, it seemed that everyone in the room overheard me and told me that they get that a lot.
It seems that during non-peak ski season, the Tugboat is likely filled with a good number of local regulars that help to keep it in business, which it has been doing since 1972. The inside of the wooden structure is full of animal trophies as well as lots of other memorabilia. That was what I remembered most from our past visit. What I should have remembered was there incredible drink prices during happy hour, even offered on a couple of craft selections. They also had a couple of half price appetizers. We had the Chili Verde - green chili, pork, and some other secret things - which was really good!
For dinner I selected the chicken burrito ($11.99) - shredded seasoned chicken, melted Colby and cheddar cheese rolled in a chipotle flour tortilla, topped with pork chili verde. Â Served with a side of Spanish rice, black beans, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and guacamole. First off this was a huge plate of food! Even with my wife helping me out, we still had plenty of leftovers. In addition to the large size, the dish was big on flavor too.
Others in the group had burgers, soups, and other various sandwiches. Everyone seemed to be happy with their dinner selections and I think nearly every plate was completely finished. Our service was excellent and I would definitely not hesitate to return for a third visit.
Worst experience with hospitality we have ever had! Â Doormen made personal selections with regards to who was allowed in... Â One in one out and reentry with stamp are all understandable, but allowing two guys in before us after we had been standing there waiting a while is completely ridiculous. Â Stay away or at least away from the husky doorman and his sidekick with a mohawk! Â Ignore the star it was mandatory to post this review.
Review Source:This is a review on the drinks and entertainment only.
Service was quick, bartenders friendly, the live music was great and the dancing was lots of fun. The crowd this night was very friendly overall a great place to relax and have a great time.
Cocktails were average to slightly better than average taste and strength.
The Tugboat is a great Steamboat institution. Â Great food, fun bar. Â Recently stopped there for lunch. Â Server was very friendly and took great care of us. Â Owner Hank also stopped by to say hi, great guy.
Food is good, and it's a really fun place to go during the weekends whether in the summer time or Apres Ski.
Before leaving Steamboat we stopped back in for dinner and wow, were we impressed!
Not only is this a great bar but their food is delicious as well!
Our server was slammed but did hr best to keep us happy and our drinks filled.
Can't wait until our next trip so we can visit the tugboat again
Being made to feel welcome at the door by Arnold goes a long way in Colorado for a guy from Philadelphia.
The $5 cover initially disuaded me but the very large cups of beer - think Flannigan's big Green cup size - for $4.50 quickly changed my my mind.
Many of the other bars that are open near the lodges seem to have a requirement that you have on plaid shirt after 9 PM Â or you just are not in style.
This place is like Appleby's and the Titanic had a baby. The food selection is fair but the trapped in college atmosphere was what really made the place - there was a game of flip cup using about 5 tables in a row and I was invited to play on one of the teams that had 15 players each - many chains would discourage this but not The Tugboat - they kept  the beer flowing and I am sure the gave a away a few pitchers.
The live band also was pretty good - not the best musicians but got the crowd involced.
The man apeal is that this place knows how to treat customers be they local or tourists that may be shocked by a big dude like Arnold at the door.
I will go back here for sure next year
We came here for dinner on our last night in Steamboat Springs. I was looking to have something that was light and reasonably priced. Â When we arrived, the theme of our week happened again. Â We were told it would be at least a 30 min wait but it ended up being more like 5 min. We were still in the middle of ordering our drinks when they told us the table was ready.
The hostess took us to our table for two which was wedged between a table of 4 and a table of 8. We had very little room and I was wondering the entire meal when the lady's hair was going to land in my food or the man's elbow was going to knock over my drink. To make matters worse for the environment side of things, the young boys at the table next to us did not know what an inside voice was. I was constantly annoyed.
Ok, on to the food. I went out on a limb and ordered the Blck and Blue Pasta with Blackened Shrimp. I am not a huge fan of Blue Cheese but I don't hate it either. I was surprised that the taste was not overwhelming and went great with the shrimp.  My fiancé got the Rocky Mountain Trout. It came with vegetables and he chose wild rice.  The trout was very moist and much better than what I had at Mahogany Ridge the Sunday prior.  So, overall on the food, not bad!
Would we come back here during our next trip? Â I honestly cannot say for sure. Most of what turned me off was my immediate surroundings.
Tugboat is a decent restaurant that is in the same class of eateries as Applebee's and TGIFriday's . But, Tugboat is better because it's not a chain. The prices are reasonable, waitresses quick and thoughtful (and cute), and the atmosphere is very relaxed.
I ordered a bacon cheese burger with avocado and cottage cheese. My cousin ordered a cheddar burger. We had most of a order of potato skins, too. Photos of all of it are in the photos section. The food was good. My medium burger was a bit medium well. The cottage cheese had paprika on it, nice touch. But, most of all, it came with a LOT of avocado for the extra dollar and the bacon was extremely crispy and perfect. My lunch was $10.50, which is not unexpected for a resort town. That's only a buck or two more than I'd expect in San Francisco.
Tugboat is a friendly, nice place with a good vibe and good food. Definitely a chill place to relax after a day skiing.
The best and only bar near the slopes as far as I'm concerned. Awesome western bar with great atmosphere, especially if you like dead animals (mounted all over the ceiling/walls). If you come for the nightlife you will meet the bouncer who is a genuine cowboy! - WARNING - do not piss Arnie off and do not argue with him, I've learned this the hard way and since have become friends.
Fuseball, pool, video games, live music almost every night. This bar gets great musical acts that come back every year to play there. Definitely the best overally music venue in Steamboat. The bands are always great, even if you haven't heard of them. Sometimes there is a cover for the band, but usually never more than $5.
Bloody Mary DIY Bar on Sunday's! The food here is NOT bar food, it is much much better. Tap house has terrible bar food if you want it.
Plenty of flatscreen TVs to watch. Drink with the employees who are all awesome and will keep you coming back (Yes even the 'prick' bouncer).
Location is great if your close to the mountain. Â Food was good but not fantastic, more of a bar scene. Â Good bar service and they do have live music after 9:00. Â Kids are allowed until 9:00. Â Went to new years night here had some funk band which was cool except they didn't play anything recognizable until 12:00 midnight.
Review Source:The Tugboat has a great location, reasonable prices, and is pretty comfy cozy with crazy decor. Think disco ball, sports and hunting deco, an old jukebox, tons of photos of local celebs, a little stage for live music. You won't get bored for things to look at, that's for sure.
Like any restaurant located at the base of a ski slope, be prepared for a wait at the end of the day. We stopped in for a late afternoon beer and snack to stave off the hunger before a late night birthday dinner for my sister. The menu has all the typical stuff, with lots of burgers to choose from. We sampled the nachos, which I admit weren't awesome...I think even if they'd been served hot, we still would have had trouble eating the whole plate. I think if you're fresh off the slopes and starving, they'd hit the spot, but for us it didn't quite do the job. I was also served a DIY hot toddy. Now, I'm no toddy connoisseur but I don't like having to mess with squeezing honey packets into my glass. I thought honey was kind of a given? It was tasty though.
Anyhow, I do like the vibe of this bar and will probably stop in again for drinks at the end of the day. But as for the food, I think I'll probably check out some other spots.
The only thing that was more fun than riding freshhhhh powder everyday while I was in Steamboat over Christmas was enjoying adult beverages at this bar.
I had never been to Steamboat before, and sweet Jesus if I can get a job out there tomorrow, I'll see you chumps later.
The resort is awesome, not a very big terrain park but all the powder that resort had to offer made up for that.
Back to the bar, go see Bama, Tori, and the rest of the bartenders out there. Trust me if you had a long day of riding and need to chill out at bar with a local type atmosphere this is your spot. It's located about 3 blocks from the base lift very accessible (meaning your drunk ass can stumble safely from the bar to your condo so your not drinking and driving)
Also, I was fortunate enough to get to hang out with the coolest Scottish and Australian bastards I've ever met. Surprisingly this town is more culturally diverse than all of Colorado. Side note, these Scottish bastards in the pic can't ride worth a shit, but they do know a thing or two about the game of drink. Please don't try to keep up with them in a drinking contest, your ass will lose.
Tug This!
No so at first we thought this was the most random bar and we couldn't figure out why they would charge us a cover fee. Â We get in and the MTHDS were playing, they were good. Â Basically heading to the Tug Boat around 11 or midnight was the best way we could have started our crazy evening festivities that carried us into the morning. Â
My friend trekked across snow solo at 4am by herself (nuts) and we didn't even get back to our condo until 7am. Â Haha! Â Good times.
Oh so back to the Tugboat, the people behind the bars were mean. Â I never use or say the word mean but they really were. Â I think only one out of the 6 behind the bar really knew what was up.
"Glory days well they'll pass you by.....Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye....Glory days, glory days"
Ummm one of the best times that I have had since college.  Two of our friends were getting married in Steamboat and this was our destination the night before the wedding...although i remember very little of the night the pictures were proof that we were all livin the dream!!  With a  few bottle of Carlo Rossis',  some Smirnoff and three 30 packs of keystones killed- thirty of us showed up in rare form and were able to relive those glorious college days.  Man the good old days!!
Ok, so I was going to give this place 3 stars after the first night that I went here, but after the last night it gets 1 measly little star only because I can't give it 0.
And all because the bouncer is a giant prick and can't read IDs. We were with a group ranging from 22-52 yrs old. One of the young ladies, 24 yrs old, was rejected at the door for reasons that could not be explained. After backup IDs were presented the bouncer told all of us to get the hell out and refused to talk to us. Our older representative approached the bouncer a 1minute later once we had all stepped outside and the guy refused to explain anything and just told him to get out again. I assure you, everything was legit.
I hope the owner reads this and teaches his staff a little about business and ethics. (FYI - Mr Tugboat Owner - you have a freakin retard working the door).
