We enjoy old Plano, and do our best to support all the businesses. This is the 3rd time we have gone to VP, because the wife likes the ambiance.
The place is attractive, and just across from our FAVORITE spot, The Filmore.  We arrived at 4:30 on a flaming hot Friday--desiring ice cold refreshments after walking around in the 100+ heat.  The first thing that hits you when entering  is "FUCK!.....WHAT...IS....THAT....SMELL???" During our time, I watched the facial expressions on just about every patron upon breaching the entrance.  Some stop dead cold.  Some look at each other and make a funny face.  I watched one guy rub his nose and face like he had a bee in his sinus.  It's moldy mildewy, funky bleachy, rancid fatty kind of a smell.  It's an old building....but this ain't right.  Not by a long shot.  It's that way EVERY time. (tell me I'm wrong)
The selection was good, and certainly not cheap- a lot of local brews and micros. Â That's cool. Â BUT THEY JUST AREN'T COLD. The beer was cool, and the glass cold....which kind made it a tough sell in the heat of summer. Â We're not in Europe...we're in triple digit Texas--I want frost...I want ice cold. Maybe the kegs are in the back--by the restrooms? Â I'm not sure what the deal is, but the brews at the Filmore are much colder. Â The icebar at Urban crust has it correct...give a damned frozen coaster please.
OUR service was fine, and the girls are nice and cute. Â We did witness a fair amount of frustrated customers, neglected and ignored. Â Plano is a high maintenance town...and we are all critics who complain, want more, etc etc yada yada. Â I appreciate being left alone (to cry in my beer) and not be coddled, but a family who is there to eat lunch would like to be acknowledged. Â Maybe they do it this way to differentiate themselves from other places....
It took us a year to come back to this place, but we missed it and I wanted to give it another try.
Went on my birthday with family. They have high chairs now!! YAY!! Sore 1 for VP!
Goods: They had High Chairs, the food was awesome, the beer selection was better than average and the prices are fair.
Bads: Service is almost extinct. 1 way overworked bartender and 8 tables made for a LONG wait to order, get food and anything else. She kept forgetting things like, "May I get some water?, Do you have salt? Napkins?" I ended up getting everything on my own. No sorries or explanation, thought it was a-okay to be extremely slow at lunch.
Recommended this place to a friend Saturday night and his words were "Good food, but they need to figure out the server issue. Very slow to a point of annoyance".
Will not recommend again, but will try the place again in the next few months, but only because the good are SO good :)
My wife and I always think about Vickery Park when we're in the area. Â We want to try some of the other restaurants around it, but we just really like the food and atmosphere here!
To be fair, we've only ever been here before like 7 on weekends. Â We come for the food and good, rotating taps, not for the nightlife, so maybe it gets gnarly after we leave.
But damn. Â That brisket sandwich. Â That house salad. Â That cheese tray. Â All great. Â Best house salad I've ever had, I would come for that. Â But then I'd also have to get that brisket sandwich with that cream sauce...it's good, man, real good.
