This place used to be really fun to go to a while back, even going to the bathroom was an adventure, but yeah... now I am not impressed.  You walk in, and the lighting that they added really shows you how horrible their walls are.  The place has an undeniably nasty stench to it, that I cannot quite put my finger on, then again... it could be a mixture of sweat and alcohol... from the crowds that gather here to listen to excessively loud metal bands.  I might stop off here again if I am drinking in the area, but I would probably go to one of the other bars on the same street, as they smell better and play their music at a level that does not cause my ears to ring when I leave.

OK, avert your eyes if you don't like foul language, 'cause I am PISSED!

This place is an embarrassment to Sparks.  Friend and I went to see Cage the Elephant tonight, and it was a total debacle from the moment we got there to the moment we walked out.

Rage-inducing incident #1:  Our tickets specifically stated the show started at 7pm.  We arrived at 6:45 to a locked door.  After waiting over half an hour, a bouncer poked his head out and told us that we needed to line up in the alley in back and that the doors would open at 8pm.  Well, that's just FUCKING GREAT because what I really wanted to do with my evening was hang out with a bunch of 15-year-olds in an alley in Sparks.

Rage-inducing incident #2:  Even after the doors opened, we were forced to wait in this unbelievably dumpy place (and I mean that literally; the design theme here seems to be landfill chic--our table was an overturned trash can) for another hour before the show started.  To review: a show scheduled to start at 7 started at 9:04.  Jesus, people!  Put the goddamn opening acts out!  THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE THERE FOR!

Rage-inducing incident #3:  An all-ages show?  REALLY?  It was like fucking Romper Room in there!  A nasty, smoke-filled bar teeming with drunken idiots late on a school night--why yes, that seems like the perfect place for my tween!

Rage-inducing incident #4:  My weak drinks.

Rage-inducing incident #5:  After suffering through hours of this crap, when Cage the Elephant finally came on, the sound and lights repeatedly went out.  It was embarrassing.  They were good sports about it, but I cannot believe this venue gets the acts it does with such shit-poor management.  Just. Awful.

I will never come back here.  Ever.  I don't care if The Rolling Stones teamed up with the ghost of Michael Jackson to stage a free concert here just for me.  This place is a total dump.

the name completely threw me off. It sounds like a "gentlemans club". But its a punk rock bar/venue. We went for a show on a sat night and the place gets pretty crowded.

The only downside is that the bar is seperated from where the band plays. So if you like to drink like my friends and I do then you have to either pound drinks between bands or show up drunk already.

    Cheap drinks made everything ok!

At first I thought this place was going to be a hip hop bar but as I walked in the door, I realized right away this is no hip hop bar!  It's a Punk Rock bar!  Whoo hoo!

The place itself hosts a variety of local fair from rockers to hipsters and strippers alike.  The bartenders are very friendly with the occasional "on the house drink" and ready to keep you there all night in good spirts.  I hope you get to meet the owner and self proclaimed "director of fun" E.W.  God bless this man, he has put together a fantastic place.

The local kids who reside in this bar are ready to strike up a conversation or shoot a game of pool, especially if you buy the drinks!    Beware:  this bar will not close at two a.m. like you may be used to.  My first night I hung out with some of the regulars and figured a good first impression was in order.  I didn't stumble (and I do mean stumble) out of there until 4a.m.!

There are two (count um) booths to sit at with a stripper pole in between, that alone can provide a night of entertainment  Mostly people hang out at the long bar (that is what you are here for right...drinks?) or outside at a few tables pounding beers on the table and singing "Flogging Molly".
there is a pool table and a large venue area that hosts local rock shows.  Small and national acts travel through this little gem hidden away from the mess of downtown Reno.

Hope to see you again at the VIEXN.
