Tried their Prime Rib (12 ounce portion for $22.75), comes with a Mixed Green Salad and a side. This was as good as any prime rib in the area that I've tried - including Fleming's on Sundays. The meat was perfectly cooked as requested - medium rare.

Also tried their BBQ Baby Back Ribs (($18.95 for a full rack, along with FF & Cole Slaw) and they were very nice, for my tastes anyway - some spice, only a little sweetness. Their Loaded Baked Potato was awesome, as well.

And finally, the Carrot Cake here is the best I've had in a restuarant - large slice for $6.95. I don't care for everything they do here, but some of their items are great.

I look at the Village Tavern and I think to myself, "Wow, this is a really cool looking place!"  The decor is really nice, it has a beautiful outdoor seating area, and the bar is actually tolerable.

The service has always been ok, I think the servers do a job as well as you would expect.  They were always cordial, polite, and did a good job of taking care of me when I have been there.

However, the food has always left a little something to be desired.  Everything I have ordered tastes like it is over salted.  I've tried multiple items off of the menu, but nothing wows me.  I mean, the food is ok, but I'd expect much higher quality meals based off of the atmosphere and decor of this restaurant.

Village Tavern have redeemed themselves.  We decided to give them another shot, and things were *much* improved this time around.  Service was prompt and friendly, our orders were correct the first time, and everything was tasty.

Thanks for making it right, VT!  We'll be back.

My best friend and I checked this place out for dinner tonight. The food was splendid! I had the shrimp and grits while my friend had a cheese burger. We each found our meals to be delectable. The drinks were also splendid and reasonably priced. My only negative was my entree was a bit pricy compared to the rest of the menu.

The hotel and the client recommended this restaurant.  I was dining alone, so the host and hostess shuttled me off to the bar.  I was prepared for mediocre service.  Boy was I surprised!  Erika was my server and she did a great job!  I ordered the Thai Chicken skewers - they were very good, and the presentation was world class, but served on a cold salad plate on a bed of mixed greens, which chilled my grilled chicken.  I ordered the spaghetti squash and zucchini - and it was hot, fresh, healthy and delicious.  I would eat there again!

Very nice lighting and clean restaurant. There was a decent wait time considering it was valentines day. The staff is very friendly and the food is DELICIOUS!

The server was excellent and that was the only thing excellent about the restaurant. Ordered appetizer that came out right before the food order. Food was just ok, nothing  I would say worth going back for. Food also took a long time to come out. Bad night for the kitchen I guess.

The Village Tavern is more memorable for the decor than the food, but is a nice comfy place that is a bit unusual for Greensboro.

    Pros:
+ Drink selection is good, and the bar is well stocked.  Decent happy hour specials.
+ The atmosphere is a major highlight, very well laid out, comfy, welcoming interior.  The wood helps keep it warm feeling.
+ The staff is friendly, and seems quite welcoming to regulars
+ Some of the food, like the quesadilla is really good.  Packed with chicken and cheese.
+ The crowd is laid back, if a bit older

    Cons:
    - A lot of the food is just not memorable.  I've been here maybe 5 times, but I can't remember anything I ate other than the quesadilla.
    - Service is random, sometimes good, but usually slow.  Always polite, but sometimes they talk business in the front of house.  A little odd.

The Village Tavern is a little odd, because it has some good elements, but doesn't seem to actually follow all the way through.  It's really above average for Greensboro, definitely at least 3.5 stars, just not consistent enough to keep a 4 star rating.

The service is horrible!!! I typically go to the Village Tavern in Winston-Salem often & love it there, so when friends invited me for an Christmas outing at the Village Tavern in Greensboro, I though "why not?"

We'll, we were seated in the patio. We all ordered our food at 8:20. It took them 20+ minutes to bring out appetizers. At 9:00, some members of the party asked where our food was. The waiter simply offered us more bread and said, "the food is coming." At 9:15, members again questioned. We got the same response. A member of the party then asked for the manager. He seemed interested in our complaint, he left  to check on things. When he returned, he said that we had only orders 20 minutes ago!!! Others informed him that we had, in fact, ordered almost an hour ago. He basically called us liars. A lady in the group informed him that she wasn't even hungry & refused to eat the food.  A minute later the food comes out. Everyone in the party was upset about the situation, especially being called lairs. When asked for the check to pay for drinks, the manager said they'd cover the drinks & kicked us out! Then ordered the food back to the kitchen. I still wanted my food-even if to go & the only drink I ordered was water!

I won't be going back to that Village Tavern ever again!

Returned to give them another try. I didn't have the same crappy waiter as last time, though I did see him there tonight. Maybe he got his act together. I don't know.

But the experience was good this time. Food was good and plentiful. Always a healthy crowd there. By healthy, I mean in abundance, probably not so much in physical shape. So, yes, it was an abundant crowd...though that doesn't have the same positive ring to it. But anyway...

As much as I enjoy the rotating tap selections at Village Tavern, I'm constantly finding myself disappointed in the food that they serve. Particularly relative to the cost. Case in point was the Filet Mignon Salad I had last night.

The Filet Mignon Salad, simply by utilizing the phrase "filet mignon" should carry with it a degree of class/respectability. Unfortunately, this filet was nothing more than tepid sliced beef on a bed of particularly limp iceberg lettuce. Even worse was that this ersatz salad was drenched in shredded cheese and an overly large pile of salsa in the corner. No presentation. No even distribution of toppings. No discernible taste beyond the Pace Picante (or some "homemade" approximation) that leaked into every bite thanks to the sheer volume heaped upon the top.

The Village Tavern certainly has some respectable dishes and a good selection of brews, but beware the Filet Mignon salad unless you're into that sort of thing that I described above. A far safer salad choice would be the Caesar with either Salmon or Oysters on top. At least that way you are assured a leafier and better textured Romaine lettuce.

Service was terrible. It seems that our waitress needed more training. It started with her not being able to open a bottle of wine, and then almost breaking off the cork only to go back and have someone open it and then bringing the bottle back. Once dinner was finished we then got our check, and it sat on the table for 20 minutes before picking it up as she walked past it numerous times. Finally I had to mention that it was ready 20 minutes ago for pickup. With all this, you can only imagine what the tip was "0".

Well, I was dazzled by the food and the hospitality of our server Nathan, both.
I had 'Fish Tacos' lunch entree with a side 'Village Tavern Salad'. The salad was great and the Fish Tacos was excellent with plenty of fresh blackened tilapia, guacamole mix and yummy sauce. As Fish Tacos is the "In" dish now, I have eaten it at many different restaurants, but this one definitely wins GOLD MEDAL from me! (please look at my photos and click Very Helpful :))They gave me not only a lot of fish in the tacos but also black beans and rice to make it a real Mexican meal. I was really impressed because at other places, they just give you the fish tacos and nothing else. Our server Nathan was very attentive with very polite manner. I was never asked by a server if I wanted to have an ice water to go, but I was today, by Nathan here at The Village Tavern. To me, that is hospitality.

I have always loved Village Tavern. I love the charming outdoor patio equipped with large umbrellas and live music in the summertime. I love the large roaring fireplace in the lodge setting in the main dining room in the wintertime. I adore the local watering hole feel of the bar area. Their drinks are consistently wonderful and the bartenders are more than willingly to give suggestions.Their veggie burger and sweet potato fries are out of this world!

    However...

The service at the Village Tavern has been rapidly declining over the past several years. I do not know if the manager is just having a difficult time finding people or if they are just not well trained. I have had incompetent waiters (forgot to put in my order -- sat there waiting for an hour), an extremely rude hostess, waiters that will rush you through your meal and inattentive waiters (will only refill your water if you ask).

I really hope the service will improve, but in the meantime I'm just going to make the drive over to Winston to one of the two Village Taverns they have to offer. I have never had anything other than an excellent in experience at both of their locations.

I like (not love) their crab cakes that have lots if meaty texture, and the calamari is served on seaweed.
One of the few places where I don't send back salads (hate rotten lettuces). We often split a Tavern salad with its fresh mushrooms and bacon bits.

We have had fun Wednesdays here with the $5 martinis, a variety of them, and apps. Luckily, we only have a few blocks to go home!

The way some peple brag about this place, you would swear it was some sort of gourmet restaurant. Don't get me wrong, the food is decent and a few of the dishes are actually very good. The sea scallops are probably the best thing. However, the service is very inconsistent and, from my personal experience, has ranged from exceptional to barely acceptable. One time the waiter was practically falling all over us and the next time we had a very time getting our orders placed. TVT does a marginal job of managing reservations, so don't expect to arrive for your 7 PM time slot and get seated much before 7:15 - 7:30. The restaurant, itself, is located in a rather inconvenient place, so getting parked can be an issue.

I'll start with the menu. You really can't go wrong, and they have a lot to choose from. I've never had anything there that I didn't like. They have a pretty good selection of imported and domestic beers, but they're slightly expensive, i.e. $4.50 for a local brew and $5 for Guinness. My wife likes their $5 Martini specials on Saturdays. The bar is a nice place to hang out later in the evening but only if you don't plan on staying out past midnight. The servers are mostly competent, but I did have one who seemed a bit preoccupied and kept forgetting to bring things like dressing and ketchup. The dining area feels crowded, but I don't mind too much. The interior is like a rustic lodge, with a big stone fireplace in the middle of the room. It wouldn't be my first choice for a romantic date but it's a great place for groups of friends to get together.

A couple of tips from a frequent customer: Make a reservation on a Saturday night or else you'll be waiting an hour. Even with a reservation you may still have to wait 10 minutes or so. The bar gets really busy with people having drinks while they wait to be seated, so if you get a drink, pay for it as soon as you get it or else you could be stuck waiting for the bill when your buzzer goes off.

Culinary delights await.  Upon my last visit I experienced, for the 1st time, plate envy.  Ordering the special (blackened prime rib) had left me with great expectation, while the Mrs. ordered the pork chop. Upon delivery, my slab of beef was accompanied by a dollup of mashed potatoes, while the pork-chop(s) were pleasantly perched, bone up, with steamed spinach & baked apples.  I have the pleasure of having a charitable wife, who let me taste her delectable entree, while I consumed my plain old prime  rib (and the prime rib was cooked to perfection).  For dessert, the key lime pie is like no other.  It is oversized with a raspberry sauce that balances out the tartness exceptionally well.

I pretty much have to say what the majority of the reviews are saying. Its a mediocre restaurant and over priced for the quality of service.  My party was a group of 3 and 2 of the 3 plates were cold. One persons chicken was horribly dry. But at least her meal was still warm. Definitely won't be going back.

So we had a party of 4 and two of us were early. It was at the dinner rush so we waited until our entire party was there before being sat to be fair to all the others that had their entire party already there. While waiting, we were the only ones waiting, there were two hosts and one manager up front. Apparently, one of the host had a "gas" issue. It wasn't a silent issue by any means. The other host and manager just cut up and laughed about this instead of asking her to excuse herself. She kept...farting and they kept laughing. This was not a great start to a meal by any means especially at a place that this was our first time visiting.

We were sat soon after the rest of the party arrived. It took a while for our waitress to get to our table but she informed us that she had a few things to do real fast and we were okay with the wait. She was very polite and gave tons of suggestions. Being our first time at the Tavern, that was nice.

Our meals came out as we ordered them. However, my mothers meal was completely cold. We told our waitress that her meal was cold and she quickly took it to the kitchen. When it returned several minutes later her chicken was warm but her sides were still cold. We told the waitress again about the issue. My mother didn't want to send it back again because she was very hungry, our meals were getting cold, and she didn't want to send it back in fear of what may be wrong with it on it's 3rd return to the table. We watched our waitress go and talk to the manager that was about 10 feet from us. She came back and said that the manager would, "take care of it and is very sorry." He never came over to talk to us or ask any questions. He wasn't too busy because he walked by us 4 times and was even pouring drink at other tables. This isn't a good sign at all. I wasn't pleased and neither were my guests.

We assumed that by the manager saying he would, "take care of it," that he would take the food off the bill or give us one of our 2 apps for free or something. That is just what most managers would do. Nothing came off the bill. Nothing was changed. Nothing was taken care of. We didn't dispute this but we were again, not happy.

The food was decent, the prices were a bit high, and the quality of the food was decent as well. The cooks/chefs = not so good with prep or timing. The manager = worthless. Hosts = unprofessional.

The food at Village Tavern was great but the atmosphere and service were sub-par.  A small group of two other people and myself arrived on Sunday around 2:00 pm.  We had to wait for about 30 minutes to be seated because the place was slammed.  The tables and chairs are packed so tightly in the dining area that everyone around our table had to scoot in to make room for us to pull our chairs out.

Our waitress brought our drinks and some of those delicious cinnamon raisin muffins with honey butter and we really didn't see her much after that.  We waited a very long time for our food to arrive, which would have been alright had we been brought more muffins to munch on and some drink refills.  Finally, a waitress different from our own brought out our food.

I ordered the lunch size prime rib cooked medium.  It was absolutely delicious.  It was served with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. The portions were perfect...not too big nor too small.  I also tried a bite of my sister's meatloaf, which was also very tasty.

In addition to being cramped, the dining room was very loud and there was a screaming child behind us for the entirety of our meal that the staff did nothing to address.

I give the food an A+ and the service and atmosphere a C.

Perhaps next time we will try to avoid going when it is so crowded.

I really enjoyed the Village Tavern.  The bruschetta is not to be missed, if you are a fan of it in general.  I could have eaten a whole order, they were that good.  But, they are big enough to split.  I had the salmon special which was very good, and my husband had miso pork chops which were also outstanding.  The waitress highly recommended the dessert but I was too full.  All in all, I would recommend coming here for dinner if you are in the area.

Been here a number of times because people I am with want to go, but  would never go of my own choice.

Though they do have a few vegetarian options, they are the same options that I have seen a thousand times (spaghetti squash, veggie burger, margherita and spinach pizzas).  Same with the apps and salads.  This wouldn't be so bad if  a)  they were cheaper, and  b)  they tasted better.  $13.50 for a somewhat bland spaghetti squash? No thanks.  Actually  their individual pizzas aren't too bad price-wise (under$9), but they are still quite unspectacular.  On the Margherita pizza I had the last time there were three small basil leaves, not chopped up.  They were gone after 3 bites, leaving the flavor of the remaining 'za to its mediocre sauce.

I will say that service here has always been very good though, and the manager often stops by to make sure everything is OK.

Though Yelp notes that 3 stars are "A-OK", I would not call The Village Tavern A-OK.  But I hesitate at giving it a 2, because in my book, a 2 represents when something is really wrong with the place.  And this place doesn't upset me.  I could go there and have a few beers (which they have a decent selection of, and reasonable price), maybe split an app with somebody and be content.  But I would never recommend it to anybody.  Maybe 2.5 stars.  Yelp needs to get on the 10 point system  :)

This place was pretty good. My huevos rancheros were FABULOUS. The grits were unrecognizable -- and therefore nearly edible. LoL. ;)

The service was good but the food was SLOW... hence, 3 stars and no more. Perhaps it's my northern sensibilities but it seemed like we waited forever for our food. They were good about topping off the water. Coffee too -- almost too good. You know when you get that cup of coffee exactly how you like it, get up to use the restroom and come back to find a filled cup... that is no longer perfect?? Ah well.

This seems to be a good spot for brunch and I enjoyed my meal. I would consider hitting this place again.

Oh, but, if you know anything about bagels don't order one... they can't compare to NY/NJ for those.

First off - i really struggle between a 3 or 4 stars.  You will see all the good things i think about VT, but i guess a 3 star mainly due to inconsistency in service and cleanliness.  Also, the food is very good for a neighborhood style restaurant - but its not fine dining.  Now that i got that out of the way, here are my many positives:
We really like this place - its within walking distance of our house which allows us to have that extra glass of wine!  They have a awesome patio that is surrounded by mature landscaping so its not just a fenced off area in the parking lot!
The wine list has one of the largest "by the glass" selections in Gboro.  It has some very good selections and also offers values at all price ranges.
For for the food - we have had alot of the selections here (again, i really like this place but cant go with a 4!!!).
From the app's menu - we have had the Spinach Dip, Sweet Potato Fries, Thai Chicken Skewers and the Crab Dip.  All are very good and would recommend.
For the entree's - we seem to usually stick to the Colorado Chicken and Grouper Hemingway which are our ol standbys.  Tried the Pork Chops last weekend and they were really good - super large chop with an apple chutney which was very tastey.  Our son loves their pizza's which are thin crust and lots of choices for toppings.  Lastly, the crab cake sandwhich is also a very good choice (with the sweet potato fries!!!).
Again, i struggle with the number of stars.  This is a very solid place to come if its not a super crowded night (thats when the issues start as i have noticed).  But we really enjoy coming here, sitting on the patio, having wine and then ordering either light or heavy based on our moods.  Very casual and would recommend to anyone if they are looking for a casual, relaxed meal.

My favorite restaurant in Greensboro, hands down.  Even my terrible experience working as a waiter here for two months back in college doesn't tarnish my opinion.  Order the Crab Dip appetizer, the Steak au Poivre, and the Chocolate Torte for dessert.  The wait staff truly understands their wine, so throw in a bottle of the red and you're bound to have a fantastic meal.

This place has been one of Greensboro's most popular restaurants for quite some time, but I have a hate/love relationship with this place. Sometimes I've been to The Village Tavern and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, but other times I've been and thought it was just okay. My most reason visit there was in the latter category... the entire experience was just meh!

During our last visit, my partner, Vinny, and I decided on the $25 pre-fix deal. We shared the crab dip appetizer, which is one of my favorite appetizers there, and, taste-wise, it didn't disappoint. Unfortunately, by the time it reached our table, it was just barely warm. [Note that if you get the crab dip with the $25 pre-fix deal that VT is currently offering, there is a $2 up charge b/c it's not one of the featured appetizers for the pre-fix deal. Nonetheless, I was glad they were able to accommodate us w/ this change for the pre-fix.]

For our entrées, I chose VT's meatloaf, and Vinny got the flank steak. Both were disappointing in my opinion. I'm not sure if it's because we ordered from the fix-priced menu or what, but the portion sizes for these 2 items were smaller than what I've had for entrées on previous visits to this restaurant. The slice of meatloaf was very thin (and the mushroom sauce it was covered with was not very tasty), and Vinny's flank steak was served already sliced into 3 small-ish pieces. He let me taste his steak, and it tasted fine. However, it was very skimpy compared to other meals I've ordered at VT in the past.

The Village Tavern is often crowded and the patrons always seem to be enjoying their time there. This certainly gives VT a sense of spirit that you don't find at many restaurants in Greensboro, and that's one of the positive things about the VT experience. I do wish the restaurant would update it's decor, however. I'm just not a fan of the dark wood interior, which reminds makes me of a stately library you'd find in an old mansion.

An awesome value. period.  Go with a friend and grab the $25 dollar pre-fix deal.   You share an app and each get to choose an entree from a short list.  $25 bucks, thats it.

A      Hot Crab Dip.   I'm not a fan of dips but this is quite tasty.  It comes with plenty of toasty bread and enough dip to keep 2 people very busy

A     Flank Steak.   I was expecting one thin long flat cut of meat.   But what was delivered was more like a roast beef situation.   3 big juicy cuts of meat!   Awesome!  Sweet Garlic Soy Sauce, awesome.

A+     Black Beans.  On fire.    sweet, then spicy.  one of the best side of black beans I've had.  really.  I know. shocker.

    A    Fries.   These were good

B    Wines.   Great value,  big selection.  I'm not a big wine guy but my glass of Pinot Nior was ok.  You can get a glass as cheap at $5.50.  how can you beat that?

    Great place.  I'll be back.

The service was great.  Our waitress was friendly but not disruptive, she chatted but not too much, and our drinks were always full!

I remember when Village Tavern was great so I am comparing to what it once was. The decor is extremely out of date tacky and chaotic. The food is sometimes good but usually just ok. Brunch seems to be the best. I love the outdoor courtyard and the service overall is pretty good. I wish they would ban smoking in the bar area.

Oh! There's so much I want to share with you!

Service: Always outstanding. Even in a crowded bar, the bartenders seem to remain on their game. The waitstaff and host team are always extremely courteous and friendly. When you get up to go to the bathroom, your napkin will be folded next to your plate when you get back. Your drink never gets low and you're always being well taken care of.

Atmosphere: The great thing about VT is that it has a nice romantic feel, but at the same time it feels like a great place to come with a bunch of friends or your family. The patio is absolutely amazing during the summer and spring. You will not go wrong taking a date to this place!

FOOD: OH! The best part! The food at VT is spectacular! If you like steak, I HIGHLY recommend the Steak Au Poivre. It comes with two 8 or 10oz filet's on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes and that's not even the best part, it comes with a creamy cognac sauce on top! So good!
The best appetizer is by far the crab dip, it's amazing. Even though sometimes I'll find a little piece of crab shell in it, it's still awesome.
For dessert you may think that the Creme Brule sounds good, but you're totally missing out if you don't get the chocolate torte.
Though I love the food, there have been some dishes that I've tried that did not impress me, so always go for the item that sounds the most amazing to you. And you can't go wrong with their steaks.

I hope this review helped you, because it's just making me hungry.
