I've been a Waffle House fan since my first visit to the franchise during a trip to Ohio. I still remember that day fondly... I had ordered a Texas Cheesesteak. They brought it out and it lay there on my plate, glistening in all it's oily glory. I took a bite and as I pulled the delicious artery clogging sandwich away it felt as if there was a layer of Vaseline on my lips. My fingers were slippery with grease, but I couldn't let go. I went in for another bite and from there I was hooked. I've had the opportunity to visit Waffle Houses in North Carolina and now here in Illinois and I tell ya, it's good no matter where you are.
Review Source:I have been obsessed with Waffle House and their hashbrowns since college road trips down south. I'll take mine smothered, occasionally smothered and covered, please! Mmmmm, this time I enjoyed a waffle and sausage as well. I must say, either it was all in my head or the waffle houses in "the south" are much tastier. I grew up not far from Collinsville so I knew (again, in my head) that I wasn't getting a true southern experience, haha. I'll take it though. Living in Chicago now this is the closest Waffle House to me and perhaps I'll be making more trips to Collinsville when I return to my hometown. Good thing I don't go home all that often or I'd need some serious blood pressure and cholesterol meds :)
Review Source:Oh my goodness, how I wish there was a Waffle House anywhere on the West Coast! But nooooo, the owners don't want to pay CA minimum wage.
I swear to you, they'd make mad bank if they opened one here.
In late August 2009, my dad took me and my sister on a cross country road trip. This was the first Waffle House any of us had ever set foot in. We hadn't a clue as to what to expect. The waitress was super friendly and very patient with these weird So Cal creatures.
When we were there, they had a breakfast special: a waffle or biscuit and gravy, bacon or sausage patty, grits or hash browns, toast, eggs.. Um I think that was it. Anyway, two of those orders, (we tried one of everything), fed the three of us. AND there was leftover food. All for around $14!?!? No way! That can't happen in CA!
Since grits aren't really a CA thing, our kind waitress prepared ours how she likes them; with salt, pepper, and sugar. I'm not a fan.. But everything else was the best.
What tripped us out the most was that *everything* was made right then and there.
Places like this don't really exist in CA. =[
I'd have to get rolled around if there was a Waffle House in the state of California. Yup.
