Excellent food and service. I am a vegetarian and our server, David, worked w me to have a special dish made. His svc was great and he was a real cheerleader for the restaurant, which I think says a lot. It was a happening fun spot on a Thursday night and the view really is nice. Such great decor, this really is a little gem, something different in Lexington. Oh--fabulous, moist flourless chocolate cake!
Review Source:I've only been to Vue once, we had a party of 6 for a birthday dinner. Â We ordered several bottles of wine, appetizers, entrees and desserts. Â We all really enjoyed our food (the steaks were fantastic), and our waiter was super personable and helpful (we asked tons of questions about the food). Â I would definitely go back for a special occasion.
Review Source:Walking off the elevator Vue, has the feel of a high end night club or the opening scene for a spy movie. Muted dark colors grace the concrete floor giving the high rise restaurant the feeling of a basement night club that hidden from the world except for its guests. . As you walk in there are small tables and some cozy arm chairs were couples can gather and relax with a drink in the lounge style entry way. Turning right the corner of the building opens to booths lining the window clad walls and a bar wrapping in to the building. The bar list is great and the gentlemen tending it impeccable. Ushered in politely by the hostess we sat down in our window seat, the view was disappointing it not all that amazing from such a low height. Come for the food instead. Our server was fast and polite willing to make recommendation but asking about tastes and styles first, always a good sign. One thing that was nice is I'm allergic to mushrooms so the cooks were nice enough to substitute the herb risotto of the day for the mushroom one that came with my bacon wrapped scallops. They were sweet and seared perfectly with a deep and filling bed of risotto under them, a creamy impeccable dish. Â We also got the shrimp and grits, the cheesy grits were covered in large shrimp with a sweet tang to the meat. And to end the meal they had an in house made gelato sampler. Â The colorful plate showcasing the flavors way wonderful, Â unfortunately we didn't get the Makers Mark gelato as they were making a new batch and it was not hard enough yet.
Review Source:It was a Saturday evening and there were 8 of us out celebrating a going away party at The Vue. We were seated at a special corner table by the window, which was nice. Our server was prompt, polite, and generally well versed on the menu items and daily specials. In a celebratory mode, all of us ordered an alcoholic beverage and some appetizers. The drinks were great. However, the pluses came to a screeching halt as soon as I got my food.
First on the chopping block, the gyoza (pot stickers). While the pot stickers were generous in size and looked homemade, but the improper preparation made the dough soggy and gummy. They lack the chewy texture of a well-kneaded dough. Next up, the spinach dip. The dip was creamy, but it tasted ordinary with no nuances of the parmesan cheese that it claimed on the menu. And, I also noticed that the spinach looked somewhat brownish. What happened?
As for my entree, I chose to sample the sushi menu. Much to my surprise and confusion, neither nigiri nor sashimi was listed in the sushi menu. The server informed me that sushi chef can prepare them per guest request. So, I ventured on and ordered the classic Tuna Sashimi, the safety default option of all sushi bar the Shrimp Tempura Roll, and the more adventurous multi-component Thoroughbred Roll. The Tuna Sashimi portion was small-ish and tasted flatter than the Maguro (tuna) which I'm accustomed. The Shrimp Tempura Roll was very disappointing. The tempura batter was as soft and limp as couple sheets of wet tissue paper. A fried to order shrimp, first dipped in batter mixed with iced-cold soda water, rolled in panko (japanese bread crumbs), and then deep fried would certainly add an audible and luscious crunch to the tempura roll. Next up was the multi layered Thoroughbred Roll. Oh boy, where do I start? The roll consisted of some of my favorite fish: yellow tail and white tuna. The roll looked really interesting. The yellow tail spiced with Serrano pepper was wrapped in nori and rice, and top with torched white tuna. Then, there were a few pieces of congealed gel sheet (herb ponzu) draped on top of the roll. Interesting right? So, I thought. After the first morsel, I was attacked with a pungent and briny punch. The culprit? It was the gel sheet that tasted like an over reduced fish stock. Needless to say, the delicate flavors of the yellow tail and white tuna were completely obliterated.
There is yet another element from the sushi bar that didn't score much on my card. It was the plating. My entire order was presented on a mid-size low profile bowl. Due to the size of the bowl and its curve, the entree looked crowded and off-balanced, therefore rejected the simplicity and aesthetics in sushi plating. A self-respecting and well-trained Itamae (sushi chef) would have reached for a flat platter or geta (wooden block) to present the edible artwork. Sounds petty and trivial? When I'm forking out $55-$60 per person on dining (not including alcoholic beverage), I tend to bring my expectation and pay closer attention to my food.
If you are only looking for a swanky and contemporary restaurant / lounge with great service and a nice perspective of downtown, then do go and you won't be disappointed. The Vue has much to catch up on it's food quality and technique. I hope they will improve in time as I do like having an urban chic venue to frequent in downtown Lexington.
This is just a review of sushi and drinks. First off, the view is spectacular. A must go just for the view and a few cocktails. If you're on a budget, check it out on a Tues. or Thurs. for half off sushi and $5 martinis. We had a seat at the bar, the bartender was extremely friendly and helpful when selecting a drink. The sushi chef helped us choose a few items. I cant wait to go back and actually try some of the menu items. I will be taking my family here when they visit. Don't forget to check out the club next door (its connected) LeVeL, also amazing views and one of the nicest clubs in Lexington.
Review Source:Food was actually very good, from appetizer to dessert except for my salmon which turned out very salty, I was still able to eat it by removing the salty surface. Â Not all creme brulees are the same, theirs was very delicious. Service was superb, deserved 20% tip. Â Manager came to our table, and check how everything was, from my understanding, the restaurant is under new management. Â Very expensive, thus only 4 stars. Â $80 for 2 entrees, 1 appetizer, 1 dessert, and 1 iced tea, tax and tip. By the way, you get a nice view of Lexington from 15th floor of chase building.
