Venus cafe serves delicious pizza. My mother and grandfather coached baseball for years, and one of my favorite childhood memories is when they would take us to Venus after a winning game. A beautiful summer evening full of baseball and pizza, whats not to love?! Not much has changed because I still love baseball and pizza, I'm just not sure which one I love more :-b!

The inside is dated, but that's part of the experience. The pizza never disappoints, and the service is always excellent. Ahhhh, what I wouldn't do for a slice right now!!!

(the majority of my review is based off of childhood experiences, 14 years ago and before. I have eaten here a couple of time since, and the pizza would deserve three stars)

The pizza is reeeally good, my favorite being anything double dough, but, that's about it. Expect to be ignored if it's in the least bit busy, and don't even try to buy a beer if you're from out of state. They won't even look at an out of state ID, even if you have a million other cards in your name. Overall, unless you're a regular, I wouldn't recommend coming here.. maybe worth sticking to take out!

Unique pizza toppings (pub pizza). Friendly service. Take out or bar only. It's across from the Whitman Town Hall. Food preparation times are estimates, not guarantees.

Great South Shore Bar pizza!! We stop in here every once and a while and usually end up spending a few hours at the bar, eating pizza and drinking beers while watching some horribly awesome '90s movie like "Dumb and Dumber".

This place is a hole in the wall to the T. Outside isn't much to write home about and the inside is just the same, one side is solely dedicated to just take out and the other side is split up between the bar and the dining area. The inside is straight out of the '80s, wood paneling, formica tables and bench seats. There's a few TV's around the room and as I said before, there's always something 'classic' on. I picture lots of the customers that come in are hardworking, blue collar dad's looking to sneak away from the family for a couple hours.

Back to that amazing pizza... anything that you could ever imagine putting on a pizza is available as well as other stuff like mozzarella stick, french fry, or pickle pizza. I've had plenty of bar pizza in my lifetime and Venus is definitely in the top 3. The bartenders are always quick to get you a drink. It can get busy and the pizza can take almost 45 minutes to come out but who cares? Not me, I'm too busy watching Lloyd and Harry and getting drunk on a Sunday afternoon.

i wasn't going to write a review on the Venus tonight but after reading some of the negative ones I had to try to defend these guys. The staff is awesome. The owners wives wait tables and tend bar, yes they might throw your pizza down aggressively but that's part of the fun.   The pizza is cheap and excellent, dine in is half price a couple days a week so you can literally go to the bar have a great pizza and a beer for 10$ with tip.   Yes its a dive, Yes the bathroom could be updated.  Who gives a shit? if your on here writing a bad review because you don't like the decor at the Venus in Whitman you need to get your man card checked.  Its a pizza bar in WHITMAN, you want fancy pizza go to the California pizza kitchen at the mall where you belong.

The pizza is killer, the family that owns it, genuine and hysterical...  Don't listen to the "uptighty-almighty" that says that the staff is rude.  If down to earth is rude, well then I must be the worst offender!  Bar atmosphere, hometown pizza joint.  Great to bring the kids, and again, the pizza...  It's my favorite.  We have been here the last 9 days.  I'm seriously addicted.  John (the Dad) is a great guy, and the whole family sincerely appreciates our business...  Try it, you'll love it!

We drove by here during the last snow fall and I said to L "hey isn't that the place that's supposed to have amazing bar pizza?". So in we went for lunch.
The outside was nothing to talk about. Plain, older looker. The inside was just as bad.
We sat at the bar and while the decor was old and the place looked like it may not pass a visit from the Board of Health, the bartender was extremely nice and took great care of us.
We went with the pizzas which were half off for dine in. I went with the mozzarella stick pizza (!) and L got a french fry pizza and a sausage pizza.  My pizza was the bomb. Yup I'm pulling out a 90's reference for this one. I only reserve it for special occasions. L's were not my fave but they were still good.
Is this the place to bring your family for a gathering? nope. Is this the place to go and have a beer and amazing pizza while listening to patrons talk about how their related to George Jung the main character in the movie Blow? Why yes. yes it is.

I grew up eating their pizza and always loved it until I actually ate in the place. The owners should be embarrassed by their establishment. Poke your head in the kitchen and is is disgusting. I am surprised no one ever complains that their pizza has paint chips on it from the ceiling. The bathrooms are so gross too. Everything in there has urine damage. Really how much would it cost to just clean the bathroom up so you do not get sick to your stomach when you walk in there. I swear the place has not been updated since they built it. I bet it was cleaner when it was a gas station. For the love of god these owners have absolutely no pride in their restaurant. One of the owners, the sister, is the loudest no nothing rudest restaurant owner I have ever met. I guess the saying holds true "the people that know the least know the loudest" she really should not be the first person you meet when you walk through the door. She just makes you tense. Good luck if you choose to eat here.

I can't understand why this dump is still in business???? The owners are downright rude and disrespectful. Every time they say 30 minutes for pickup just pretend they said 1 hour. Maybe they should know how long after so many years in business.
If your looking for horrible, rude and disrespectful service and greasy sloppy pizza....this is your place. Don't even bother with anything else on the menu, they won't make it anyway. if they get too busy they only make pizza.

PS the owners are the worst never mind any hired staff.
    THIS PLACE IS A DUMP!

My friends roped me into coming here a few weeks ago. The pizza was better but I still felt like I needed a shower after I left.

I'm probably going to get blasted for this review, but I really just think they're meh. I'm borderline 3 stars, but I just can't do it.

The place seems a little dumpy, plus the pizza didn't have a bunch of substance to it. Food took a long time to come out.

The buffalo chicken pizza didn't really have much chicken on it, just the sauce. Not good. The prices were also just ok for the food.

This was, again, over 6 months ago, things can change or maybe it was a bad experience.

There wasn't really anyone there, but plenty of folks at the bar.

    Not my kind of place.

for a while, the pizza went downhill so i kind of avoided it like the plague.  i dont know what was going on there. but then i decided to try my old fave again. and im glad i did. the pizza is back up to par and just as delicious as i remember. 1/2 red pepper 1/2 pickle is my jam. plus i like going in there every once in a  while to grab a drink and say hi to elaine.

Their pizza is really good and they have a wide selection of toppings. My favorite is the "Pete's Hot Special" (hot peppers, linguica and hamburg) and a cold beer. Amazing!

best bar pizza around. the main guy making the pizzas is awesome. extremely nice.  they have a ton of pizza types, and you can have a double dough pizza if thin isn't your style. the pepperoni is crispy around the edges, as it should be, and there is the perfect amount of grease - you won't need napkins to sop it up.

they also make a KILLER Cinnamon pizza. it's better than fried dough.  it is indescribable. order this as a double dough. it's amazing, especially late night.

you would never guess from the outside of this place that they have the best pizza in town, except for the constant flow of people in and out, with stacks of brown bagged pizzas.

the only thing i'd say that is keeping this place from being 5 stars is the canned mushrooms and spinach for toppings. but the bacon feta pizza is really generous with its crispy bacon and cheese. its delicious.

Great pizza, cold beer.  What more do you want from a small town pizza bar?  If you want one of the best bar pizzas around, and you don't want fancy, this is the place to go.  If seeing a Miss Pacman machine from 1982 at the bar scares you off...then stay away.
