Had several business dinners at the Village Tavern. Â While I find nothing to jump up and down about, this is a good solid place to have a business dinner.
For example, had a business lunch there today...service was spot on...there when you need it and not there when you need to be discussing business. Â Very good job.
Food...solid, American style variety. Â I had a salad with beef tenderloin. Â Tasty, crisp, steak done exactly right...just what you would expect. Â This type of restaurant just does not get me excited...it is good and solid...as I said...but...nothing spectacular.
Will not be going back. Â Have had enjoyable experiences in the past but this Mother's Day brunch was terrible. Â They have a buffet style brunch, and almost none of the food was homemade. Â The eggs were not edible. The scrambled eggs were grey in color. There was an option to order a benedict made to order, which seemed like a safe choice. Â When this arrived I took one bite and have never tasted anything like this. Â The egg tasted so sour I was not able to even swallow the one bite. The waitress was nice enough to remove my buffet from the check since I did not eat anything. Â However, I am still shocked a restaurant like this would even put out food this horrible. Really put a damper on our Mother's Day plans.
Review Source:One of my favorite restaurants. period.
Their food is all homemade including their salad dressings and soups. Their soups are to die for.... I love their potato leek, chicken corn chowder, lobster bisque, chicken tortillia, and claim chowder... basically any of their soups with a cream base are fantastic...and their french onion is great too!.
Everything I have ever ordered from them is always great. The staff are very good and the atmosphere is relaxing. I wish they had another location closer to Johns Creek.
Oh and their dessert is fabulous. My mom ordered the carrot cake and it's huge and dense and full of chucks of walnuts, strips of carrot, etc. It's one of the best I've had.
Definitely do there!
I always get a table fast here. Â They cant seem to make a good arnold palmer, so dont ask for that. Â I love the crab dip and crab cakes with the sweet potatoe fries.
They have happy hour specials and seem to become crowded lunch and dinner.
I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to eat something good and have a few drinks.
Stopped in for a quick lunch while in training. Food was delivered quickly and was good with the small exception that the edges of my chicken were burnt...like from flare up over the fire. Other than those edges it had good flavor. I'll come back for sure. Cocktail list looked good too...too bad it was only lunchtime!!
Review Source:My experience at Village Tavern was enjoyable. The food is pretty good, the dessert is good as well. Service is usually good, but can be slow if its crowded. It is not that expensive. Most entrees are in the $20-$28 range. It is good for groups I must say. If its a romantic date, I think there are some better choices.
Review Source:I've been here 3 times. I enjoy coming back to this place because their menu has a variety of options from pasta, salads, seafood, and steak. This time i had the Cajun Seafood Fettucini. It was FABULOUS! Since i went on a Thursday, it was also $5 martinis---ANY KIND OF MARTINI!! I'm a Cosmo girl, but they have different flavors and special martinis. They apparently have drink specials every night of the week. I also like the mood in the restaurant. overall, i think this is a great place to take clients for lunch or dinner, a date, or just to grab a happy hour drink with coworkers or friends!
Review Source:Since I now work up here I ended up having to go here. And it was pretty good! I went once for lunch where I had a delightful salad which I chose from a selection of other delightful-sounding salads. I like places with many salads.
I also stopped by for happy hour once and discovered that they have $5 Grey Goose cocktails on Fridays for happy hour - yay! I tried the chicken quesadillas and they were pretty good, as well. They also have food specials for happy hour.
I am certain I will return here and I won't hate it at all.
We decided on Village Tavern before a show at the Amphitheater. Â We didn't have reservations, but the friendly host managed to squeeze us in. Â The server, Patrick, promptly greeted us and asked if we were headed to the show. Â Our hot appetizer arrived not long after ordering, but my salad took about 40 minutes. Â Then the real waiting began. Â
We were getting nervous because we didn't see any food leaving the kitchen. Â After asking Patrick, he confirmed that the kitchen was in the weeds. Â He tried to say that this is busier than normal a Sunday. Â But we knew that almost all the tables were reservations. Â After nearly an hour after ordering, I explained to the server that if the food didn't come in ten minutes, to bring the check. Â He said the kitchen manager would see what he could do.
After that point, Patrick lost his friendliness altogether, probably assuming his tip will suffer due to the wait. Â Boy, that just irks me. Â Half of us present having served tables for years, we understood. Â No asking us how we liked the food, wishing us a good night, or any mention of the extremely long wait.
The food was pretty good. Â It's hard to enjoy when you're trying to eat quickly. Â The spinach salad was nice. Â I ordered my pizza with light cheese and extra basil, which was entirely ignored. Â But it's not like I'm going to wait for them to fix it. Â My fellow diners complimented their plates as well.
What was also disappointing was the lack of managerial presence on the floor. Â In times like this, it's key to have a floor manager assuring the guests that their meals are coming, whatnot. Â We never saw a single manager the whole night.
My mother contacted their corporate office and was well received by whoever she spoke with. Â They offered her a gift card.
Brunch on Sunday was very good. My Cruz Bay Breakfast was delicious & different. Poached eggs atop black beans atop English muffins with a bit of cheese, sour cream & tomatoe. I really enjoyed every bite including the rosemary potatoes, fruit & muffin that came with it. Â My dining partner enjoyed the shrimp & grits which looked like a decent portion for brunch!
I'd go again & maybe even try it for dinner.
Tried and true this place is a an old standby for us. Food is for the most part good. I always enjoy the spinach salad and the wine list is a nice selection of moderately priced selections.
The service is always great! Wish there was an update with the menu...offer healthier choices and less fried or heavy meals.
This is my go-to place for drinks with friends. We absolutely love the half-off cocktails on Fridays or the half-off apps on Thursdays.
The reason I'm writing a review though is that I finally experienced eating in the dining room instead of the bar. Service was awesome. Our server Stephen is an expert on beer and he was great with suggestions and just beer talk.
i ordered the ahi tuna salad and it was delicious. My date ordered the chicken alfredo pasta and the order was huge enough to bring some stuff home. We also had the potato chip appetizer with barbecue sauce and that was good too. I love the crunchy potatoes. As far as cocktails go, I think my new favorite drinks is the Mandarin Fizz - it was simply yummy.
This place is solid. Great service, and great food. The only reason I don't give it a five is that it's still basic fare - no particular specialty here.
It was a surprisingly very good dinner. Â The menu appears to be too big with no specific speciality, but the food was excellent. Â
Our server Stephen was both knowledgable and His recommendations were spot on. Â I had the scallops, And they were cooked to perfection. Â The cajon seafood was very good as well.
Sorry for going in the wrong order, but the Colorado chips and Brushetta were great apps, and let's not forget the tasty martinis with blue cheese olives.
If you have the opportunity, request Stephen to be your server as his knowledge and honesty coupled with the food will keep you coming back.
Enjoy!!
Small but surprising beer list, wednesday wine specials, ok nachos.
I like the bar here. It's smallish, and they don't offer a wide variety of beers, but what they do offer is a nice mix of national standards and small-run craft brews from various locales around the country, both bottles and draught. The wednesday wine specials (50% off per glass) really packs in the 40 and 50 somethings by the horde. no elbow room.
nachos were decent. Bar and wait staff were outstanding. It's probably a 4-star in most people's heart, I just don't care for the crowd here.
It's a decent enough restaurant and bar. The atmosphere is tavern like, all wood beams and low lights. It's cozy. The food is OK, not great. But it does the job. I had the fish tacos, which were surprisingly spicy. The oysters on the oyster po boy weren't fried enough and were mushy. The spinach dip was pretty small.
The service was excellent and the food was decent. It's a good place to get a consistent meal. Judging by the size of the place, you'd probably always be able to get a table.
This was an interesting experience. We are both servers from a competing restaurant, and trying to find somewhere to eat for a nice, relaxed dinner, this is where we chose.
We were sat at a nice table, close to the kitchen. We started with cocktails, and an appetizer, and we were judgmental. Not because we are horrible people, but because we are servers, at what I would say is a nicer restaurant then here, but I wont name where. Our server was decent at best, but he is a great candidate for the NASA astronaut program. Yes, he was that spaced out at times. The cosmo my lady friend got could have been alittle better she said, but I was good with my always trusty Sapphire and Tonic. We sampled a few wines to see which one we wanted to get for dinner. He was taking his time, which wasnt a bad thing, but there were times we wondered where he was at.
We settled on dinner and wine, and from the place we work, we know how to do the whole wine bottle opening at a table. He didnt do it quite like we were expecting. Granted, I made every effort to make the lady friend the head of the table for the wine cause she knows more, he still presented the bottle to me, which was alittle different. Still, the big thing for us was when he put the bottle down, and realized he didnt have a wine opener. If that was either of us, our manager would have shot us.
The dinner was very good. I had the blackened chicken fettucini. I thought it was a great size and just tasted good. For the lady friend, she got the shrimp scampi, but subbed in chicken for the shrimp because of allergies. The problem was, there was no shrimp, but no chicken either. They were good about bringing it out, but it seemed odd that they left it off, and didnt double check it before it left the kitchen.
The desert was a Sweetwater Georgia Brown float. So unbelievably good. Capped off a great night.
The ONLY reason this review gets a single star is because the food, when they actually manage to get it done right, tastes good. But that's their biggest problem - execution.
I don't know why I've gone back there as many times as I have, I guess I'm a glutton for punishment? I keep hoping that THIS time will be the time everything works out right - that they won't bring me a pork chop when I ordered a steak, or cook the steak wrong, or only put half of the ingredients in the salad (these are only a few of the mishaps that have happened to me there). Even when I've ordered out, found it wrong and brought it back, they've still managed to screw it up - it's like they're allergic to doing things right.
Do they not train their cooks here???
I cannot fathom how they've managed to stay in business this long. Their only saving grace are the waitstaff and bartenders who are very congenial.
If they straighten up their back of house, they have the potential to be at least a four-star restaurant, if not a five-star one...but that's a pretty big if.
Village Tavern is one of my favorite restaurants. Â I've dined at this Alpharetta location four times in the past year. Â My first experience is with the location in Winston-Salem, NC. Â The menu's the same and the food is excellent. Â DH and I went three weeks ago for a date night. Â I was ready to order wine, but when our waiter informed us that all liquor was 1/2 half (not wine or beer) I was all over it! Â I ordered a mai tai and it was deelish! Â DH had a margarita and seemed to enjoy it. Â Actually, I ended up ordering two mai tai's that evening. Â We weren't in the mood for appetizers so DH ordered the teriyaki chicken (I know, not very adventurous) and I ordered the crab cakes. Â They make some of the best crabcakes I've ever had. Â It's all lump white crabmeat. Â No yucky fillers. Â My tastebuds were doing cartwheels :)
Just a note: their steak, mountain trout, and spinach salad are wonderful too!
Great food, unpretentious environment, and quality service. Â I can't wait to get back to the Village Tavern!
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed my first visit here! Â Luckily some friends suggested meeting for a late happy hour on Friday. Â The Village Tavern has a drink special almost every night. Â Friday's special is 1/2 price liquor drinks...all liquor drinks. Â And they don't skimp on the alcohol. Â Our waitress was awesome! Â She was friendly, funny, and best of all...our drinks were never empty. Â We decided to order dinner, and three of us split the blackened chicken pasta. Â It was very good. Â The sauce was creamy without being too heavy, the chicken was flavorful and tender. Â Some of the broccoli was slightly undercooked, but that's better than the alternative. Â
We will be back to try out some of their other specials as well as for another Friday "hh."
Thursday nights are the bomb dot com. Add $3 margaritas to the mix and half price appetizers (strictly the LADIES gotta be present or you don't get the half price deal) and you've got the happiest customer. EVER.
The drinks were nice and strong----not super sweet or anything. I got the margarita, but to my understanding the $3 special applies to all well drinks and wine glasses. My boyfriend doesn't care much for "deals" like I do, so he got a sweetwater 420 ($5).
We ordered the fried oysters and the nachos appetizer. The nachos were big enough to be a complete meal. Oysters were actually plentiful considering Park Tavern charges a whopping ____ for oysters during Oysterfest, so I'm not going to complain here. My friends got the thai chicken and that was tasty to me---not dry at all!
After 2 margaritas, 2 brews, and 2 appetizers, our bill was around $25. Shocked? So was I. Considering our bill should have been well over $40, I will be here. Every Thursday. Look for me in the bar.
XOOXOXO
Went here last night for my best friends mom's 50th birthday. The restaurant was beautiful and I bet in the winter time when the fireplace in the middle is on it is even more cozy.
We started with a few drinks and during the week they have some killer drink deals will have to go back on Friday when all drinks are half priced all night. We then moved on to the appetizer since we were a large party we went with the sampler. The calamari was very rubbery and the bruschetta was soggy but the crab cake was fantastic.
I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sliders. Their pulled pork was average nothing fancy here I've had better but I've also had much worse. Really nothing bad or good to day about it. However, their french fries were amazing I ended up eating the whole plate of those instead of the sliders. They were cooked almost perfectly (a few were undercooked) and the seasoning they put on them was absolutely wonderful. I even got to try one of their sweet potato fries (I am not a hug sweet potato fan) and they were even better than my fries I had fry envy after trying one. They coat them in cinnamon sugar! YUM YUM!
Dessert then came out for the birthday girl it was their brownie sundae which was sinfully delicious. Unfortunately by that point I was absolutely stuffed.
The one thing that really bugged me is we never saw our waiter. Some of the worst service ever. In the beginning we were waiting for our party to arrive and he kept asking us if we were ready and after we told him we needed some more time it was almost like we never saw him again. Will check this place out again at some point but there are so many other places I want to try before I do.
I ate here last night for my mom's birthday and it was great. First, I did see a review that said they had to ask for bread and on their menu it says "bread service available upon request" so you do have to ask if you want bread.
The martini list is great and on Wed all wine is half price. Yay! I had a glass of merlot that was really good and only $3. Our group got the appetizer sampler. For $15.95 I thought the portion was a little skimpy but everything looked really good and the presentation on the plate was great.
For dinner, I had the chicken mexican salad minus the taco shell and it was HUGE. I kept eating and the food never seemed to disappear. I also had a few of my husband's sweet potato fries. Yum! They were perfectly fried and were seasoned with cinnamon sugar. Double yum!
The dinner portions were very large. The service was good, although, I did feel a little rushed to order drinks when we first arrived but I got everything I needed when I needed it and the server ended up doing a really good job.
The desserts looked tasty and everyone raved about the brownie.
They also have a squash spaghetti that is awesome. I had that the last time I visited. The squash spaghetti is a great gluten free or vegetarian option. Having a gluten allergy, I wasn't pressed to find something on the menu I could eat. There were a lot of gluten free options on the menu. Make sure you ask because the menu doesn't have gluten free indicators.
Next time I visit I plan to go on half price app night and hang in the bar area, which appeared to be quite lively with a variety of people from all walks of life.
VT loses a star today. We sat in the worst service ever section evidently. I can't hate on the food here, because when we got it, it was exceptional (as usual).
At my regular haunts, I have favorite wait staff. Here, my ATF is Bob. He wasn't working tonight or I would have asked for him.
The server we got tonight, however, was just ridiculously bad. As slow as business was tonight, there is absolutely no excuse for how slow our waiter was. We had to repeatedly ask for drink refills. Our food was served on a continuum between lukewarm and outright cold. One entree was sent back because it was cold.
I'm not big on bashing, so I'll leave it at this: I'll never suffer THAT waiter again. I told the manager on duty that if they ever seat me in this guy's section again, I'll walk out.
I don't want to be some high maintenance PitA here - but when I spend the kind of money that I spend at this place on a regular basis - I expect reasonable service.
End of rant. I still love this place. The response by the manager was outstanding. i will most definitely be back - but my server had better be Bob or his clone.
I went here for a team dinner on business. I wasn't overly impressed. They do designate the vegetarian dishes with a 'check' mark, which is nice. Unfortunately, they didn't have a whole lot marked veggie. I settled on a app salad and the spaghetti squash and zucchini dish. The dish was really tasty and satisfying. The salad wasn't much to write home about.
I customized my order a bit and while they were happy to comply when taking the order, execution seemed a challenge for them. I asked for 2 dressings on the side and the pine nuts and parm on the side. They brought me 2 cups of the same dressing on the side and then completely forgot my nuts/parm side. I had to ask for it. Â And it took the waitress a while to come around to ask how our meal was so I could request it. Kind of disappointing.
Also, the place was really loud. Hard to hear anyone talking and it just seemed to get louder and louder over time. And to top it off, I left smelling like food - a big pet peeve of mine.
I went for lunch today at the Village Tavern. I currently work in Alpharetta, GA.
I had the chicken salad sanwich and pasta salad. Not a bad mead for under $10. I ordered it to go. The dining room at this place is nice, and it was crowded for lunnch.
I will definitely add this to my lunch locationsl
This is one of my preferred restaurants when there is a group for several reasons. Â First, there is a huge variety so everybody will find something to their liking. Â Second, it can be very reasonably or "I just got a nice commission" priced. Â Third, the service has always been great. Â My group usually likes to cut up and I enjoy a waiter who is not afraid to join in our reindeer games. Â Finally, the bar pours an honest drink.
Last time there I had the Steak and Frites. Â This was a hanger steak and fries with a port wine reduction. Â Very good and, at $14, a bargain.
Our waiter also informed me you may bring your own wine and NO CORK FEE! Â This is huge for wine lovers.
The Tavern is a cut above the usual chain restaurants. Â It can be very pricey but, if you watch the drinks and order carefully, it is VERY reasonable.
So occasionally my cravings pull me out to the suburbs to places I really like to eat. Â I worked at the Village Tavern in Charlotte and in Winston-Salem and still love the place. Â I was in the mood for variety and good portions and I knew a trip to Alpharetta and dinner at VT would satisfy that. Â
Thank to my friend Joel I didn't have to go alone!
Service was a little off the night we went, it took a little bit for our guy to realize we were at our table. Â We had the chips and crab dip for appetizers which were as great as I remember from when I worked there, then I went for the Prime Rib while Joel had the Grouper Hemingway. Â Both were great, my prime rib was cooked just the way a like it and I had a great loaded baked potato.
Due to portion size we skipped on dessert, but I would have had the Apple Cobbler if I was still hungry. Â
Wish it was closer into Atlanta and I would go more often, great place to get good food, good atmosphere - I'll go back if I'm back in Alpharetta anytime soon.
So this past weekend, my friend Brooks was craving Village Tavern. Â He use to work there back in in college when he lived in Charlotte, NC. Â When he told us that the Village Tavern was located in Alpharetta, we all gave him a look as if he was crazy. Â Everyone declined and since I knew Brooks really wanted to go, I was game to trying something new and was looking for a lil road trip!
Upon arriving, I realized we were pretty much the youngest people there. Â We decided to sit in the bar area so that we didn't have to wait. Â Brooks noticed a couple of new items on the menu and was happy to see some of his favorites on there. Â For appetizers we ordered the chips with ranch dressing and the crab dip. Â Both were awesome and the portion size were HUGE! Â For our entrees, Brooks got the prime rib with a loaded baked potato and salad and I got the grouper hemingway which was grouper on top of angel hair pasta sauteed in white wine sauce. Â Our meal was really good and at the end we were way too stuffed to even have any dessert! Â Brooks did mention that other highlights of the menu that are awesome are: Steak Au Poivre, Maple Cured Pork Chop, Grilled Meatloaf, Chicken Colorado and the BBQ Chicken Pizza.
Overall, it was a great time and our friends that wussed out definitely missed an awesome meal! Â Definitely look forward on going back to Village Tavern with Brooks in the near future! Â Which reminds me...I do need to go to the Outlet Mall soon!!!
To make a short story long, Village Tavern went from "the place I didn't want to try because I thought it was too expensive" to "our go-to place for date night." Â After prompting by some friends (their gift certificate didn't hurt!), we gave it a shot, and I was quickly disappointed we hadn't been eating here for years!
Yes, you'll find families with kids (although not many), and dudes in shorts who don't know any better (again, not many). Â But in my experience, most of the people eating at the Village Tavern are groups of adults and couples.
You'll find a pretty good range of food options and prices at the Village Tavern, from steak au poivre (good, although not great) to delicious tilapia, chicken and penne pasta (one of my wife's preferred entrees) and my favorite, the Greek flatbread pizza. Â Sure, you can spend $30-40 per person if you tack on wine, salad and a dessert. Â But if you pick the right entrees you can also keep the tab in line with something like Applebees, and with a significantly better experience.
Dining doesn't get much better in Alpharetta than the Village Tavern.
I ordered some takeout from the Village Tavern based on Andy H.'s review. Â I'm in town on business and was getting tired of the same old thing.
I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with coleslaw. Â They said it'd be 20 minutes which was accurate. I had plenty of time to get there before it was ready.
This place is right across from The Varsity, and on the way in I couldn't help but wonder if I shouldn't have ordered takeout from there.
I got to the Village Tavern at 5:30pm. Â I thought it would be pretty dead since it was right after work. Â Boy was I wrong. Â The whole place was full of corporate types still in their work suits. Â They all seemed to be in a hurry to get soused and were trying to impress one another while doing it.
I haven't heard so much shop talk since the last convention I attended. Â I would have been really out of place if I'd chosen to eat in. Â It was definitely not my crowd, but the food was really good, and the portions were quite large.
If you're not a stuffy corporate type, don't go there right after work - you won't like it.
