Long Grove Cafe

The food here is pretty good.  The service is just OK.  Came here for brunch recently around 10:30 on a Sunday.  We were told they were only serving breakfast and that lunch didn't start until 11:00.  We asked to sit outside and were told they only serve lunch outside - again, not until 11:00.  Our food seemed like it took a long time to come out.  The portions were good and the prices were decent.  $16 for two breakfasts which included a very large omelet. It doesn't seem like there are a lot of choices for restaurants in Long Grove, so I'm sure I'll be back at some point.

We went there yesterday during the Strawberry Fest mainly to cool off and eat.  Sat within 10 minutes.  The waitress seemed not too happy being there and was not too friendly.  We ordered the patty melt and a burger.  I was shocked when it came.  The burger was a frozen patty that didnt even taste like meat and was dry and overcooked.    We couldnt even eat it.  It took a while for the waitress to come as ask how everything was and offered to bring something else but at that point all I wanted to do was leave.  I was so turned off.  I did ask to speak to the manager who came to the table and said that the burger was there best seller.  For the price of $10 it should be a freshly made burger cooked correctly.  The manager asked how I asked for it prepared as to say that was the reason it was so awful.   I ordered it medium and it was hard as a rock!  She did take it off the bill but that was not the point.  They should cook freshly prepared food not frozen at that price point.  Too bad we won't be back.

Ate here for the first time with a friend while walking around Long Grove shops. What a comfortable and nicely decorated restaurant. Service was good but seemed stressed. It was lunch time on a Friday and they were very busy. I ordered the spinach pie which is the house specialty. They allowed me to substitute the potatoes for veggies which I was glad since not all places will do this. It was delicious and I would love the spinach pie recipe. My friend had a salad which was also good. We requested and received a window table that was available so we could watch the ducks in the pond. Would of loved to sit outside but they had vines covering the view of the pond. Will return when in the area.
