Oh I'm a sucker for a place that serves good drinks and doesn't smell like puke. Come on Chico... you know the places I'm talking about.
Once you are past the cheapest drinks you can buy phase of Chico life, come up to VIP Ultra Lounge. Â Check 'em out during happy hour to scout if you like it without paying a cover. Â I enjoyed my melon mojito- with none of the stickiness or smell associated with most the venues in Chico. Â I get that Chico isn't used to paying much of a cover charge at all, but I'd rather pay a cover and go somewhere gorgeous, comfortable & clean. Â I used to love the Bear & LaSalles, but you go there after a few drinks because otherwise you'd never get past the smell and in the door. Â You can smell them from outside. Â Yuck.
Other than harping on the fantasticness of a clean place- my husband has enjoyed his drinks there as well, we've had tacos and a steak/gorganzola pizza during happy hour- all good stuff. Â
And that explains why I'm headed there in 40 minutes to celebrate the end of my work week!
Chico is known for its numerous college bar, but along with college town bars comes college town kids. VIP Ultra Lounge has created a rift in the time continum that creates a palce for those longing to indulge without the issues of the past.
We happened to be walking down 2nd when we noticed the bouncer at the door who grabbed our attention with an explanation of the happy hour upstairs. The ambiance was amazing similar to clubs in SF or LA. Â There are numerous sofas, lounge seats and even an L shape pool table.
The waitress was amazing explaining what the specials were and providing an overview of the club. We ordered a dirty martini, old fashion and Chocolate Raspberry Martini.
The Lounge is the 2nd story to the Beach nightclub below. It looks like that took a great deal of time and money creating the space with a balcony seating area that overlooks the dance floor.
The cover charge is pricey for Chico $20 after 9, but if you get in early there are Happy hour drink specials and food. Check it out.
The VIP Ultra Lounge is by far the Nicest Bar in Chico! Their Happy hour from 5-8pm has the best priced martini's and mojito's as well as light dinner plates. This is a great place to relax and unwind after a long day in the office, or entertain clients outside the business. The staff are welcoming, professional and well educated on the drinks and types of alcohol selection available. VIP also has Champagne and wine by the bottle which is great when you have a birthday or special occasion. All in all a wonderful experience right in the heart of downtown Chico. You can't go wrong...
Review Source:A $20 cover charge gets you the following: private bathroom, free pool play on a  90 degree table (trust me it's a novelty not worth $.75/game to play), decent service, overpriced drinks, oh and the rudest treatment that you can find at the end of the night.  The wonderful ponytail-sporting "bouncer" will treat you like a third-rate citizen at the end of the evening even though the other clubs have yet to clear out.  It's possible that this was an off-night for all, but this guy is enough to ruin anyone's most positive experience.  Combine that with the less-than mediocre effect of the rest of the overpriced "fun" time that you're paying for, and you're in for a disappointment that will far surpass anything else that you can get in Chico.
