The food here is pretty good. Â The service is just OK. Â Came here for brunch recently around 10:30 on a Sunday. Â We were told they were only serving breakfast and that lunch didn't start until 11:00. Â We asked to sit outside and were told they only serve lunch outside - again, not until 11:00. Â Our food seemed like it took a long time to come out. Â The portions were good and the prices were decent. Â $16 for two breakfasts which included a very large omelet. It doesn't seem like there are a lot of choices for restaurants in Long Grove, so I'm sure I'll be back at some point.
Review Source:We went there yesterday during the Strawberry Fest mainly to cool off and eat. Â Sat within 10 minutes. Â The waitress seemed not too happy being there and was not too friendly. Â We ordered the patty melt and a burger. Â I was shocked when it came. Â The burger was a frozen patty that didnt even taste like meat and was dry and overcooked. Â Â We couldnt even eat it. Â It took a while for the waitress to come as ask how everything was and offered to bring something else but at that point all I wanted to do was leave. Â I was so turned off. Â I did ask to speak to the manager who came to the table and said that the burger was there best seller. Â For the price of $10 it should be a freshly made burger cooked correctly. Â The manager asked how I asked for it prepared as to say that was the reason it was so awful. Â I ordered it medium and it was hard as a rock! Â She did take it off the bill but that was not the point. Â They should cook freshly prepared food not frozen at that price point. Â Too bad we won't be back.
Review Source:Ate here for the first time with a friend while walking around Long Grove shops. What a comfortable and nicely decorated restaurant. Service was good but seemed stressed. It was lunch time on a Friday and they were very busy. I ordered the spinach pie which is the house specialty. They allowed me to substitute the potatoes for veggies which I was glad since not all places will do this. It was delicious and I would love the spinach pie recipe. My friend had a salad which was also good. We requested and received a window table that was available so we could watch the ducks in the pond. Would of loved to sit outside but they had vines covering the view of the pond. Will return when in the area.
Review Source:This place is seriously so gross it deserves 0 stars. The one star is for the lovely ambiance in the summer (the pond and trees and ducks). Cuteness.
Food. BADNESS. Jack of all trades, master of none. Greek? American? Not sure what they are trying to do. All I know is we took Pepto Bismol before we even left the place and waited for the worst (we were ok, luckily). Won't be back here again.
Stopped in here on a Groupon. Â The last time I was here was several years ago under a different owner and name.
What a pleasant surprise right in my backyard.
I had the Moussaka and it was probably the best I have ever had. Â It was served with either soup or salad and the Greek Soup was fantastic. Â I could go back just for that.
It was a Thursday and they had a special of ribs for $10. Â It was Ala Carte, but that being said my guest had it with a side and it was still under $15. Â Dare you to find that anywhere else.
Our server was wonderful, prompt and attentive. Â The view of the pond with the swans and beautiful, peaceful quiet of a neighborhood was an added extra.
I (by coincidence) was invited back there for their all you can eat fish fry on Friday.
Again not a flaw! Â I guess if I could pick one thing--it was that they served it with clam chowder instead of the wonderful Greek Soup I had the night before. Â It is served with fried Cod! Â Crispy, not greasy and hot, with crispy (not frozen) fries and homemade slaw. Â
I am so happy to have such a great place nearby. Â check it out!!
Went to this Cafe during Long Grove Chocolate Fest. Â 11:30 there were two tables filled in the complete restaurant. Â Total of 4 people. Â It took ten minutes for a waiter to come and we had to ask for one. Â Food was poor. Â Burger well done when ordered medium. Diet cola strange after taste. Â Not once did our waiter check on us to see if we needed anything. Â When we were finished we had to ask for the check. Â Ambiance only goes so far....poor meal and service was not worth view of pond or ducks.
Will never be back.
I've been here a couple of times, and it's a nice, casual restaurant. The ambiance is comforting and casual, I'm not quite sure how to explain it. It's "homey". Â They've got a nice little feature pond that is always filled with ducks & geese. In the winter, it's nice to get a table next to the windows and watch outside. In the summer, it's nice to sit out on the patio.
Food has always been good. Service has always been great, and they're all very friendly!
I would recommend this place if you're in Long Grove. Good for just drinks and appetizers, or for a full meal.
The fact of the matter is that I am sure the folks who have given four stars or better for this place have gone here on a good day. Â This restaurant is pretty hit or miss, and there are times it is decent with many times with it not being so good. Â I generally go to a place more than once to figure out how it is like before uploading a review on here to be fair to the business. Â When it is all said and done the folks who have given the one and two star reviews are much closer to how this place really is as opposed to those giving a lot of stars.
Especially with the economy being as tough as it is every dollar counts, and it is simply not worth paying pretty high prices for what is fundamentally what one can get at a diner in Lake Zurich, Buffalo Grove, or Arlington Heights at this place. Â Granted, the view from this restaurant is stunning especially with the pond that runs next to and under the restaurant. Â During summer being out on the deck is quite nice, and this restaurant does sit in a very good natural setting. Â However, folks do not go to restaurants just for a nice setting because when it is all said and done service and food are what counts.
I agree with Michelle V.'s review in totality because that is exactly what had happened to me. Â When I went into the restaurant it took a while for me to be acknowledged, and it took even longer for anyone to take my order. Â Getting things such as drinks and the actual food was a lost cause here, and it seemed like the server had other priorites than taking care of patrons. Â I really felt like I was bothering the staff here just to get the basics be it clean silverware, refill on drinks, and even to get directed to the washroom. Â The service here is slow, and this is not a place to go if one is in a hurry.
The food here is all right, but again, what one gets here is basically diner food with a premium price. Â This is a high rent district, and the food prices reflect that fact. Â I cannot say that the food is bad, but the food is very average with nothing above and beyond the diners in the area. Â There is not a lot of selection on the menu, and the prices of things are on the high side. Â My viewpoint is going to a diner in one the neighbouring towns is the way to go because one is getting the same food over there at a much lower price.
In short, I would not recommend this place simply for the bad service. Â I do not think folks should be treated the way I was because we are paying for a service. Â With there being a lot of better options out there it is best to exercise those choices rather than coming here.
After spending the morning in Long Grove for a photo shoot we decided this would be a good place to grab lunch. We were seated in the back corner after some hearty debate about what table to seat us at. (There were 4 of us, one toddler, three adults so I'm not sure why the debate.) Our service was awful. We ordered two iced teas, a beer and a kids drink. The beer came first, the teas came a good 10 minutes later. She put the soup in for our order and then waited another 15 minutes to put the rest of our food in. Apparently a toddler should wait that long? After that she was never seen again, apparently too busy to stop back at our table or even look our way in case we needed something.
When it came time for the bill she plopped it down and turned around. We never got asked or offered refills for our iced tea so my friend mentioned this to our server. Her response? "It's busy, it's lunchtime. Did you want more?" Ummmm. what?! You pretty much just gave us a hearty "f you" with that reply. Yeah we wanted more, 30 minutes ago. Not now, we're done. As we were leaving she didn't say goodbye or thank us, she was too busy apologizing to her other tables for taking so long and offering them free dessert.
Horrendous. Not worth it one bit.
I absolutely loved this place. Â The gorgeous view of the huge pond, complete with fountain is soothing and set the mood. We sat in the outdoor dining area, which is shaded...nice. Â The food was excellent. Â I had the Grecian chicken with potatoes and really enjoyed it. Â My friend had the blue cheese stuffed burger and she was elated. Â The service was outstanding. The prices are very reasonable and the neighborhood could not be more charming. Â After your lunch you can meander through the streets of downtown Long Grove and explore all the delightful boutiques & shops. I'm going back...maybe today : ))
Review Source:I came here after going to Wine Splash because we needed a little something to soak up the wine we had consumed. Â We ordered a bunch of snacky items and ... big shock... more wine! Â We started off with some bread and oil and I was super excited to see the oil was from Olive Tap across the street.
To start off we ordered the Saganaki and it was lit table side... our waitress actually had some trouble getting the fire to go out. Â We also ordered the Grilled Kalamari which was a special. Â This was the reason I took a star off. Â The dish was just bitter. Â I am not sure if they put too many capers or what... it just was not enjoyable.
Since we ordered two appetizers, we split an entree that was a Greek Combination plate. Â It came with a soup (the Greek lemon chicken rice soup that I love). Â The soup was awesome and a huge portion. Â By the time the entree was brought out, we were pretty full already. Â My favorite on the dish was the gyro meat... but I am simple like that when it comes to Greek food.
It was a nice dining experience and I want to come back and sit on the patio next time!
We came on a Thursday night, it was not overly crowded, still some tables available.  We did not encounter the service issues that others have encountered.  At least 2 waitstaff stopped by to see if we were ok as well as the bus  staff.  Our waiter was very sweet and super friendly to my kids (shout out to shea).
The outdoor seating was the big plus. Â Nice breeze, water features, geese. It was pleasant. Â I do agree the decor needs a lift. Â
The food was ok. Â I had a chopped salad and my husband had the tilipia. Salad was solid, tilipia bland. Â The girls had a pizza and grilled cheese. Â Both were sizable and good for them. Â We got one bad batch of apple juice for the girls, seems someone watered it down waaaaaaay too much. Â But when a new juice was opened it was fine.
I came here during the Strawberry Festival and it was extremely hectic, so Im assuming on a "normal" day, the service is much better! Â
When my friend and I arrived at Long Grove Cafe, we asked the wait staff outside who do we see to be seated. Â They told us to go inside to ask for a table outside...so we did. Â We were then told to go OUTSIDE to ask for a table outside. Â No one knew what was going on, but finally we found the "man in charge" outside and were giving a very nice table. Â
Our waitress was good and on top of things. Â My friend and I ordered a salad, that came with a salad dressing (according to the menu), but when it arrived there was no salad dressing on it or on the side. Â I asked the waitress about the salad dressing, and she told me that particular salad (the Harvest salad) does not come with dressing (really? what salad doesnt come with a dressing?!!??!?!). Â So she went back and brought us back a raspberry vinagrette. Â The salad was very delish with grapes, cranberries, pears, apples, lettuce and walnuts! Â Very tastey! Â Im sure it would have been even better with the salad dressing it was SUPPOSED to come with!
Overall, beautiful view, the bread was yummy as well. Â The service was good, even though they were very busy due to the Strawberry festival. Â I would definately love to check it out again, especially for the outdoor seating. Â It was right over the pond and very peaceful!
I think the trick here is to come a little early or maybe better LATE so you CAN enjoy the peaceful setting, pond and pond critters. The food is good enough, often very good, but all that drops the busier they get like many places.
The $10 strip steak on Tuesdays is just fantastic, ala carte of course. There is a $10 rib barbq special on Thursdays I haven't had, less a fan of burnt sugar on meat. BIG fresh salads, the Greek salad is exactly what a Greek salad is supposed to be including anchovies, peppercinos and big hunks of overlysalty feta, yummy.
Decent selection of by the glass wines, probably more of a beer crowd.
Can be very LOUD and the tables are pretty close so decide in advance if you are going to school your neighbor trash mouthing the president's birthplace with the mouth they don't take to church, but of course that is why they go to church.
Better to remember Elizabeth Shue's line to a bloodied Nicholas Cage in "Leaving Las Vegas", "did you say something stupid to somebody stupid"? No loud Salvatore' we decided not to, and left you and your loud family just like we found you.
I came here with few a weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised with the Long Grove Cafe. They have really nice outdoor seating next to a little stream with makes for a relaxed and enjoyable al fresco atmosphere.
We shared the saganaki which was a fantastic way to start the meal. It was absolutely delicious and we all loved this appetizer. It was a disappointing though that it didn't come flaming to our table nor was it flamed tableside as the menu indicated it would be. Wah wah. The fettuccine alfredo was a solid dish here and I thought the sauce was perfectly flavored - my friend on the other hand did not like her pasta dish.
All in all, a pleasant meal was had at the Long Grove Cafe and I wouldn't hesitate to dine here again.
Really a nice place in Long Grove's downtown. My wife and I both loved the quaint and historical shops in Long Grove. We had a great experience eating here, and will definitely want to come back and sit outside. Even in the indoor seating area, the view is pretty great. The one thing we didn't care for inside was the lack of music. It may not seem like a big deal, but after a while, it's hard not to notice how quiet it is inside.
The food was fairly priced, and pretty good. We both had the fish, but I got the baked french onion soup instead of the salad, and that soup was great.
Afterward, we tried walking around to some of the nearby shops, but almost all of them were closed for the day, so we definitely want to come back during the daytime, so we can eat and then check out some of the downtown shops.
The long grove cafe stood out on the website and after visiting here, it does stand out from 90% of restaurants Ive been too.
Upon arrival you see a little lake with a large fountain to the left, then you have the restaurant itself, then to the right is a large mill wheel. Theres a shop connected to the restaurant. There is a bridge deck that connects the park lot to the restaurant and under the deck path to the restaurant is a little stream which I think is visually appealing. To the left of the door before you go in is a large eating area with tables and there is a large roof over the entire eating area so you are guaranteed to be safe from sun and rain. After entering we were greeted by the manager and then seated by the host. We got a nice seating area near the back by the windows and bathroom. It is a very nice view of the lake and of course the always mentioned ducks that walk around and play and eat. You can feed them yourself as well for 25 cents, theres a quarter machine to get a little handful of corn to feed them. Also the view out the window includes some statues and nice pine and oak trees and lush rich green grass.
Once we sat down the waiter greeted us and poured us ice water like most sit down places do. Then he gave us our menus. One menu has the food/desserts/drinks and the other menu is a complete list of their wines. They do have authentic but pricey wine. The waiter gave us a sufficient amount of time to look over the menu, he did not come and take out order while in the middle of the menu and we hadn't decided, like many places do that. Also while reading over the menu, another server came and brought over some warm bread and butter and a wooden plate. 2 forks and 2 knives are provided to each person already laid out at the table for you when you first sit. There is also parmesan cheese, pepper, salt and of course long groves own delicious olive oil in a bottle with a fancy spout at the table. Then our drink order was taken, me and my friend decided to get coca cola. The waiter said the restaurant only carries coke products not pepsi or other coke knock offs. They do have sprite, root beer etc.
We then ordered. For an appetizer I got Saganaki. That is Greek cheese that is flame cooked right at your table. Next I ordered a spinach pie meal which comes with 2 large potato wedges. My friend ordered the Gyros meal. That comes with of course the large gyro and a large serving of fries with a lot of onion and a lot of that gyro sauce. Def worth your money. Also, both meals came with soup. There were 2 choices of soup. We got the french onion broth soup that came with a large piece of bread covered in cheese. The bread was in the actual soup so it was good to slurp some soup and cut out pieces of the bread cheese in the soup. We were in the middle of eating our soup when the waiter came with the plate of cheese, then poured a shot of brandy over it, then lit it with a lighter. You shout "opa!" and then the waiter puts out the fire by squeezing lemon juice over it. You dont have to shout haha. Also a little piece of history, Saganaki was born in Chicago's greektown. ;) He wanted to take our bowl of soup but we weren't even done eating it. I like to finish my meals. IDK about you all but thats me. ;) I had to down the soup to enjoy the Saganaki. It is so good so worth it. It is $7 for the Saganaki, I am 100% sure.
We ordered another little plate of the warm bread because it is very good. My friend wasn't even done finishing her soup and our meals came fast. Ive almost rarely never finished an appetizer before the main course came. I was glad, more food but at the same time with the appetizer, soup, bread and main course at the table it was starting to get  crowded. Luckily one server came and took some plates away. The potato wedges are soooo good. IDK what sauce they use but it definitely gave them a kick! Ive never tasted anything like it before so good almost like heaven in your mouth haha. The spinich pie is a rectangular crust stuffed with spinach and cheeses like Feta. My friends gyros plate was typical, gyro, fries, gyro sauce, tomato and lettuce. I honestly had to force myself to eat the last few bites...it was a lot of food. I love any place that gets me full in one course!! They also did a great job refilling our drinks before we got to the bottom. They always ask you for a refill politely. I hate seeing my drink cup empty. After that our waiter came and asked us is we wanted dessert but we were both super stuffed. My friend ended up taking the gyros meal in a box. We then were thanked by the manager with a smile and left. :)
This place is very good in all aspects: Kind waiter, came at appropriate times, always got a refill quick, food came a bit quick which was my only minor complaint, great view of the lake, great atmosphere and feel, not too pricey at all and of course great tasting food!!! I won't forget it and will definitely be back soon!!
My family and I went to Long Grove Cafe for dinner on Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised. We had the grilled calamari for appetizer which was excellent.
Our meals included a chicken kebab, a grilled red snapper and my son had the linquine and shrimp marinara. Our meals were served in a timely fashion cooked to everyone's satisfaction. Our waitress was very attentive without being disruptive.
We will definitely go back very soon. I highly recommend Long Grove Cafe for a relaxed dinner in a warm environment.
We like this place BUT...every now and then, the food is just AWFUL! We took our out-of-down visitors there last year and the pork medallions were terrible---dry as a desert. They were like hockey pucks. Tasteless. For Valentine's Day, we went there and got the special $10 New York strip steaks. OMG. Q: What is drier than a desert? A: The $10 New York strip steaks at LGC. Low quality and extremely tough. We both ordered them, and they were both the same low quality. We had to ask for steak sauce to get them down. My daughter's pasta dish was delicious and so were the fries, tortilla soup, and the saganaki. I've had the roasted chicken before and  it was awesome, so I will stick to that from now on. I do like the atmosphere there; it is homey and friendly and I love the ducks (the live ones). Please get a new meat supplier, LGC.
Review Source:Have you ever seen a wild African goose?
Neither had we...until an early dinner at Long Grove Cafe. Sitting outside on a late summer day overlooking a pond, observing fearless children interacting with the ducks and the geese... we suddenly saw a flock of these large grey geese with orange features and a black knob on top of their heads. Amazing grandiose creatures....very distracting when you're trying to consume another unusual dish: shrimp saganaki. Surprisingly good! Grilled octopus was also yummy.
Drinks were good, but too strong (in an overpowering their flavor sort of way)... but nothing an African wild goose chase won't make up for!
If you are anything like my husband and I, you have that "favorite" place to go to for lunch/dinner when you don't want to dress up and just want a tasty meal and not have to clean up afterward. Well, our favorite restaurant had closed recently and we had to find a new "favorite" place to use as our go to restaurant. We have eaten at Long Grove Cafe before but on a recent visit I thought while eating lunch on their patio (which is really pretty, it over looks a duck pond) "This is a really nice place. And they have great food!"
If you have never been to Long Grove, it is worth the drive for a day trip. The town is very quaint and has lots of shops to browse in. The stores are on the pricey side but if that's not your thing every month in the summer there is some kind of festival going on in town.
Every time I have eaten here I've been seated quickly, the food is consistently good, and the staff is enthusiastic and friendly. They also do monthly cooking classes. I haven't taken one yet but the prices are really cheap!
So, if you are up in Long Grove and want a good meal in a quaint setting you can't go wrong here.
Over the years I've been here a handful of times. Â While I still hold it close to my heart and affectionately call it "The Duck Place," something is seriously up with the way that it's managed. Â My review is an average of past experiences and my most recent one.
Great outdoor seating. Â Can make for a lovely lunch in Long Grove. Â The ducks are sooo charming. Â The servers are friendly.
That said, their hours are totally whack, they're consistently out of tons of stuff, the food is (for the most part) just ok and it's rather overpriced.
This place has:
1) very nice views
2) very good french fries
That's about it.
SERVICE - SUPER SLOW!  Our family (6 people) came on a Sunday afternoon (2pm) for a late lunch.  It took them 25-30 mins to seat us....which was fine.  We were willing to wait knowing it was a weekend and there were lots of people there.  By  2:30pm-ish, people from lunch started leaving so we figured service would be a bit faster.  NOT!  Our waitress was really nice.  Nothing against her.  She told us the kitchen was backed up.  Fine. We appreciated her telling us about the wait.  We got our food and finished it.  Our empty plates sat on our table for a long time.  We got tired of waiting that we went up to the counter and paid there instead of waiting for our waitress.
NEVER AGAIN!
TO THE MANAGEMENT TEAM: Â
Just a suggestion: If it's a weekend, perhaps it would help if you increased the number of servers and cook staff? Â I'm just sayin'. Â Thanks!
Do you like to have ducks and exotic geese stare at you, or even have a duck follow you around? The best thing about this place is the setting on a pond, and the rustic layout and architecture and surrounding woods. I stopped here with a client for a Tuesday lunch and found it to be a nice surprise, here in "downtown" Long Grove.
As you may know, Long Grove is one those quaint little Norman Rockwell-esque foofy towns with way too many artisan soap and and candle and candy shops, and a lot of blue and white hair. Nice spot to hang out with your female relatives for an afternoon outing, though. I have a history with my older sister here.
Back to the restaurant- the menu is a nice selection of Greek-American choices: burgers, sandwiches, salads quesadillas, and a list of perhaps a dozen specials, including a very reasonably-priced prime rib lunch for $10.95. They have a Tuesday "steak cookout" special ($10.00) along with other during-the-week evening specials, which may be worth checking out.
I opted for a Greek Gyros sandwich and my companion for a bleu cheeseburger. The burger was over-done, but otherwise acceptable. The gyros was alright, too. Service was very friendly but slow, which made little or no difference to us. And they were kind enough to update us on the projected arrival times of our main plates. They were certainly doing a brisk business on a Tuesday afternoon.
On my way out, I was greeted by a particularly large brown duck, who seemed to have some sort of message for me (which I unfortunately did not understand, not being fluent in Duck.) But I loved the setting and the wildlife. The place feels very rural and is a nice escape. The food is decent, prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. I am sure we'll be back,
There are not too many places to dine right downtown in Long Grove, so we stopped when we got hungry: right here. There were ducks paddling in the pond below and a few chickens(?) that one of the waiters was charged with shooing out of the outdoor dining area, where we sat (amidst Jimmy Buffett-esque signs saying "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" and "Wasting Away in Margaritaville").
My dad and bf both went for burgers; mom and I had the appetizer portions of chicken skewers (since neither of us needed rice, which came with the entree). We still could have split the appetizer: 4 skewers in Greek dressing, plus blocks of feta, olives, cucumber and tomatoes. Overall, quite tasty. The guys also enjoyed their burgers.
We sat outside, which got a bit warm under the sun-shading tarp they had draped overhead on a 90-degree day. I went inside to use the restroom and saw that the dining room was very nice with a lovely view of the Mill Pond and a fountain in the middle.
Overall, a nice choice, though sit inside on a hot day!
Three stars might be pushing it a bit but as there's nothing really to complain about - but nothing really wowed us either. Â Had a burger that was plenty big to fill my tummy after walking around Long Grove all day....my wife had a salad. Â Both were decent but I guess I was expecting something a little more creative. Â Still, a decent option when you're in the area.
Review Source:The only thing good about our lunch was the french fries. Â Our server was a bit rude and seemed like there were 1000 things she'd rather be doing. Â The ostrich burger was DRY and uninspired (not to mention the fact that we requested a medium burger and it was VERY well done). Â The Mediterranean sandwich wasn't very good either. Â Our server also "forgot" to bring us some bread and we noted that we weren't getting the same introductory spiel that the other servers were giving their tables.
Review Source:Good food, abundant charm. Fits right into the Long Grove experience. A good choice for you and your in-laws after an afternoon of hitting the shoppe's.*
Had the hamburger with mushrooms and avocado. The burger itself was tender and flavorful. Avocado was nicely ripe but slightly bruised, the mushrooms were rewarmed or maybe canned? Still, the meal was fine. Accompanying fries had an interesting texture ("battered"?) a nice step from the usual path, crispy and not greasy. Worth repeating.
* Yes, I know better. I am _painfully_ aware. Oh, to be blissfully ignorant and not notice the "Thank you for visiting the Mill Pond Shoppe's" sign on the way out. ::sigh::
Pros:
* The view here is wonderful if your thing is swans, geese and ducks. The restaurant owners have feeders outside, so there's not just a few ducks, there's at least 100. The view of the pond is fantastic and, if lucky and seated near a window table, you will have a hard time looking away from the ducks. It's a little overwhelming.
* Complementary, freshly baked mini loaves of Turrano bread. Our waiter told us that they buy the dough and mix it with garlic and other seasonings and bake it fresh in-house. It's wonderful!
Cons:
* The restaurant could use an updated look. It looks very mid 80s. Brown leather chairs, dark wood and mauve accents.
* The food is just okay.
Appetizer:
Cheese Quesadillas - 1 huge quesadilla flat on a plate and 3 little plastic containers in the center of the quesadilla filled with guacamole, sour cream and salsa. Odd presentation.
Soup: Tomato Bisque - My friend and I both ordered this. It tasted like Progresso out of a can, completely over salted, and both were served near cold. We could hardly get through a few bites before sending them back.
Entrees:
Spanakopita served with roasted potatoes - The Spanakopita was SO greasy. It tasted ok, and the portion size was perfect, but it was shiny all over when I got it. It was hard to get passed the grease. The roasted potatoes were great.
Bacon Cheeseburger + Fries - My friend had no complaints.
2 stars. Maybe next time we'll skip the appetizer and soup, and stick with the free bread and order big salads. I'm willing to try this one again.
My Thursday lunch pal and I, looking for somewhere new to eat, found our selves at  the Long Grove Cafe.
It is a very nice place and the people who operate it are very congenial. Â For example, the owner (?), general manager (?) or what ever, Â greeted us when we arrived and said good bye and thanked us when we left.
The service was outstanding. Â The food was good. Â I had the onion soup and the house salad, my pal had a chef's salad (we're trying to drop a lb. or or two by spring). Â The salads were served with the dressing on the side, which I like. Â
Of course, salads & soup do not tell you much about the rest of the menu.
We were seated by the West facing windows, overlooking a duck pond, and the ducks provided pleasant lunch-time entertainment. Â
There is a deck outside where, in the summer time, service is provided. Â Also, there are little vending machines (like little candy or gum-ball machines) filled with cracked-corn and possibly other types of duck-feed. Â People with young children would no-doubt find this to be fun in the summer.
All-in-all, I think it was an enjoyable experience, and we will be back
This place is long on atmosphere and the food is decent. I really didn't order anything to help it stand out though. I ordered the French onion soup , which was very good. Â I got the French dip as well , which was really good. Yet my criteria for a 4 star restaurant is if it is somewhere I will be in the mood to go to. A 3 star place is somewhere I would have no problem going if someone suggests it , but probably won't be in the mood to go there by myself. This is definitely closer to 3 stars , but it's pretty there , the server was pretty nice, and the location was rather charming so I'll give it 4 stars by a nose.
