I've been hearing about how great Typical Sicilian is for the past year now but somehow neglected to give it a try until now, and I can't believe I waited so long! The location is a little surprising for an upscale Italian restaurant, but don't let it deter you from giving it a try.

The food was absolutely amazing! It was on the pricier side - meals averaging about $20-$25 - but well worth the money! Very fresh, flavorful and very reasonably portioned. I went with a party of three and we all made sure to order something different so we could really get a feel for the food. I ordered the Chicken Saltimbocca and also tried the Penne Vodka and the Penne Typical; all of which were absolutely phenomenal.

As delightful as the food was, the waiter was not so much. Although my service wasn't so great and the waiter was rather rude and sarcastic, I did notice that the other waitresses there were extremely pleasant and accommodating. I will definitely be coming back again and recommending my friends and family, my only complaint being bad service, but next time I will request someone else. If you've never been what are you waiting for? Typical Sicilian is the place to be for fine Italian cuisine in Springfield!

Loud, crowded, arrogant staff and owners, contempt for their customers, up charges for everything, overpriced and undersized drinks and food that is OK but nothing you can't find at a dozen other places within a mile drive. These attributes may be typically Sicilian but they are not typically Italian!
Want linguine with your meal instead of penne? Up charge! Rice instead of potato? Up charge! Want to substitute a vegetable that is on the menu but not described as part of your dish? Up charge! Their signature dish is an Alfredo sauce with some teriyaki added? Wow! What culinary genius came up with that and when did teriyaki become a staple of Italian cooking?  Then they pour it over deep fried breaded chicken or seafood and call it their "special".
Speaking of seafood... they over spice all of it to the point you can't taste the fish buried in oregano, onions, pepper's and whatever else they overuse to overpower the flavor of the seafood. Salads are a joke and should not even be presented and the dessert menu lacks creativity and freshness. Behind the bar works one family member who should be fired for her rudeness and lack of respect for her customers and employees. She does not own the place with her siblings so she obviously does not care about maintaining customers. Based on some of the other reviews, I can see I am not the only one who has witnessed her inappropriate behavior and disrespect for their clientele. What is really sad is that the parents built this place up from nothing and handed an already established business over to the children. As is often the case, the children develop a feeling of entitlement instead of appreciation which comes across loud and clear. How Typical!!
Put this place and their attitude in a more vibrant and competitive city and they would be hard pressed to survive. The people in the Springfield area deserve more respect and appreciation then this place gives and can find it at any of the other fine Italian places within a few blocks of them. I have experienced better and so should you.

I'd made a reservation for our party of six on a recent Saturday night, and we were seated in a small private room to the left of the main dining room. It was perfect for our group.

We ordered the fried artichoke appetizer to start, and it was disappointing-- very bland, dry, and with zero artichoke taste. The accompanying sauce tasted sort of like cocktail sauce, and seemed an odd choice.

Beyond the one lackluster appetizer, however, the rest of our dinner was excellent. I ordered the Linguini Vincenzo, which was as described-- "generously garnished with mussels." It was relatively light, and tasted very fresh. My husband ordered a fairly standard but well-executed rigatoni bolognese. Regardless of what you order, you're bound to leave with copious leftovers, as the portion sizes are enormous.

Our waiter was on top of things throughout our visit, and did a terrific job. We'll be back!

I've written about this restaurant before and want to start by saying the food here is A-MAZING. I've occassionally had a dish that was a little too salty, but for the most part the menu, including desserts, is delicious and flavorful.

The first time we went they had a garlic bread as an app. special and we fell in love. I've tried to get it every time I've gone back, and it's only been on the menu a couple of times. They've also had a cheese bread that is wonderful, so that will do if the garlic bread is not available. BUT, it seems like they rarely have a bread special and there is for sure not one on the regular menu. We went for New Year's Eve and were told, "no, we usually don't have a bread to order as we serve bread with dipping oil." I would buy that if the bread they serve was exceptionally good, but it's just average white bread. An Italian restaurant needs an exceptional bread (Bona Vita in Enfield serves an awesome bread with dipping sauce along with other selections from the menu) but Typical is not serving a bread in that category. That's like a French restaurant with no wine.

I'll give back the two stars when they come to the realization that garlic bread is a staple for any good Italian restaurant. We don't mind paying for it--just make it available.

We've gotten the take out (pasta buckets) twice now and they are so amazingly delicious.  Our favorites are the penne typical and the farmers pasta (vegetarian).  I could literally lick the pasta buckets clean.  I highly recommend for take-out!!!!

I didn't know this place existed and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived during a blizzard last week.  My party of 6 had a reservation and we ended up having an entire room to ourselves.

Our waiter was nice and accommodating.  We started the meal off with some fried artichokes.  These were a little dry and we couldn't really taste the artichoke through the "fried" flavor.

All meals come with salads (although the menu says you have to ask, which isn't true since my husband asked for the salad and they made it sound like it was obvious he was getting one with his meal).  I liked that they brought out two different types of dressing on the side for the table.  Nice touch.

My Lobster and Shrimp Fra Diavlo was awesome and definitely spicier than I thought it would be.  It didn't help that I immediately accidentally ate a whole pepper as soon as I got it.  The large lobster tail and numerous shrimp were fresh and the entire dish was flavorful, but could have used a little more cheese.  My husband got a chicken dish and wasn't as impressed, so I would recommend sticking with a pasta dish.

All in all, I was really impressed with my experience here and am excited to find a nice Italian restaurant in the area.

This place is great!  The food is always great and the people that work there make sure you have a good time.  We always sit at the bar and are never disappointed.  The service is great and the food is fantastic.  You'll feel like your at home when you spend time at the Typical.

We went to Typical Sicilian for the first time tonight. Our servers were awesome, and the food absolutely incredible. The beef tenderloin had at least 4 tender pieces of beef, and my sons loved the Typical Penne, Chicken Parm, and Penne Bolognese. The appetizers we tried were the oysters and pizzata, they were both incredible. We look forward to visiting again given the wonderful food and service.

The Typical Penne is the best cream based sauce I have ever had, and I love my cheesy sauces!!! Great service and a nice atmosphere for a dinner date or small gathering of friends.

We had not been here in recent years. One of the last times we were in the restaurant about 2 years ago, there was a large, very loud party that took over the center of the restaurant. The volume was horrible, they were standing around like it was a cocktail party, and just acting like the place was empty. In spite of mentioning it to the waitress several times, nothing was done to ask this large party which was disrupting the place to quiet down. In fact she lost her patience with me and was rude. I know the volume is usually loud, but that evening was awful. We did not go back for awhile, and then we tried it again a few times with success. We went this evening, and were pleased to see some positive changes in the menu, and the food was great. That said the same exact thing happened, a very loud obnoxious table of seven adults and two children was there, and although we were seated on the oposite side of the dining room, I could hear their entire conversation, including some discussion of women's sanitary products-yes that is correct. The management needs to do something about these kind of guests.  I can not even imagine what was going on in the heads of the people sitting next to them. It was unpleasant beyond words, and sorry I expect management to do something about diners who are that disruptive. Best part-the two kids were better behaved than the adults. And no, I did not bother to complain, as I was treated pretty badly the last time.Tonight the wait staff and hostess heard what was going on, and chose to ignore it.  You could see by the looks on their faces they were very uncomfortable with this table and their very loud voices and the subject of their discussions, but nothing was done. Like I said the food was good, but it will be take out in the future. I do not mind loud, but I do mind obnoxious diners who think they are in their home and are oblivious to the volume they are using or the subject of their very loud discussion. Although food is obviously a very important part of dining out, atmosphere is important too. The fact that this has happened twice at the same restaurant, a very loud table of diners disrupting other people's meals is a red flag as far as I am concerned. I could never sit there for a meal again, not after getting this aggravated twice.

I would NEVER go back to this restaurant after being treated so poorly by the owner.  When my meal arrived, it was prepared differently than the menu stated.  It was covered in cheese although menu made no mention of it.  I found this unusual since I ordered salmon.  I sampled the dish hoping that it would still be OK, but found the cheese to be overwhelming,  When I brought this up to the waitress, she said that she would need to bring the owner over.  The woman owner was unbelievably rude!  Rather than simply correcting the problem, she emphatically stated that they put cheese on EVERY dish and this was a major inconvenience for her.  In fact, two other people at table had different fish dishes that did NOT come covered in cheese.  The four people in our party were very surprised at how hostile she was.  When my wife asked her "Isn't the customer always right?"  She replied, "Not always, and as you can see, we're doing pretty well here."  She turned her back and walked away.  When me dish finally came correctly, we had all lost our appetites and did not trust the cook or owner any longer.  We did not eat a thing.  I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THIS DUMP!

Came here on a Tuesday with a large party of 8. Food is fantastic, BUT we have never been treated so poorly by a server as we were here. Our server, Collin, ruined our dining experience. Let me preface this by saying that parties of 5 or more are automatically charged a 20% gratuity. Our waiter was rude and demeaning from the minute we sat down. He told us that he did not want to get us a second drink menu for our large table of 8.  He grunted at every request we asked for. We repeatedly asked him questions about the menu and were ignored. We asked him what his name was and he responded in disgust asking me " What is your name?". The final straw was when he brought a drink to the table and his hand literally went into a person's salad. We asked for another salad and he argued with us for 5 minutes that his fingers were not in the salad. We finally asked to speak with the Manager. The Manager came over and we explained that we don't want to deal with a jerk for a waiter...especially when we were spending $400 for the evening out. The Manager was pleasant, but didn't want to believe that the waiter was rude to us because he has worked their a long time. She agreed not to let the waiter near our table again and worked with another server to serve us. Again, the food was good, but our party was highly disappointed that we had an experience we paid $400 for ruined by this awful waiter. There are plenty of good Italian places in the area and we will never return to the Typical Sicilian again.

My boyfriend and I went here at prime time on a busy Friday night, but only had to wait about ten minutes for a table.  The atmosphere was trendy casual, and our only complaint was that it was very, very loud.  The staff was all very warm, friendly and attentive, and our waitress was BEYOND fantastic.  I don't think we ever managed two sips out of our water glasses before they were refilled.

We shared the fried oyster appetizer, which was great.  I'm a seafood nut and usually avoid dishes that over-sauce, over-bread or just generally mask the seafood, itself...so I sort of whimpered to myself when the oysters arrived swimming in creaminess; however, the first bite was so delicious that I actually stopped chewing and froze in delight.  My boyfriend and I exchanged wide-eyed "oh my god this is fabulous" pauses before resuming our chewing and proceeding to devour the whole platter.  We even joked about licking the plate.  Yeah, it was THAT good.  Happy smiles all around when I asked the waitress about the sauce and she said that it was their house "Typical" sauce, and my boyfriend's entree would have the same.

He had the penne typical with chicken, and I got the cioppino.  The sauce on his penne was a little looser than what the oysters had been in, but we loved it.  My cioppino was LOADED with seafood...I didn't count, but I wouldn't be surprised if I had a dozen each of mussels and clams.  And there were several shrimp, a few scallops, a large thick piece of white fish, and a lobster tail, all on a bed of linguine.  While the dish was wonderful for the large amount of well-cooked seafood, the broth wasn't great.  Decent, but overly salted and not particularly complex.  We were being frugal so stuck to water and took a pass on the coffee and desserts, and our bill came to $65 plus a $15 tip.

I can't close this without giving a shout out to the massive portion sizes.  By the time our entrees arrived, we were full from the oysters, bread/oil -- nice and spicy, loaded with garlic -- and salad, which came with the entrees.  We took more than half of our entrees home and they made another meal for us and then a further snack for me.

Typical Sicilian is one of the better Italian places in the Springfield area. Though the price is a little high for dinner, but lunch is still a good value. The place is not big, but I haven't had any trouble getting a table. I try to go there during off-peak hours, so I guess that helps. The Penne Typical is my favorite!

My family of four, including two teenage boys, was looking for dinner after spending a hot day at Six Flags.  We were very pleased to find Typical Sicilian. It was a higher priced restaurant than what were were originally looking for but are so glad we stayed.  The service was wonderful and the food was fabulous!

This was a horrible experience. The reviews were quite misleading. The food was not flavorful, loads of pasta and not appetizing. I asked for less cheese and they served with tons of cheese on it. And when I asked the waiter, she just shrugged off and asked me to just scrape it off! Also it is very pricy for the quality offered. Please don't eggplant Parmesan for sure. And I am never going back here.

My husband and I went for the first time last week and the food was pretty good.  The food is made fresh and takes a very long time so if your really hungry be sure to order and appetizer.

My only complaint is that they charge for seltzer and refills on soda.  Otherwise it was pretty good.

Tried to give this place a shot, even though it's in a sketchy neighborhood. I called and attempted to make dinner reservations for my wife and myself. I was told that they only accepted reservations for parties of five or more, but we could eat at the bar if a table was not available. We showed up and were informed that there was a 45 minute wait for one of the approximately 6 tables in the dining room or we could eat at the bar. There were 2 available seats at the bar so no problem. When I pulled out one of the chairs we were informed that we could not sit there as the seats were reserved. We left. If the person on the phone had told me that reservations for 2 were in fact, only available if you are a rich d-bag from Longmeadow, we could have saved ourselves a trip. It's not like there is a shortage of Italian restaurants in Springfield.

One of the best Italian foods I have eaten. The food is excellent, the service and atmosphere friendly and warm. The prices comparable. Perfect place for lunch and to meet with friends. My only reservation is the parking (very small parking area) & the location discourages me from going there in the evening but in spite of the location, I highly recommend it. You would not be disappointed!

This restaurant has the best food ever.  Penne Typical is the most amazing pasta dish I have ever had.  I have tried to re-create many of their recipes.  Never disappointed here.

The food is really good. Service great - ate there on a Friday night. The prices are high - significantly more that A Touch of Garlic located one block East of the X.  Kids pasta with meatballs was $13 and the portion size huge...they could have easily cut down the portion and price by 50%.   Good wine list but surprised that while they had some Tuscan reds, they didn't have any Valpolicella and minimal selection of wines from Sicily.  Dinner for 2 adults - and 8 yr old with 2 appetizers, wine, tip was $170. Reservations accepted only for parties with 5 or more.

When I first had gone to Typical Sicilian, prior their move, I thought it was a great restaurant.  Since their move, I've gone a total of two times, expecting the same great food.  I was disappointed with the food.  Also, the last time I'd gone with my family.  My father ordered the crab, asked the waitress the size of the crab to which she replied, "It's a good size crab" complete with a hand demo of how "large" this great crab is.  When we got our food, one I didn't particularly care for was the limited menu at the time, and I'm a healthy nut - my father received his "good-size crab" and the man was lucky to get any decent amount of meat out of that crab.  Till this day, it is a running inside joke between my fiance and I.

I went here with my sister and was incredibly impressed!  The staff was attentive without being intrusive and were more than willing to make suggestions.  The food was fantastic!  it's some of the best Sicilian dishes that I've ever eaten.

The only draw back is that there are few tables.  However, if you're looking for a cozy restaurant with amazing food, then this is the place for you.

Although we didn't see a dress code, anything from business casual to dressy would be appropriate.

UPDATE (May 09) - My sister just graduated college and the pinning ceremony for her becoming an RN was in the evening.  By the time the ceremony was over, it was late.  However, the great folk here STAYED OPEN for us!  Not only that, but they outdid themselves on the food and service.

Typical Sicilian is anything but typical. It's one of those rare restaurants where you can order ANYTHING off the menu and it will be amazing. The service is exemplary.

We had the typical calamari for an appetizer. WOW.  Perfectly fried, lightly battered calamari, with lots of veggies, hot peppers and olive oil. HUGE! Enough for three people, easily. The best I've had in months.

I had the special, lobster ravioli. I'm always hesitant to get any ravioli special, especially lobster. Keeping expectations low, if there's one solid piece of lobster in just one ravioli, I'll be satisfied. Well, huge lumps of divine meat in each ravioli was a TREAT!

My dining partner had the special pork loin. It was pounded flat, dipped in panko, topped with fresh mozz. cheese, tomatoes and onions served with roasted potatoes. Delish.

They make their own salad dressing. One is a gorgonzola vinegarette and one is a tomato vinegarette. Both are outstanding. All entrees come with a salad.

Get a cappuccino. They just got a new machine and they are doing it right! Proper foam with cinnamon sprinkled on top and a dipping cookie. The creme brulee is not what you think, but it is rich and creamy.

I had a chocolate bomba....a lot like a spumoni but without the pistachios. It's chocolate ice cream on top of a candied cherry and slivered almonds on top of vanilla ice cream. All of that is packed tightly into a ball and dipped in a luxurious dark chocolate to form a shell. YUM!

    1 appetizer, 2 salad, 2 entree, 2 cappuccino, 2 dessert came to $83.00

Non-pasta entrees come with a side of penne in marinara. You'll want a quart of this to go. It's a proper marinara, no sugar.

They only take reservations for parties of 5 or more. Average entree is $15-$20. Dessert is $6. Comfortable dining room decorated in warm colors. Friendly, attentive service, even when they got busy.

Check out the wall in the entrance! It's painted to look like a martini glass when you look at it from the dining area!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Springfield area. My favorite dish is the Penne Typical. (Typical Penne??) Anyways, it's a chicken and penne dish is a spicy teriyaki cream sauce. It's by far my favorite pasta dish of all time.

PS. I recommend a reservation, it's no secret how good this place is.
