I've died and gone to sandwich heaven. Â While the guy on the phone took FOREVER to take my pick-up order and they take their sweet time (if you order at the counter), it's well worth the wait. Â Their sandwiches are spectacular, their soups are something I would kill a hobo for (especially the chicken dumpling), and their salads are enormous (and tasty - their small salads could feed 3 people - I can only imagine what their large salad looks like). Â Also, their shakes are some of the best around! Â If you live in the area, I'd definitely check this place out! Â I would suggest you phone your order in to save you some time, but any amount of time you would wait is well worth it!
Review Source:The management has changed over the years, the strip mall the shop is in has kind of fallen on hard times, but they still make some of the best subs you will find anywhere at Unbeatable Eatables, and believe me I've looked, in cities all around the USA. The only shops I've found to rival Unbeatables are in Philly, but that's a long way to go for a sandwich if you're in Chicago.
The staff are always friendly. The sandwiches are piled high, I mean really high with meat, cheese, and other toppings -- you'll barely be able to close your mouth around them. My favorite is The Unbeatable -- with, I think, ham, capicola, bologna, cheddar, swiss, mounds of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber slices, and topped with oil/vinegar, mayo, and Italian herbs. Delicious. A large could feed two. Not exactly cheap -- it will set you back almost $10, but worth every penny.
I haven't tried it in a long time, but they also used to have great soft-serve ice cream here.
Okay, so I did work at this place for 4 years, and most of my family has worked here for over 20 years, but I HAD to review it. Â Everyone must know how amazing this place is. Â It's slogan? "The Best Submarine You'll Eat, Ever!" And it does not dissapoint. Â The subs are a bit pricey, but well worth every penny. Â
My faves: Â 6 inch roll, oil/spices, hard salami, provolone, onions, lettuce, black olives, and a touch of celery salt. The cream of potato and cream of broccoli are to die for! The Otis Spunkmeyer cookies are amazing. Â And Ma's Homemade Chili? Unlike anything you've had before.
