This is more like a 3+ star place overall, but I wasn't quite impressed enough to give it four stars, even understanding that the standards are lower since we're in the suburbs in Colorado.
The restaurant is clean and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Â We were a group of seven and they were able to accommodate our myriad of requests (family style for one half of the table, no spice for some, spicy for others). On a weeknight the restaurant was not full which meant we didn't have to wait for seating.
The menu has a decent selection of Thai dishes with the odd Chinese, Vietnamese, or "Chinese" dish thrown in for reasons that are mysterious to me. In my opinion, the world will be a better place when "orange chicken" no longer appears on menus. But I digress.
I shared a chili fish dish with bell peppers and eggplant (tasty but not very spicy), a green curry with shrimp (a bit spicy), and a flat rice noodle dish (name is escaping me at the moment). The noodle dish did have some nice heat to it which was a pleasant surprise after the other dishes.
The prices were reasonable and parking plentiful. The place is a bit challenging to find since my maps app put it on the opposite side of the street from where it really is located. For your reference, it is behind the Wells Fargo bank building.
I struggled to find good Thai food in Denver for two years after I moved from Boston. I learned Denver just didn't make the cut. Then a friend who is from Thailand introduced me to Udom. Â Oh baby.
Finally good Thai food in Denver. You can ask for the spicy level you want, and you may or may not be able to handle it. Â So good I could eat there daily. Â The catfish is good, the noodle dishes are good, everything is good. I have yet to find something bad there.
So I have been looking for a Thai restaurant that can be a substitute for my beloved Chiang Mai Thai in Wichita, KS. Â Their food is the best Thai food I have ever had, absolutely delicious. Â But now that I am in Denver I don't get Chiang Mai anymore, so I have been on a mission to find a new Thai place that I can get my pad-see-ew fix. Â I have tried multiple locations around the Denver metro area and none of them have even come close...... in steps Udom Thai. Â Fiance, kids and I decide to try this place out the other night, get some food to go. Â There was only one other couple there so not always a good sign, but it was a bit later at night. Â The restaurant decor wasn't much but it was clean and it was looked much better than what Chiang Mai looked like. Â We were greeted quickly. Â The lady was very nice and waited patiently while we looked the menu over. Â Though in the end we ordered pretty much the same thing we always order, a mild chicken pad-see-ew, a medium order of chicken pad-see-ew, a medium order of combination fried rice and an order of their crab rangoons. Â This by far is the best Thai food we have found in the Denver metro area. Â It was just the right spicy but could still taste the pad-see-ew. Â It was just the noodles, broccoli, egg, and chicken - just the way it should be. Â One negative thing was that the chicken and noodles were cooked too long, so the noodles were falling apart and the chicken was just slightly tough. Â I also think the wok that they cooked it in was not quite hot enough because there should have been a carmelization of the sauce on the noodles and there wasn't. Â But overall, it was still very good and definitely the best I have had here in Denver. Â My fiance said his rice was also very good, the best one he has had so far. Â Still wasn't Chiang Mai quality but it was a good substitute. Â The crab rangoons were good, just on the small side, but still very good. Â We will definitely be visiting Udom Thai again.
Review Source:I've lived in the area and tried several of  "thai restaurants" and being that I was raised by my thai step mother, those restaurants certainly wasn't to my expectations. Before my step mom passed she had me in the kitchen with her when I was a teen. But being a teenager I never payed any attention (which I highly regret!). So when the food came out on our table it instantly took me back to the days my mom cooked! This was great thai food and they certainly didn't disappoint. The 4 years I've been here and my search food authentic thai food is over!
Review Source:This place has had so many great reviews, so I've been meaning to check it ouf for a while, but finally got around to it last night. Â This was a great idea! Â I called ahead for a take-out order, and my food was ready in less than the quoted ten minutes. Â When I arrived, the servers were very friendly and offered me water while I waited. Â Our food was packaged very well so nothing spilled on the quick drive home. Â
We had:
--green curry with chicken (medium): my husband had this and really liked it. Â I missed that it had eggplant in the description and felt bad because he isn't an eggplant fan, but he actually liked how it was cooked in this dish, and said the sauce was great.
--spicy eggplant with chicken (medium with brown rice): really yummy! Â I, on the other hand, am a huge lover of eggplant, and this eggplant was cooked perfectly. Â The sauce was nice and spicy, the chicken was good and the rest of the veggies were good too. Â I thought the sauce was a little on the thin side, but it wasn't a big deal, and it made it easy to coat the rice.
--crab rangoon: these are on the small side, but probably the best cream cheese/crab filling I've had.
Almost all of the entrees are under $10, plus, it turns out they deliver! Â (Within three miles, $20 minimum order, which would be two entrees and one appetizer.) Â I will definitely be back.
Some dishes are good, some are not. Â Pad Thai they have is the style that unfamiliar to me. Â There are 2 styles I had. Â One is brownish color which made with tamarind. Â This is the style I like. Â The other kind is what this restaurant has. Â Kind of redish, ketchup taste. Â Papaya salad and Thai fried rice were good. Â I also saw they have Mango sticky rice. Â Didn't have a chance to sample that. Â In general, I think they are a little too Americanized. Â Service and price are good too.
Review Source:What a find. Udom Thai really delivers when it comes to delicious, inexpensive Thai food.
We've been here a few times now, and have really come to like it. Noodle dishes are a perennial winner. Our favorites include paad Thai with shrimp, and drunken noodles with tofu. The masaman and red curries are also excellent.
Udom Thai doesn't have a liquor license--nothing in this shopping center does--so we use them for take out more than dine-in. However, this doesn't seem to dampen the crowds, as Friday and Saturday nights will still be packed. Service is very friendly.
Delicious Thai entrees. Their Udom Noodle bowl is amazing-- it comes with chicken or pork, but you could probably eat just the noodles in this dish and come away completely satisfied. They provide a tray of spice bowls, so you can add to your dish.
Wonderful and friendly service; very attentive to detail and a good job of describing each dish. Our waitress was absolutely adorable, too.
Very clean, tidy and stylish interior, despite the strip-mall location. Only knock on this place is that they do not currently have a liquor license. So no alcohol while you dine-in. But I had the sense that they are very much aware of this and are working on it.
Yum!! The best red curry I've had in a long time. Red curry is one of my favorite Thai dishes and my recent experiences at other area restaurants have left me incredibly disappointed--what's worse than bland red curry? Udom served up a fantastic red curry with a great mixture of sweet and spicy. I literally could have just sipped the curry sauce straight from the bowl, but I restrained myself ;) I've had the same server every time I've been and she is always friendly and attentive. The price is right and if you can make it there for lunch they have great specials. They do take-out and delivery too, but I will say that if you try to order delivery on a weekend you can expect to wait quite a while as I think they only have one driver. This is  absolutely my favorite Thai restaurant. If you've been disappointed by the curries at other restaurants, definitely give Udom a try!
Review Source:Definitely a fan! Â Located in a strip mall off University, my husband and I decided to try Udom Thai on a Friday night after searching Yelp for Thai recommendations. Â No reservations required. Â Glad we went with Udom!! Â Doesn't have that Americanized taste (not that I know what "real" Thai food tastes like) that chains have.
We went with the tofu pad see ew, chicken yellow curry, and Thai spring rolls. Â Everything was tasty! Â I've had better spring rolls before, but the dipping sauce was amazing. Â Order the coconut mango sticky rice for dessert (if it's in season)!!! Â Really hit the spot.
Service was a little slow, but I did overhear a self-proclaimed frequent customer say that it was the busiest she had ever seen it, so that might explain it. Â Whatevs... no big deal. Â We'll be back!
We've been to Thailand several times and this is the best Thai we've had in the Denver area. Â Most of the other Thai in the metro area is not even close.
Our waitress was from Thailand and very pleasant. Â There was only 2 of us, but we ordered 8 dishes so we had a ton of left overs. Â I sampled each dish and they were amazing and authentic.
My husband & I lived in Pattaya, Thailand for almost 2 years, loved every moment there. We ate at Udom Thai last night  & had the best, most authentic Thai food since leaving Thailand..
The young man that was our server, was from north eastern Thailand, and was a delight. Â He told us that Udom Thai is a family owned restaurant .Sorry that I don't have his name. He is leaving soon for a short stint working for an other Thai family/friend restaurant in Cincinnati, Oh. before returning to Boston where he hopes to settle. Â We wish him the best.
My Crab fried rice was just yummy.  My husband said that his orange chicken was also very good.  Our soup, Tom Yom  Goong (shrimp) & Tom Yom Gai (chicken) was an A+.  If you are interested in authentic, very good Thai food  I recommend Udom Thai.
The only downside for some might be that they do not serve alcoholic beverages. We found this a non-problem.
Portions were such that we finished our "take home" tonight  for dinner & they were just as tasty.
We will be returning often.
Delicious, FRESH, food! Â My husband and I stopped in here at the recommendation of a friend who was in a Landmark Education course with us on a Saturday afternoon. Â The service was very friendly -- our server let us know that (except for the apps), each dish is made to order -- so those of us who needed gulten free, or no onions, or bell peppers, or sugar, or whatever, they can accommodate it. Â The prices were extremely reasonable, service was quick, and it was a wonderful relief from all the chain restaurants in the area! Â We will DEFINITELY be back.
Review Source:Food was good, not great (remember to tell them to add a ittle spice if you still have tast buds). Â Service was questionable. Place was clean; decor was, well, once you've seen one cheap Asian diner, you've seen them all. Â
Don't get me wrong; I'd eat here again. I'll just never desire to eat here again.
Excellent Thai food! Â I make it a point to try Thai restaurants wherever I travel (no, I haven't been to Thailand - yet), and this is one of the best. Â I especially appreciated that they were able to make the dish I wanted (Sesame Chicken) gluten free - and it was delicious. Â Don't forget the mango sticky rice for dessert - again one of the best I've tried.
Review Source:Thank you, fellow Yelper's, for giving this place such high marks. Â Based on everyone's comments, I stopped by here for lunch earlier this week. Â I was not disapointed. Â The $6.95 lunch specials are great deal, and are plenty of food. Â I thought the drunken noodles were a solid and flavorful dish. Â My eggroll was a bit tough, and the cup of soup was not my cup of tea. Â
However, it was the Tom Kha Chicken soup (that I ordered separately) that really clicked for me. Â This is the coconut milk soup with keffir lime leaves, lemongrass, ginger and lots of love. Â Their's was creamy, sour, salty, and delicious. Â It is one of the better ones I have had lately, and even the "cup" size was a goodly sized portion.
After reading all of the great reviews, I had to check this place out for my thai fix. Delicious! We called in an order for pick up on Saturday night and had pad thai with chicken - medium spice, and drunken noodles with beef- spicy (yeah baby- that is me!!). Spicy is spicy! I didn't even try to conceal my whiteness on the phone- they just took me at my word that I wanted it spicy and delivered. Both dishes were great. I'd love to try the thai basil dish next time. I might mix it up and order some different meat.
We also ordered hot and sour soup and though he asked me if I wanted chinese style or thai style (I ordered chinese) it was still way different from the other hot and sour soups I've had. After looking at the menu, hot and sour isn't even on there so- I guess I give them a high 5 for even entertaining my silly order for soup. Great flavor though. They are doing something right in that kitchen! We will be back for sure.
A calm atmosphere, very friendly staff, reasonably priced, authentic, and very delicious(!!) Thai food, all combine for a lovely and relaxed dining experience.
Udom Thai is a real gem in south Denver, and I visit every time I'm in town on business. Â I enjoyed every dish that I've tasted at Udom Thai.
My favorites include: a tasty Crab fried rice, savory TomYumKung soup (with fresh, plump shrimp), Pad Thai with subtle tamarind flavoring and fresh, crunchy sprouts, Stir-fried fresh seafood with Thai chili and perfect Thai Basil, Sauteed Chinese broccoli w/crispy pork, and of course don't forget to finish up with a perfectly balanced sticky rice and mango for desert.
I eat Thai food very often, and I've visited Thailand, and I love that Udom Thai's food stays true to Thai cuisine. Â A meal at Udom Thai is like a one hour visit to Thailand (without the jet lag!!)
Give Udom Thai a try, you won't regret it.
I've had some pretty solid Thai food in the short time I've been in Denver, but Udom is certainly one of the best thus far. I've had the Pad Gra Pao w/ pork and Pad Prik Khing w/ chicken dishes, and both were very delicious. The Pad Gra Pao was definitely my favorite, as they did the garlic sauce just right and the pork was crazy tender. On the Pad Prik Khing I was a little skeptical of the carrots (not usually in this dish), but they turned out to be a nice new addition.
The one thing that stands out to me here is that they actually make spicy...well...spicy. Some other places I've been to like to make assumptions as to what I really mean by spicy, but not here. On the flip side, the one thing that bothers me about Udom is that they give a very small portion of rice to go with your huge portion of main dish. You will likely need more rice, and that'll cost you $1. Seriously? If Capital One can do "50% more cash", I wish Udom could do 50% more rice.
Definitely some good food up in here, and I look forward to trying some other dishes. Wish they would replace some of the non-Thai dishes with more Thai dishes, but oh well - seems to be a popular theme here in Denver. Service has been spot on each time. It's been pretty dead here the two times I've been, so go give them a try and some business! Perhaps for lunch, where they have a nice list of their dishes for $6.95.
WOW! Some of the best Thai food we've had! Tried the Chili Catfish after reading its' praises from other Yelper's and are we glad we did. Nicely crisped in a spicy / sweet sauce. The portion was generous and I still wanted more! The pad thai as spot on and ranks in my top two. Their curries are right on as well...a balanced combination of curry and coconut milk. Â We can't wait to go back and try all their other dishes!
Review Source:Hands-down the BEST Thai food I've ever had! Disclaimer: I've never been to Thailand. :)
Amazing Green Curry, Pad Thai, and Tom Yum soup....the freshest authentic ingredients. Family owned and the nicest staff around.
Do not pass this place up if you're a Thai food lover......you won't regret it ! Trust your fellow Yelper on this one!!! :)
**UPDATE** This place still kicks-it, but I found two other Thai restaurants worthy of a mention as well: Star Thai located just west of Wadsworth on Jewell, and their sister restaurant J's Noodles over on south federal.....OH MAN! Three amazing Thai restaurants in the southern-metro area that will have you smiling all night long! :) Enjoy!!
Stopped in for dinner tonight based on the great Yelp reviews. Â I have to agree with everyone, the food is fantastic. Â We had the Thai beef jerky, drunken chicken with beef (spicy) and green curry with chicken (Thai hot). Â
The food was well prepared and the service was incredibly attentive. Â It's not as hot as I expected, so anyone who wants to set their mouth on fire will need to let the server know. Â
The portions are a good size, so come hungry.
I would recommend this place to anyone who wants good Thai food for a reasonable price.
Best Thai food I've ever had! The food is fresh, authentic, and bursting with perfectly coordinated flavors. Ate there twice in one week and expect to be there many more times. No dish has failed to please me in this restaurant but I must highlight that the curries are exceptional- best panang I've ever had! Ing, a co-owner is very welcoming and will even teach you a few words in Thai if you so desire. Pleasant atmosphere and excellent for both dinner and lunch (prices are good!).
Review Source:Still 5 stars, but I have to write an update. I have tried almost everything on the menu so far. I've found that my favorite dish is the chili catfish. The fish is cut into small pieces, lightly battered fried and then cover with spicy stir fried of vegetable and fragrent sauce. I love everything on their top secret section so far. I hope more people try new things on the menu and don't just stick to the usual noodle dishes, which of couse are yummy, but if you are looking for something new, look no further than the top secret section!
Review Source:I just picked up Friday night dinner at Udom Thai for the first time for my wife and I. Â We discovered this place while returning from South Glen shopping center back to Highlands Ranch. Â All I can say is "WOW! Â It is the best Thai food we have eaten in Colorado!". Â Â Thai food is our favorite ethnic cuisine and we have eaten at most of the Thai restaurants in the Denver area with disappointing results. Â Udom Thai turned our opinions around! Â
My only criticism is that the portions are a little small. Â We are used to sharing dishes and these are slightly small for two. Â We tried both the Chicken Pad Thai and the Beef Pad Se Ew. Â Increase the portion size and we will be here weekly!
Finally...a good Thai restaurant...and actually run by Thai people. Â I have been to two of the other "best" (according to Westword / Denver Post) Thai restaurant and been pretty disappointed. Â One of them was owned and run by a Burmese Family and I found the other's curry to be watered down and tasteless.
Food was the best Thai that I have had in Denver and the closest that I have had to the food I had in Thailand.
Definitely save room for the sticky rice with mango and coconut milk!
Very good Thai. Â I would say the portions are a little small, but I'm a hungry American born and raised that can't control my portions when i like something. Â I liked all the dishes we ordered from here including pad kee mao, pad thai, som tum, chicken satay, and some catfish dish. Â Standard Thai menu , but they make the dishes well and they go down light and not too greasy. Â Bright and clean interior. Â Good experience.
