Walker's Cafe

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.  Reading the one star reviews is pure comedy.  It's a biker cafe/bar, not a hipster hangout for the skinny jeans crowd from Silver Lake.  It could do with a lick of paint, so what?!  The food is average, home cooked food.  But what makes this place is the down to earth feel.  Also, the women behind the counter will not take any crap from people.  Make a dumb comment, and the server will deliver a sharp retort, and the bikers propping up the bar will snicker at you.  Sit at the bar and watch people walk in and try to charge their food to credit card (cash only), see them look at the old menu painted over the counter and order from it (it's obsolete).  

Pros:  food is cheap, the place has a load of history behind it.  It is located on the old Red Car route and apparently sold tickets.  Look out for Bessie's wooden club that is stored behind the counter.  Bessie would use it on bikers who wouldn't behave themselves.

Cons:  they need more vegetarian entrees.  As a non-meat eater, I usually order the grilled cheese sandwich with fries or an omelet.

This place sucks, I added one star because I love my neighborhood and I can't bring myself to give them the two stars they deserve. It took me long enough, but I finally stopped in at Walkers after walking around the park.

I walked in, ordered a burger with onion rings and a beer while pointing to the tap. The lady grabbed a bottle of Bud and opened it. Hmm, I would have ordered a different beer if I wanted a bottle. I don't really fancy Bud but I wanted a draft beer. I guess she didn't want to have to wash a glass. That's the theme here, nobody gives a shit, about anything. Who cares that it's a biker hangout? Bikers with tastebuds go to Utro's for a burger and a beer.

So how shall I review this place? As a dive bar or as a burger joint? Doesn't matter, they suck at both. The beer selection is non existent and the food is awful. Onion rings fresh from the freezer and a hockey puck of a burger, overcooked and tasteless. It is cheap, I'll give them that but you get what you pay for.

This place was probably good once but it's painfully obvious nobody here cares anymore. Leave the doors open, let the flies come in, and cook food from the freezer. Who cares? Certainly nobody at Walkers. I do hope somebody buys this place and injects some love into it. This is a fantastic neighborhood and our beloved bikers deserve better.
