I love Hill's and can't understand the negative reviews on the food. Â Bar is comfy and bartenders awesome. Â I do notice a lack of customers during the day when I mostly go for lunch at the bar. Â Last evening 5 of us met for a Meetup here and the food and drinks were as good as it gets. Â And the service. Â Day is not only lovely, she is attentive and professional. Â I have no relationship to Hill's.
Review Source:Went here for a bite to eat prior to the Manchester Monarchs hockey game on Saturday, 4/6/13. The bartenders were very attentive, the draft beer was cold, but the food was a little bit to be desired. I ordered the steak tips medium rare. Waited half-an-hour for the food to arrive, only to find out the tips were way over done. Didn't want to risk waiting another half hour for a new order, so I ate them anyways. Very dry.
Review Source:Great sports bar before a Monarchs game but make sure you make reservations if you want a table. This place gets packed. Â Casual and loud so good for the rowdy family with kids. Basic American fare everything we had from wings to burgers were fine. We had 7 kids and service was great and kids loved the large screen Golden Tee game.
Review Source:First time coming there, and safe to say that I'll only be coming here for drinks at the bar rather than sit down and eat. The bartender was faster at taking orders when we were at the bar first than the waitress we had. She took forever to come back and was not that pleasant. I hear it's a good place to come for a sports game, maybe I'll try that next time I just want to go out for drinks and not food.
Review Source:I frequent JW Hills only for the drinks and attentive bartenders. The service is pretty good here. Â Yet, Â I think JW's still has a lot to learn when it comes to positioning itself as a proper sportsbar. Â Back in it's glory days it was where people used to go due to limited quality that existed in Manchester. Â You can only get by so long with mediocre food, cheap beer during games, and TVs (which need serious updating). Â
As the night goes on, the place usually gets  filled with overly dressed pretentious guys and girls looking to drink cheaply before going somewhere else more exciting.
As much as I like this place, the quality, appearance and taste of the food is awful. Â It's like someone raided the frozen appetizer section at your local grocery store, cooked it and served it to you for a higher cost. Â People go here to drink not eat, unless you're from out of town and don't know any better. Â
It's sad because this place could have so much more going for it.
I've been here a few times....twice for dinner and once for trivia night (Wednesdays).
Trivia night was well done and very fun. The host gave out t-shirts randomly throughout the night. Mixed rinks are not the cheapest , but if you are going for what's on tap it's a lot cheaper, but in general they are not unreasonable. We also ordered chili nachos and shared them as a group. They were delicious and heavy on the toppings.
For dinner I have had the margherita pizza, french onion soup and grilled chicken club.
The pizza was amazing. Just the right amount of cheese and sauce with a thin crust. It was enough for me to eat as a full meal without needing more.
The french onion soup was delicious as well and was a very generous serving. It hit the flavor spot on. Sometimes french onion soup can lack flavor or be salty but this one was perfect.
The grilled chicken club was HUGE. Definitely enough for two meals. You had your choice of cheese and bread, then grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce and tomato accompanied by french fries or salad (charged more for salad). The sandwich itself was so big I had to take it apart to eat it. It was very tasty though and what you expect for a chicken club. If looking for a smaller version you can opt for the grilled chicken sandwich, its the same thing just smaller and on a single roll instead of double layer sliced bread. (My sister got that meal and when my huge sandwich arrived, I wish I had chosen the same as her). The fries was ok. Not the worst fries. They were thick and cooked well but didn't have any additional seasonings.
Out of their specialty drinks I have only had...I don't remember the exact name, something to do with Jolly Rancher maybe? It was way to sweet for my tastes and I didn't finish it.
Overall this is a great place to eat and enjoy a drink .
Ive had drinks here before and ate here for the first time last Saturday. It wasn't really very good. The margarita I ordered was literally the worst I have ever had. And I usually order margaritas everywhere I go. I don't know if it was the bartenders skills, or the bottomshelf liquor, maybe the sour mix... but it was awful.
We mostly ordered appetizers. Chicken fingers, potato skins, and our friend ordered some sort of spinach dip and a salad.
There were probably only about five or six tables in this huge place with people sitting at them, so I figured it'd be good for some quick bar food. It took close to forty minutes to get our food. It wasn't the worst bar food, but it wasn't very good either.
a table that sat down at least ten minutes after us and had one or two extra people and clearly ordered more food got served way before us by the same waitress. This kind of screams "disorganized kitchen!" and definitely doesn't say anything good for their service.
The service on a not so busy Saturday afternoon was awkward. It seemed like there was plenty of waitstaff, but I constantly found the needs of our table were left unaddressed for long periods of time. Id go here for a couple of beers and that's about it.
If you can't cook steak tips, you shouldn't be in business. Ordered mine med rare, received med. well. showed waitress and she took it stating they would do another one. 5 min later see came out and asked how I wanted and said that the tips were red in the kitchen (yea right). They brought my 2nd try and it was med. Â ish, I ate these but will not return. apparently the seafood pasta dish is ok though.
Review Source:I went to J.W. Hills a couple months ago with my boyfriend. It wasn't anything super special but a comfortable place to hang with a nice quiet atmosphere. Lucky to find not too may college students around here. If you're looking for quieter night but still want to grab a brew and catch the game head here.
Review Source:It's ok for games since they do have quite a bit of Tvs but I'm not a fan of hand stamps into a bar. The place has a weird set up... Sit down tables take over most of the place which I find odd since they are only open weekend nights and the mood is not to sit. Drinks are avg price. Only had an app here once which was decent.
Today the server was rude and told us we had to leave our card open because if not she doesn't make any money (we just wanted the one and close it out) she made no sense and we got the impression she was mad we weren't guzzling drinks. Not very welcoming.
This is a very solid sports bar, great for watching a Sox game at the bar. Good drink specials, nachos were above average, bartenders were attentive, TV screens well placed. I also thought the burgers were quite good on a previous visit.
I can't comment on this place as a restaurant or an after hours meet market, but it's the best place in Manchvegas to throw back a few cold ones and catch a game.
JW Hill is alright! Really good drink specials (cheap Sam Adams during Red Sox games!!) and okay food. The burgers are good, nothing to write home about, but the portions are a good size (don't order the cheeseburger club unless you are REALLY hungry). If you're going for the atmosphere though, you need to bring your own. Great place to go with a big group of friends because there is a lot of space to spread out, but otherwise don't expect much.
Review Source:Trash! GAG! I've never experienced so many multicolored polo shirts in one sitting. AHHH! A giant rainbow of egotistical bros who think every girl in the place wants their baby wieners. The ladies will only pretend you're interesting until they get you to buy them a drink. Maybe next time pack your bulge a little more and pretend to have a different personality from the guy next to you...Good Luck! :)
eh I'm being harsh. It's not the worst...maybe...okay yeah.
BUT on the plus side I snuck in four beers and a bottle of vodka with chaser and they didn't notice. YAY drinking at the bar for free!!!! I guess their stupidity works in my favor.
Good times at JW's, plus its proximity to my work X-mas party makes it one of those places where strange things happen..every year.. mwhahaha...
Excellent crowd, spacious bar. Typical sports bar feel. Not blah, but not intergalactic either. Â Food's decent and drinks are inexpensive. Haven't been there for a Sox or Pats game, but will give it a chance this summer.
We ended up stopping here for lunch on a Saturday. It was a nice sunny day and it was hard to see much as the place has no blinds. That was one of two small issues. The other was I ordered chili and there was no spoon. Other then that my Cheeseburger Club was huge and great tasting. Onion rings were perfectly cooked and the friendly waitress gave me a dipping sauce that was tasty. My girlfriend had the chicken nachos and thought they were fantastic. They put a layer of chips, chicken and cheese then added a second layer of the same. Good where all the good stuff is not just on top and at the end your left with a plate of chips. The place looked like it would be fun to hang at. They had the usual Jagger machine but then they had a Soco and Lime machine as well as a Patron machine.. Being a bartender I had never seen these and thought it was great.
Review Source:Went to JW's for an early dinner over the weekend on a overnight visit to Manchester. The nachos were very good. I got the espinace sauce on the side because I wasn't sure but it made the dish. My boyfriend got chili to start. Thick and hearty. Served with chips to scoop. He also got a cheeseburger club. It was great. Served with tons of onion rings and fresh wheat bread. Huge portions. Neither of could finish. Our waitress was friendly and nice. We had asked her for suggestions of where to go at night. She was very helpful. Suggested a few places to go to and a few to stay away from because it is a college (young) crowd. She said that this bar was a younger crowd and got very busy at night.
Review Source:This is in a prime spot located on a corner near the "entrance" to the little 4 or so block one-strip known as Manchester downtown. Â The decor is nice- not too over the top, relatively classy. Â Quick service, clean. Â Food is pricey for a bar type of atmosphere but not gross and gray. Â Worth a visit if you're in Manchester looking for drinks AND food at the same time.
Review Source:Not a big fan of the place..been there couple times
its a sports bar but blasting the music having live bands at the same time..don't know if they are trying to be a club or a bar....and having tables sitting there so loud cant hear each other speak....
other than that the drinks are pretty cheap but that goes for most bars in new Hampshire...
J.W. Hill's is a good place to get drinks and dinner after work and before special events at the Verizon. The place has high ceilings with TVs high up around the bar area. Mixed crowd here and one of the busier places on the strip during Red Sox games.
However, over several visits, the quality of the food here has slipped since my initial visit last year. The food here, typical pub fare with modest portions, has been okay and nothing to write home about.
The bar was hopping during the Patriots game and the crowd was great.
The space was wide open and wood laden, I completely approve of the atmosphere. One thing, though, they have lights hanging down off the bar that get in the way of the TVs if you're at a table.
The burgers were pretty good, the fries were good, and the tortilla chips were great. Home fried, not out of a bag.
5 for the quality of the materials and the crowd, 3 for the food.
