I've got some fond memories of this place. It's been almost two years since I've stepped in the doors, but there was a time when I no longer needed to get carded on my way in.

I spent two summers in Geneseo, and if there was a saving grace to those hot, insanely quiet summers, it was being able to swing down to whatever bars were open, and the Vital Spot responded in spades.

I remember going to trivia nights (never winning but having a blast), coming for my friend's 21st birthday before most people ever got back and we essentially had the place to ourselves and kicking off the weekend with one of the best Fish Frys that I can remember and continue to long for.

I just hope it hasn't changed too much since.

This place actually has a really good food deal during the week. I don't remember what it was but go down there and do some research.

They make some pretty good mixed drinks and the bar itself is pretty clean for a college bar.

I always had a good time when I came here. And it's conveniently located across the street from the ATM machine that has money in it sometimes.

I was always a fan of the Vital when I was in school here.  There was a good selection of beers, and the crowd was always felt more grown up than the other bars.  I remember going there a lot of Thursday nights.  I think it was quarter drafts.

I also remember getting a rainbow shot once or twice.  Basically 5 different colored shots, all with different ingredients.   The day I turned 21 and got my birthday mug, I drank for 4 hours straight.  A great place that is worth stopping by if you are in Geneseo.

Apparently this is the place to be in Geneso during the school year. We went here 2 nights when I was in town and it was PACKED both nights. Decent atmosphere, a little hard to get a drink, and you cannot hear the person next to you to save your life.

Make sure you get there early to get a table.

Total thumbs up for having Three Olives vodka. Good drink prices.

I''m sure I'll go back when I'm in town again.

I pretty much lived at the Vital Spot for a three year period. Their menu has typical bar fair, with a wide selection of wings, as well as a special Friday Night Menu that has an interesting collection of food (they served Ostrich a few times).

As far as a the bar itself goes it is clean, well staffed, and has lots of TVs. My drinks were always well made. The crowd is a mixture of college students and locals, not dominated by any one crowd.

It is by far my favorite bar South of Rochester. The best in Livingston County by far (I don't know if the competition in really that stiff) and it competes with some of the better college/sports bars I have been in.

I hate myself for liking this place. The Vital Spot is my go-to bar when I am home because it's classier than Kelly's, has a better location than the Statesmen, is less pretentious than the Idle Hour, has less old people than Club 41, and unlike the IB, is open in the summer. It's not the best bar I've ever been to, but it's better than the alternatives. The bartenders here are cool most of the time and will recognize you after a few visits.

The beer selection is excellent, for Geneseo. They have good beers, such as Newcastle and Hoegaarden, and not-so-good beers, like Busch Light, a can of which was bought for me the last time I was home. Thanks Jeff, you cheap bastard. Mixed drinks aren't the strongest and you should probably go to Kelly's first if you plan on getting tanked on rum and cokes. I've been a Sapphire and Tonic fiend this summer, but I discovered that this habit got  somewhat expensive at the Vital. In yet another attempt to class up the joint, the Vital now serves a couple of single malt scotches and premium brandies. I had my first Glenlivet here for only six bucks.

The Vital serves a bunch of sauces with their chicken wings; however, I haven't been impressed with their wings the few times I have sampled them. Maybe it was because I had just come from the Wadsworth Grill, or maybe it was because I was eating my friend's leftovers that he had ordered over an hour earlier. In any case, the wings were just average.

On a final note, the jukebox here is awesome, though you might have to pay a buck to play an obscure song, like The Killer's cover of "Romeo and Juliet" or Vampire Weekend's "A-Punk." I play these two songs whenever I go to a bar. Sometimes the bartenders put like 40 credits on the machine. I would suggest playing some good songs before some asshole selects 5 Dave Matthews songs in a row or something by Korn.

In sum, The Vital is a respectable bar that has billiards, darts, Big Buck Hunter, and Wii to keep you entertained while frat guys slip roofies into your girlfriend's drink.

    Tell Hess I said hi.
