I have been in this place one time before and was not very impressed. They have changed owners, so I thought I'd actually sit down and eat here.
Upon arriving at 1 in the afternoon, the place was dead. I started to sit down at one table, but it was dirty, so I sat one booth farther.
The menu seemed generic for an American eatery. They have sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, and appetizers. I decided to try a BBQ cheddar burger with a side of sweet potato fries. My server came back a few minutes after putting my order in to inform they were out of sweet potato fries, as well as French fries, and my only options were coleslaw or onion rings. I asked if a side salad was an option, and she checked, and said I could get one at no extra cost.
A little while later she came and put ketchup and mustard on my table, presumably for my burger. While waiting for my food, the owner or manager came in to find out from the kitchen guys what they were missing. I guess I came in too early, they haven't replenished their supply of food yet. An order came up for my waitress, and she sat down at the bar to eat and chat with a coworker. No big deal, it's quiet, I understand. Another order came up for the guy working the register. He stood up eating over the expo window...and then moved his basket to the checkout counter and started walking around eating a chicken wing.
A young boy, who I'm assuming is the son of another server, came in and said hey to everyone. He began playing a video game in the back corner, and was cussing when he did not win. I would have pegged him at about 8.
When my burger came out, I could not find the BBQ sauce that was supposed to be "layered" on. I was told it was under the cheese. They also added mayo, which I did not ask for. The salad was large, but had chopped up American cheese on it instead of shredded cheese. I had to stop eating the salad when I made that realization.
My burger was good, but was not cooked medium-well as I asked. It lacked any flavor other than BBQ sauce. The bread was fresh, and the bacon crispy. That's about all it had going for it. Prior to my finishing eating, my server had already asked me if I was ready for my check. After pushing the rest of my order away to indicate I was done eating, she still did not come right away to get my dishes and ask if I wanted my check. She had no problem reaching in front of me while I was eating to pick up my used napkins. What gives?
Upon leaving, I went straight to the restaurant I work at to get sweet potato fries. I will not be returning to Mugg's.
Maybe if you advertise "the best food in town," you should be able to follow through with it!
