This place is truly amazing!
Situated right along the banks of the newly-expanded River North project, where the Riverwalk extends north from downtown.
The decor is old military stuff, with two giant Howitzers sitting out front. The air conditioning is always at full blast indoors. It looks like the place used to be someone's mansion, but it has been beautifully restored. Victorian architect buffs will love this place!
The prices are cheap. The beer is ice cold. There's often live music here, especially stuff filled with accordions!
The staff is beyond friendly- they were super nice. The patrons are welcoming, and I know I'll certainly be back! This place is awesome!

This place is rad!  My BF is a VFW member and we stopped in while out on a bike ride and loved it.  It is accessible from the River Walk and you don't have to be a VFW to visit and drink there.

This was my first time at a VFW and getting to visit the oldest one in TX was pretty fantastic.  The service was friendly, the beer was cold, and other patrons were a lot of fun!  

You can rent out different portions of the old house for parties and they have live music on Friday and Saturday nights.   Might be having a party there in the future because the balcony is huge and has a really nice view of the river.
