The service was incredibly slow, the noise level is so loud that you cannot even hear the people sitting across the table from you without yelling. The noise level is so loud it made the entire evening unpleasant. I ordered the grilled wedge salad which was very good and a chicken and brie sandwich - the sandwich was just OK it would have been better if the cheese was melted. With the slow service and the noise level it was all I could do to get out of there as fast as I could. Unfortunately, due to the slow service, noise level and higher priced food, it was not worth the money - I would not go back.
Review Source:The good: the cajun baked oysters are TO DIE FOR. And I don't even like oysters. nuff said. Also, the brussel sprouts, short ribs, baked penne, and the nutella cookies with ice cream and raspberries.
The bad: Our waitress was very sweet, but the service was slow. It seemed like she was responsible for all the tables on our half of the room, however, so I don't think it was her fault. The maître d came around several times to check on us, which was nice. Food wise, the chicken "wonton" appetizers are NOT wontons. I guess it's always a mistake to order chinese food at a french restaurant, but I'd read good things about the chicken wontons from some reviews on urbanspoon so we decided to give them a try. They basically taste exactly like the egg rolls that you get with your #9 general tsao's chicken combination dinner from your local chinese takeout joint. They were cut up and presented all fancy-like, but that doesn't change the fact that they were very average tasting spring rolls. Also, I reiterate, egg rolls =/ wontons. Restaurant owners/chefs - do your homework!
The ugly: my $30 filet mignon, which also happens to be the most expensive thing on the menu. I have never had a filet mignon as dry as this one. I asked for it cooked medium, but it was definitely well done. It was not even a little bit pink on the inside and it was very, very tough. Every bite took an excruciating amount of effort to chew and swallow. I was experiencing major jaw claudication after that and I definitely don't have temporal arteritis (med school joke). In any case, it was definitely not worth the money, and from a place this fancy, I expect a medium filet to be cooked medium and just that. Very disappointing.
I will throw in an honorary mention for the crème brûlée duo. It was cold and obviously not made fresh (probably at the beginning of the day and kept in a cooler), so it wasn't the best crème brûlée I'd ever had, but I was happy to have it all the same. Â
Bottom line: Not the best upscale restaurant in town, but decent. Obviously expensive but they do have more affordable menu options. I will probably go back on an occasion to try some of the more french items on the menu, and of course to have more oysters!
This used to be my absolute favorite restaurant in Lexington until about a month ago. I had 7 friends in town from DC, LA and Charleston. I was so excited to take them here to celebrate one of my friends recent marriage. Â The evening started off wonderful, champagne, patio seating, great ambience. Â After our food came out 2 of my friends noticed that their steaks were not medium rare, how they had ordered. Â We all looked at them and agreed they should send them back. Â About 10 minutes later that manager came out, we thought to apologize, but instead to argue with my friends about their steaks. He said he'd give them new ones but "for the sake of the chef" he wanted us to know that the steaks were properly cooked. Â We were all absolutely astounded. WHAT manager, especially in a fine dining restaurant, argues with the customer, especially when they're gonna give them new steaks anyway? Â What was the point? Â About 45 minutes later they finally got their steaks but at that point we were all pretty pissed off and annoyed. He continued to tell us that the lights on the outside patio needed to be fixed so we could have seem that the steaks were properly cooked. Â Absolutely ridiculous. Â I was highly embarassed and profusely apologized on behalf of this idiot manager. Â He needs to go back to Applebees or Dennys or wherever he came from...I think even there they know not to argue with the customer!
Review Source:Snotty hostess - demanded reservations in an almost empty restaurant, then grudgingly sat us in the bar. Â Only three other tables came in all night. Â Most of the food was okay, but don't order the steak - I don't know if they sous-vide it or what, but the texture was all wrong. Â It was pre-cooked somehow, or maybe frozen. Â The fries looked fantastic, but unfortunately were soaked in truffle oil, like it was 2003. Â And I mean soaked - drippy and inedible. Â And as usual, the waitress didn't notice or care that an entree only had one bite out of it - just asked if I wanted a box. Â Entire dinner took well over two hours, though they did apologize for the wait, blamed it on the kitchen, and offered us a free dessert. Â We turned it down. Â I won't ever go back to this place.
Too pricey for bad service and mediocre food.
Went there on  a glorious Friday evening.  The front patio is nice and our service was good.  We were there for a little celebrating, and the cocktails were delicious and the prices were very reasonable.  We ordered the crab dip for an app and it was also quite good, although the center of the dip was not quite hot, which would have made it better.  My wife got the braised short ribs which were pretty good, but my 12 oz NY strip was VERY tough.  I don't know if they serve prime meats, but i'm guessing that's a negative.  My other problem with this place is that there are no tablecloths on the tables inside.  I don't understand how a place can call itself French and not have tablecloths, especially at this price point.  Overall, not bad, and I am willing to check it out again, but will not be eating inside.
Review Source:Mediocre food, terrible services, overpriced. Â Enjoy!
Firstly, the restaurant was NOT busy when we arrived. Â We requested a table for three and were asked if we had a reservation, then invited to sit in the bar area. Â There were only two occupied tables in the dining area - and the place remained almost empty the entire time we were there. Â
Out of three meals ordered at our table, only one was edible. Â I ordered the steak, which arrived undercooked ( I asked for medium - this was purple). Â They brought it back and it was obvious that it had been microwaved, and was still not cooked correctly (still mostly purple!). Â Everything from the steak to the fries to the vegetables was covered in a sour seasoning salt that did nothing for the food - even the one edible dish on our table had this awful powder on it. Â The fish and chips tasted "off". Â My steak was taken off the bill, but no one noticed that a whole other entree had gone uneaten. Â
Have I mentioned that we had been in the place for over an hour and a half at this point? Â A manager type apologized for our delay and offered a free dessert, but we still didn't get out of there for another 45 minutes. Â Our waitress hung out at the bar chatting with other employees. Â Again, they were not busy - only about six tables total were full at this point. Â She offered a lame apology for "everything" when we finally got her attention to request the bill.
I give this restaurant another 6 months if they continue with the bad food/bad service business plan they are currently on. Â When a jewel like Suggins is right next door, who would pay three times as much, spend three times as much time, and get bad food served poorly?
Delicious French fare! My fiance had the mussels as an appetizer and although he wished there were more sauce, he devoured them quickly. He was even more amazed by the croque monseiur, which was enormous, delicious and only $10! My meal, duck au poivre, was just what I wanted, and perfectly portioned. I've never had duck before so I can't really compare it to other meals, but I cleaned my plate.
For the quality, the overall cost wasn't too bad for a French bistro - appetizer, two entrees, two alcoholic beverages for under $80. My only regret is that I was too full to try the creme brulee, but we'll definitely be back.
