Hello. I've been to this diner three times, and each was bad. They have managed to mess up every order I or my friends have given them. They have even messed up a BLT sandwich. They left off the bacon. My pancakes were burned, and this last time the chicken was under cooked. Â Wait staff was okay. Would not go back to.
Review Source:Came here last weekend a couple of times for brunch. Here's all you need to know:
1) If the waiter asks you for coffee, say yes. It's free and it will save you a lot of humiliation. Just trust me.
1a) There's a Starbucks nearby, but don't bother. This coffee is top notch.
2) Pancakes are delicious, but hot dogs are better. It's not on the menu, but just ask for hot dogs. They cost $7 and are delicious.
3) They DO NOT have cappuccino. For your caffeine fix, please see point 1.
Vernon Slam is the way to go. Or anything else. I dunno, I just had eggs.
I used to work here when it was the "MCAFEE" diner, and it had a different owner. I see these bad reviews and just laugh. Tony was the best, and could most definitely run a diner a lot better than these fools. I worked with Tony for years and if you look up the reviews for the double "s" diner, you will see that there are no complaints there. I went to the Vernon diner with some friends after a heavy drinking night and I really wanted to see how this place would run.
Service was terrible, waitress was rude, and forgot all about our orders, and it really wasn't even that busy. omelet was ok, but its an omelet. the potatoes were so dry. i loaded them with spk and still nothing, could not finish it. fruit cup was out of a can, and the coffee had grinds in it. I came here for dinner with my father once and the burger was terrible, as was the pot roast (which was tony's specialty).
When this guy took over the business my brother was still working as a line cook. This man fired everyone who still worked there. EVERYONE. People who had families and rent to pay, an AMAZING greek authentic chef who was one of the greatest people i have ever met, and was a line cook for many high end places. The man encouraged everyone to re-apply but didn't hire any of them back. When I went in there I mentioned I had worked there to the new owner and he just gave me this dirty snobby look... do you honestly think ill be coming back?
i give it three stars so you all know it actually was a very decent place before new ownership.
Tony would walk around and greet customers as if they were family. The place was very homey and his mother would make the best rice pudding every day to be sold in the stores. Everything was made of fresh ingredients, and I ACTUALLY enjoyed going to work every morning. Customers were part of the staff and the staff were so friendly to customers.
if you are going to creek im sorry to say that you might have to drive a bit to get some food. i know it sucks... try living in this town.
drive to sussex, or franklin and you might find something half decent. if not.. than your best bet might actually be the vernon inn....... thats another review in itself.
Feeling hypoglycemic after a long day of snowboarding at Mountain Creek, our group decided to face another adventure outside of the slopes...finding food in the vicinity. Â Noting we wanted something that was close and quick, locals having a beer or two in the parking lot mentioned the Vernon Diner right down the road. Â Away we went.
Got there and it wasn't too busy. Â Our table hadn't been set, but the waitress quickly came to bus a coffee mug that had been sitting there prior to our arrival. Â We were asked what we wanted to drink and we all agreed that some hot cocoa would hit the spot, Â While it came from a Nestle machine, it really did hit the spot.
Didn't receive menus nor utensils until after we received our drinks...our waitress actually came to take our order before realizing we had no menu to look through to make our choice. Â In her defense though, she noted that she'd been working for a while and was quite tired.
They had a variety of breakfast items, including waffles, pancakes, and eggs galore. Â My friend got one of these specials, and for the price, the portion was huge and more than filling. Â This place looks like they specialize in breakfast.
I, on the other hand, got the Vernon burger. Â I asked the waitress if it had no cheese, and she confirmed this. Â Guess what was on the burger when it arrived? Â That's right, cheese. Â Typically I like my burgers medium, and my friend noted how "red" my burger was. Â Needless to say, I didn't finish it, despite my hunger.
I will note that their fries were amazing tho! Â Perfectly crispy, not oily, and a great taste. Â Would come back just to order the fries alone, or go for a nice breakfast before hitting the slopes.
