The Village Tavern

I've only been to Long Grove about 3 or 4 times and this was our first visit to The Village Tavern. It was during the Strawberry Festival, so it was busy and filled to the brim with sweaty, crabby children. Bummer. I wish I could have come here for the first time under different circumstances, but I digress. We were seated in the dining room and after reading other reviews here, I wish we could have been in the bar area. It was a little gloomy in the dining room. Our server was great, and our food was good. I had a BLT and my mom had the cod sandwich. Tasty. I really liked the history of the place. Now I just gotta get back there some nice, quiet, cool weekend.

I have lived in the area for 2yrs and went to The Village Tavern for the first time for lunch.  Cozy place with pretty good food.  I ended up talking to the owner and his wife over lunch and they are very nice people.  I will definitely be going back.  A great watering hole!

Not going back! No one was waiting and there were half a dozen empty tables, but the hostess said that the only table for 2 available was between a loud, loud family group and the stage.  We should have left then.

The piano player had not arrived, and the family had ordered dessert. We had hope for a quiet dinner. Silly us!

Our food arrived, followed by the piano player (yes, the annoying one.). The family behind us sent the kids running to and from the stage. Then the mom decided to dance right next to me. Lots of bad junk in that trunk.

Spent the rest of our time in purgatory  looking longingly at the two empty two-tops far from the pianist and the family from he**.

Fish fry was passable, and our waitress tried hard, but it was a horrible experience. The carpet.crunched underfoot, and the whole place looked like the last good cleaning was done a decade ago. Did not consider using the restroom.

Why not speak to the manager? That would require that a manager actually be there.
