My husband and I have frequented Westside Alehouse since they've opened. I agree with other posters - they have made DRASTIC improvements in both service and their menu since opening. I'm glad we gave it a second chance! It's important to us to support local Round Rock businesses as I-35 is chain-restaurant-alley. We were so so excited that Round Rock finally had a true "alehouse." Yes, the decor is a little odd but they have a broad selected of local beers. Way more than any nearby restaurants or local bars like Junior's or Third Base. I think Brass Tap is going to be slight competition, but they are in a different ballpark altogether (no restaurant).

Overall - we like this place. There's always good beer on tap, never had problems with service, and food is always prompt and hot. We've tried a little bit of everything on the menu: the queso, burgers, boneless wings, wrap, sandwiches, fish and chips, and the kit kat dessert.... all of them have been good! We always seem to default and order the burger though; can't go wrong with a burger. I've even ordered the veggie patty on a few occasions and it was good. Both the regular and sweet potato fries are yummy.

Families, young singles, older couples, and business crowds alike have been here when we visit. It's really a good mix of folks. A place to go for good bar type of food, and a great selection of drinks. We haven't enjoyed the live music, but there seem to be bands out on the patio regularly.

Give it a try! And support local business!!!

Ok first time here... me and hubby decided to check it out as we are so sick of all the same ole restaurants around here.... jeez.... from the minute we walked in I knew it was going to be a good experience, big giant flat screens, pool tables, and shuffle board??? Yes!! The beer selections were awesome, even though I didn't have any beer, my hubby did, I decided I wanted an apple martini, you know the kind.... that tastes like the jolly rancher apple candy pieces...well let me tell you, the best appletini I have had since we moved out here 4 years ago, perfect, not too sweet, just right and reasonable priced in a very nice sized martini glass. (Our waitress barely made it to the table without spilling as it was filled to the rim)... Did I mention her by the way? She was awesome, Kayla, she was patient and attentive.)  So we decided to have a few items on the menu to get a well rounded taste, onion rings, buffalo wings, and a cheeseburger... we split everything. The burger was by far the star... I hate when some places like to overpower the meat with a pretzel bun, ciabatta bun, or something gigantic where you can't even taste the damn meat.... hello...... I want a cheeseburger not a breadburger....the burger was Delicious!!  Tender, juicy,  tasty, and the bun was just right: soft, and fit just right...We are carnivores from Chicago, this is what I am talking about! We had the Afterburner Burger, plenty of jalapenos, cheese, and like I said yummy! The onion rings were also a star, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, not frozen junk..... the outside is really nice too plenty of room, great for after work cocktails...... will we be back? You betcha!!
P.S. 2 drinks each and all that food for under $50.00 and this was not happy hour!

Our first and last visit to Westside Alehouse was last Saturday evening. I waited a few days to post our review so I could not be so jaded. The service was extremely bad. I read the reviews and thought I was prepared. It took 20 minutes to get the beer we ordered. It took over an hour to get our food, and it was cold. The second beer we ordered, when it was finally delivered- 30 minutes this time, was wrong. We were only a table of 4. We didn't place any special requests, just a couple of burgers and a wrap. We did get chips and salsa- took FOREVER to get additional salsa. I have no clue how this place stays in business with the slow rate they turn tables and the cold food. The location and the atmosphere are great, however, the negatives far out way the positives for me.

Really nice beer selection but that doesn't overcome the bad service and mediocre food..I had to ask for my check 3 times..

I'm really surprised about the bad reviews this place has been getting. I brought my family here for the first time today and everything was terrific. I had the fish and chips with the fried pickles and nachos for appetizers (we had a big table). The beer selection, as one would expect given the name of the place, is amazing and it has a great atmosphere. The Large outdoor seating area with a stage for events has covering and fans to fight off the Texas heat. My only knock was for the (men's) restroom. It needed a little more attention. All in all, this place was pretty sweet!

My wife and I were invited to join another couple at the WestSide Ale House to listen to a band in the outdoor pavilion. The facility looks new and quite right for a sports bar with many local and domestic beers. We sat under the covered pavilion which was well equipped for cold or warm weather events i.e. heaters and fan driven misters.
We ordered beer of our individual choosing and enjoyed the live music. We had eaten earlier and have no comment regarding the food quality, but after reading the other reviews, I am hesitant to arrive with plans to eat here.
The only down-side we experienced was the absence of adequate parking. If a patron had not departed at the same time we arrived, we would not have found a parking spot until someone else had decided to leave.

This is the First Time I have ever had to give any place a one Star Rating. OMG here is why.

Our waters Alexia was very nice, On the other had Hector the Manager of the Alehouse was a very rude manager so let call him (No Customer Service Manager or NCSM) for short. Let me tell you why, me and my friend both had a 5-dollar off our total meal coupon and the manager would not honor both coupons he said one coupon per table. We told him we had Separate checks he said that it did not matter. We did not known that, we understood and were cool with it. Hector NCSM went on and on about how the Alehouse would lose so much money if he gave everyone a 5 dollar off coupon. That was not the point at all we had gotten the Coupon from The YELP website and we thought we could use it. So it was cool really we were fine with it. Hector the NCSM would not shut up and would not leave us alone. What upset me the most was that he was rude and very, very ugly to my wife and talked down to her. Hector the NCSM was out of line, and really should not treat his customers so badly. Anyone that knows me knows that I know customer services.

What he should  of said "I am sorry Mr. Customer if you look and read the coupon it said one per table. I will let you use your coupon time, but please remember this in the future. We want to thank you for coming in to the Alehouse and we would hope that you would come back to see us again" A much better response. He would have had a loyal customer for life.

Hey guys, we all work very hard for our money and in this day and age we all don't have a lot of expendable cash to go out and eat.  So we pick and choose where we want to go and spend our money carefully.

That is why we use YELP.Com RIGHT!!.

I will never go back to the Westside Alehouse ever again, and we will tell everyone I know NOT to go there especially if your trying to use one of there 5.00 dollar off coupons it will break Westside Alehouse because Hector the NCSM said so.......

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR TIME, There are a lot place you can go in Round Rock you can go for a burger and beer.

So I was a bit iffy about this place because of all the other bad reviews, but it was actually an ok experience!
We had an issue w/our waitress initially, but the manager sorted it out.
The food isn't great, but it isn't as bad as all the other reviews. The Reuben was blah, but the Bourbon boneless wings were solid. The fried KitKat dessert is actually pretty epic!
This place doesn't brew any of their own beers and they aren't exactly cheap on the pints, but they have a huge selection.
We went for trivia, which was fun, of not a little disorganized. The layout is different and has a very open feel. It is more a sportsbar than an "Alehouse" in my opinion.
With the $10 for $20 Yelp deal, it is worth checking out.

Been here for Saturday lunch quite a bit lately, but this was our first time there in the evening.  As others have mentioned, the beer selection is superb.  They have a great focus on local craft beers - something sorely missing from Round Rock until now.  The staff can be a little hit or miss if you don't know your beer - some seem to know all of the 100+ beers available (51 tap, 60+ bottles and cans), while others, well, don't.  With this broad of a selection though I tend to be a little more forgiving about not knowing everything.  We tend to request seating based on where our preferred server is working to avoid any issues.

As far as food goes almost everything we have had has been good - not great, but good.  As I said, we mostly eat here mid-afternoon on Saturdays when the kitchen can't be that busy.  On the Saturday night the fried mushrooms seemed a little greasier than usual, but everything else was solid.  Menu is mostly pretty basic bar food, competently executed.  Favorites are the boneless wings (Caliente sauce is one of my favorite hot wing sauces I've had), sliders, and green chile fries.  Had the macho nacho burger last night and enjoyed that too.

The building itself is very clean, bright, and fairly modern.  Our friend who was visiting for the first time last night called the "anti-pub", but it actually kind of works and gives the place it's own character.  It also probably gets another half star or so for being in Round Rock - nice to have a place worth going to without having to leave town.

This is a first impression review based on a single visit, spent on the patio with a large group.

    Beer selection: Five stars.

Food selection and quality: Three stars. Good selection but inconsistent quality; some items (sauerkraut balls) were excellent, others (onion rings) were excessively greasy and salty.

Atmosphere: Four stars before the live music started, two after the band went on (the Sticky Notes, self-proclaimed "Austin's Best Cover Band"...maybe that's an aspirational title).

Service: One star. We had a single waitress taking orders for our table of 12+, plus two other, similarly large groups at adjacent tables. Other staff helped with running food and drinks to the tables, but just the one girl was taking orders for all three tables, and failing miserably to keep up. She also was not at all familiar with most of the craft beers on tap, or even with what was sold out and what else had been tapped in its place. (For future reference, Sam Adams's Grumpy Monk, although quite enjoyable, is *not* "very similar" to Rogness's Beardy Guard. At all.)

The extensive craft-and-local beer selection alone is reason enough to plan a return visit, but I hope to heaven the service this time was just a fluke.

The food here is not bad - although even being of German descent myself, the sauerkraut balls were something new but rather tasty - and the beer selections is pretty good, especially if you want to try the local Austin/CenTex brews.

Occasions the Alehouse might be good for: you are a beer aficionado and you want to try 51 kinds of drafts, you want to watch a game while drinking beer.

Occasions you'd be better finding somewhere else to go: if you want to eat.

Everything is so mediocre and bland and fried and tasteless. I've consumed a million calories and enjoyed none of them. Nothing was awful or gross, but nothing was good (except the draft beer selection, of course.)

Sauerkraut balls - bland beyond belief. We doused them in the hot sauce from the condiment tray to give them any flavor at all. Skip these at all costs.

Mucho Nacho Burger - it's always a warning sign when the server fails to ask how you want your burger done, and sure enough, ours came cremated at totally well done. Ugh. Despite being covered in jalapeños, this burger had zero taste of any kind. It had a tiny dollop of old salsa on it. Really greasy. I'm going to regret eating this in about half an hour. Would absolutely not order again.

After Burner Burger - better than the Mucho but still greasy and bland. Definitely not spicy in the least. A toddler could eat this and not be offended.

Overall - barely, barely worth the cost you pay ($8.99/burger). Honestly, Whataburger is tastier but it's around the same price so that's essentially what you get here but with beer selection.

Service was fine, no issues whatsoever even on a Friday night. Tacky/nasty posters have been removed from the men's room.

Sorry Alehouse, if you can't make a decent burger, maybe you should stick to beer only.

I've been a couple of times now. I have to say, the food is stellar! Try the grilled cheese. YUM! The staff knows their beer they know what they all are, they know he to help you pick one. I'm impressed! Their food is way better than you would expect from an ale house. It's definitely been updated from some previous reviews. Positive changes have been made and its worth trying.

My boyfriend and I were driving around last weekened looking for a place to eat when we passed by Westside. We had passed by numerous times and decided to stop in and try it. The environment is very inviting, depending on your mood. Typical burger place with your TVs of news and sports, very open area inside for seating and a great outdoor patio with live bands. I got the sliders and my boyfriend got the macho nacho burger. Not dissapointed, fries were my favorite-nice and crispy with a hint of seasoning. Also a very nice selection of beer and great happy hour specials. Will definately be back!

Previously I gave this place 3*.  Now I'm pleased to say, I can move that up to 5*.  I have been coming here since Day One.  Today they were celebrating their first anniversary.  What a change there has been in those first 12 months.
The thing I like most is that where there were things that weren't quite right (like the food in the early days), the management have listened, learned and changed.
There is still the great beer selection there always was, but there are now a lot more TVs, a pool table, really good live bands and geeks quiz night.

But more than anything, the food is now WAY better than it was.  Last night I had the ribs from the new menu.  HUGE rack of ribs.  Smoked in-house, served with a mountain of fries.  The quality and meatiness of the ribs beats anything available locally. Very reasonably priced too.  My wife's sausage sampler plate looked very good too.

So, all in all, a great improvement.  If you tried this place before and were disappointed, give it another go.

The food is good, the live music (Sticky Notes) was really good last night.

BEWARE - YOUR VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED IF YOU PARK BY THE HOTEL NEXTDOOR. ($180), so please try and find a space at the Alehouse lot.

NOTE: The disturbing and creepy picture of chicks above the urinals has evidently been taken down.  Thank god.

Service: very perky waitress got lost several times on the way to the kitchen, distracted perhaps by something shiny.  We flagged down another waitress with some success.

Food: as explained by many other Yelp users, small and very fried.  Unlike other Yelp users, our experience wasn't terrible, just not amazing either.

Atmosphere: Lots and lots of TVs.  It's a sports bar.

Summary: Might come back but definitely wouldn't eat here.  I don't want heart disease.

I've stopped in here a couple of times with friends when I'm up in the northern land, and it isn't terrible. The food is decent - you'll get what you expect from the typical bar. I was a fan of their green chile fries, but alas.. it's gone off the menu.

What is notable about this place is the beer selection. They've got lots of local breweries on tap, which I'm a fan of! I'm always happy to see Circle Brewing on tap (especially after our Yelp Elite beer tasting last year!).

The layout of the place is good too - the inside is spacious, but echoey. The patio is pretty great, though, and has heaters and fans, as well as a big TV.

The worst part? Hmm. I'd say it's location. It's not a terrible location, but it's kind of out of the way and not super easy to get to.

Pretty cool place when you walk in. It did take about 15 minutes to get a drink. It took 45 minutes for the food. Service wasn't that great. Seemed understaffed. Took another 15 minutes to get our check. Too bad the service isn't that great, bc the food was great. Matt's Famous Grilled Cheese is a great choice.

Nice patio area.  They had a live band and a crawfish party which all was good.  The service was okay but I was a bit taken aback when I found they only serve 5 beers in a bucket instead of 6.  Overall I would come back again.

Service seems friendly here, but did drop off towards the end while waiting for our check. Food was okay, nothing to go out of our way for. Had the Reuben, and wife had the patty melt. I asked for onion rings, they brought out regular fries. I had to wait an additional 10 minutes for my onion rings so I was unable to enjoy them with my sandwich. They did leave me with the regular fries which tasted like they had been previously frozen, and once the onion rings did come out, they were unseasoned and extremely full of grease. Would I come back? Maybe with a coupon and during happy hour. I always give a place a second try, but this place needs to improve there food quality real quick. It's a shame too since next door at La Margarita we love it there, and the same owners own the Westside Alehouse.

Passing by we stopped in.  I was so hungry.  I had been wanting to check this place out.  The service was great.  Our server, Courtney was great.  She kept coming over to check on us.  The manager or whoever came by to check on us.  They said farewell when we left.  The food and drinks were great.  This place is like a museum.  You just gotta see for yourself.

I tried the Scotch Egg because I never heard of such a thing - it was VERY BAD.  The outer shell was much like the shell of a giant jawbreaker, only it tasted like ancient burnt leather.  The sausage inside this fried casing was dry and just shy of completely disgusting.  Then there was the boiled egg in the middle.  I never thought you could wrong with a boiled egg, but apparently they can be over-boiled.  The Scotch Egg, which was supposed to be an appetizer, but it came out after our food.  For my main course, I had a bacon cheeseburger - it was a very, very sloppy - there was more cheese and bacon than meat, and the bacon soggy, not crisp.  The bun was so logged with bacon and cheese grease that it just fell apart when I tried to pick it up to eat it - you almost have to eat this burger with a fork!  The meat quality seemed above average, but it was bland as if they did not season it at all.

The service was quite dismal.  Our waitress never asked us how anything was because after our food was served, she disappeared for a long time.  We had finished eating and it was a good 15 minutes before our waitress reappeared with our check, never asking us if we needed anything else.  I had to tell her to take that Scotch Egg off my bill before she walked away with my card and she (no any manager) ever asked if there were any problems.  If this place did not have an awesome bar and drink selection, it would probably already be out of business.

The only place in town that didn't have over a 30-minute wait on a Saturday night gave our family no choice but to check out this joint. The service was friendly but I was extremely disappointed on the extreme limitations of the menu. They barely had anything listed. I was hoping for more bar-like food with some burgers, sandwiches, ribs, and a couple choices of steaks. Only Ribeye 10oz is available, no ribs, very limited selection of sandwiches, and two choices of hamburgers.

At no surprise to me, the kids menu is seriously lacking as well. I did use the Yelp deal and paid $10 to get a $20 voucher for food, so that knocked an additional $10 off our bill, which upped this review to three stars. This place was ok and in a bind, we might end up going there again.

Nice place and the outdoor area was really cool, so I really wanted this place to be good.

Service was horrible, 0 stars horrible, Waitress lost our order, then I had to get up and go track her down because the second order never came out.  They said it was coming.

Then my wife had to get up again and go find our order because the third try never came out.

Wish I could tell you it was amazing when it finally came.  While I was there two tables walked away.

I'm completely on the fence about this place.

The beer lover in me enjoys Westside Alehouse.
The food lover in me wants to dropkick a chinchilla.

Pretty decent beer selection with a modest number of seasonal selections. Kudos to the staff. Our waitress was attentive and above all...knowledgeable about the beers. This may seem like a no brainer, but it's been my experience that most places that serve a fair amount of craft beers typically have little to no knowledge. Our server was well educated on the beers they served as well as the actual breweries. THAT was a plus for sure.

The food was a disappointment. We started with a couple apps. The apps were great. Jalapeno chips and fried pickles. These should also be no brainers, but it's amazing how many places around town manage to f these up. Westside's versions were freshly battered. Both were generous servings with very light batter. These were the highlight of the food. I ordered the Heart Attack with Cheese. Description reads...

"Bacon, bacon, and more bacon! Served...tons of cheddar cheese oozing out of the burger...."

Now...reading this, one would expect a shit ton of bacon and a burger stuffed with cheese. Not the case. A meager 3 slices of bacon and overcooked burger topped with cheese. No cheese oozing out of anywhere. The meat to bun ratio was sad. There was about 30% of unused bun space. The bun was dry and non-distinct. Misleading and disappointing.

Their saving graces are a well educated staff, a great outdoor space...which is dog friendly (a definite plus) and a pretty solid beer selection with great nightly specials.

It's likely I will be back. I'll just stick to liquid nourishment...

I tried this place tonight and I have to say the burgers are worth it.  The regular fries are pretty good too,  but the sweet potato fries were amazing.  Simply the best I have tried in town to date.

So my review might be a little harsh, but my rule to judge a place based on it's food, no exception, so my 2 star review might be a little high in that case.  The food was very bland, and always has been under cooked, and got served some raw chicken there once.  It has not feeling of being homemade, and really all feels pre-made.  There was nothing about anything I ate that did little more then make me feel less hungry, not a steller review of the food.

It does get NFL Sunday ticket and has plenty of good TV's to watch the game.  With that, the prices are good enough, and have a good enough beer section in Round Rock to watch a good football game now and then if your not planning on eating.  I want to like it more, I think the outside deck, and clean lines inside could make this a cute place to eat, but as of now, the food does not warrent a solid review.

Have to shake my head at some of these negative reviews, especially from the folks that are expecting Beer Drinking 101 courses upon entry. Hint: If you don't know the difference between a Wit and an IPA, Google is your friend...

Okay, on to my review. The wifie and I dined here last night, on a LivingSocial deal from back in August. I had a couple of beers, Real Ale and 512, because I love the local breweries. She had the Shiner Cheer, which reminded me that Shiner makes Bock, and a lot of other crap beers. We had the sauerkraut balls for an appetizer, which were okay. Nothing wrong with the preparation, just not crazy about them. My wife ordered a cheeseburger, and I had the Macho Nacho burger. Both came with fries, so don't know if this is a change, as I read an earlier review that said fries were extra. The food was pretty good, burgers tasted fresh and buns didn't get soggy. Service was fine and attentive.

The only reason(s) for the drop of a star are the menu and the parking lot. The menu could have a bit more diversity, besides what seems like a preponderance of burgers. Not a big deal, but thought I would mention  it. The parking lot is kinda small, with signs all over that say if you parked in the hotel parking lot, you will be towed. I didn't know the place is owned by the same folks that own La Margarita next door, so I assume I could have parked in that lot, which had plenty of places.

We'll be back, which is what a business wants, right?

I took the whole fam here with a groupon or living social or somesuch. My burger was good, but not that good. Unremarkable, if only because metro Austin is wealthy with superior burger places. I got a sampler of in-house brews, which were also good, though not great. I was much more impressed with the offerings at BJ's.

The restaurant is a steel building, and you are constantly aware of it. Serious efforts have been made to soften and personalize the atmosphere, but it comes off like a speakeasy temporarily set up in Old Man Tucker's barn.

The service sucked something wicked. On the two occasions our server was actually present (taking order and delivering order), he was quite friendly. Easy to pull off when total facetime was under a minute. I had to get up and find him on several occasions -- more drink, more ranch, check -- because he straight up disappeared. I even had to pay our bill at the bar after waiting 10 minutes for him to reemerge from the kitchen.

If I had a free pass I'd go again. Otherwise ...

Blech.  I expect super greasy pub food when I go to a nasty, greasy pub.  Makes sense right?  So getting a meal that could charitably be described as "greasy enough to take a few months off your life by itself" in a new place that's bright and shiny was a little disappointing.

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon, place wasn't crowded but we still had lousy service, our waiter seemed more interested in talking with his coworkers at the bar.  Besides swimming in grease, the food wasn't terribly bad but it had definitely taken a while to get out to us, was tepid by the time it hit the table.  And getting drinks refilled in a timely manner was a forlorn hope.

It's still somewhat early in the place's lifetime and maybe it was just a bad day.  It's too nice a place to make me think my experience was the best they could offer.

And on a totally unrelated note:  the picture above the urinal in the men's room is hysterical.  Was literally heading in there to wash my hands, of the grease and the entire experience, and that thing?  Laugh out loud funny.

I have been here 4 or 5 times now and I like it overall. I like the wait staff and their service, I like the burger. The deserts are fine as well.  I don't drink beer but they have a wide selection and my friend like it, so you might it as well. The outdoor patio is large and has a place for bands to perform. It is well covered with large Oak trees. So over all I recommend it.

But there are two food items that I did not like but I am sure most of you will like them.  I did not like the fries (but I don't like fries much of anywhere anymore) or the onion rings.  I ordered the beer battered onion rings and when they arrived the smell was so bad I had to have them removed from my table, don't know what the problem was.

    Would I go back?  Yes!

I've read others reviews of Westside Alehouse and I'm honestly perplexed. The main point of contention is the food. I've had a burger and fries as well as fish and chips are both were fine. This definitely isn't a gastro pub like Black Star Co op but I live nearby and when I want a beer this is where I go.

I think the place has great potential but the food reviews seem harsh. Over time i hope the owners and staff can respond to customer feedback but I come here for the beer selection first and foremost. I've considered that part of the issue might be that the beer selection is so good people expect More out of the food than they normally would.

The staff has been inordinately friendly and I'm not sure I've Ever been into a bar where the staff was so friendly I felt like they could come sit and drink a beer with me while we talk. They genuinely seem to be down to earth nice people and enjoy serving patrons.

I've not visited the outside portion where music is played but the place has great potential overall for Round Rock. There are pool tables, lots of nice Tv's to watch what you choose and overrall I think a little bit of something' for everyone.

I think of the place as a sports bar with a nice selection of beers. Consumers in Round Rock might be looking for a family friendly environment which I don't think it is particularly.  I like the place and intend on continuing to visit for the beer and friendly staff.

I gave it three stars simply because they have brought a great beer selection to an area of town that desperately needed it. Because of that reason alone I can't give them less than three stars.

However, there is so much to improve on:
    1) The food is average. While the taps feel very "Austin" - the food feels a little more corporate.
    2) If they are going to be carrying all these good beers they need bartenders who actually know something about beer. Our bartender openly admitted that he only drank Lonestar or beers like that. Then tried to act like he knew something about the beer - which just made him look silly. Please, please, please hire some beer nerds to work behind the bar so we can come in and have some great beer and actually talk to someone who knows something about those beers. The staff, while very nice and helpful, seems extremely uneducated about much of the product they are selling.

I will certainly go back again, but I will eat beforehand and bring a beer nerd friend with me.

First and foremost, I went here for the beer.  We've been 3 times now, just to try to give it a fair chance, and experienced both the food and the beer, so I now feel like I can speak a little about both.

The food is, at best, mediocre.  We have had the appetizers and a few entrees, and really the food has been hit or miss.  A few of the items have been really good, and given me hope that they have the potential to make good bar food (the jalapeno coins are a good example of this), but too many of the things we have been ordered have just been badly conceived, badly cooked, or both.  The prices of the food are high, and when you have a better than 50% chance of getting something that isnt good, thats not a good thing.  If you are looking for good bar food, this might not be the place.

Lots of reviews talk about how great the beer selection is here, but I disagree.  Yes, they have 51 taps or whatever, but those 51 taps are generally either mainstream crappy beers (sorry, Bud light lovers) or basic offerings from craft breweries.  Its good to see them with a good selection of local breweries, but they don't rotate the taps, so every time I go there its the same beers over and over again.  No seasonals, no special casks, no exclusives.  If you're not used to good beer bars, this place might be fine, but it can't hold a candle to places in Austin like Flying Saucer, Draft House, and Black Star, or even fellow RR resident Home Field.

They are what I would call a "basic beer bar" which is fine for lots of people, but I'm looking to find new/unique/special beers on a regular basis, and this isnt the place for that.  The staff also knows almost nothing about beer.  I have asked several questions about different beers, and the answer has always been "I dont know" or "I havent worked here that long."  No offer to actually find out the answer, which is a bad sign for an alehouse.

Finally, if eating around people who are smoking bothers you, don't go here and sit outside.  Despite the fact that there is a big sign outside saying that there is no smoking on the patio, lots of people smoke out there, and the staff does nothing to stop it.  I emailed the management about this, and was basically told that I should say something if it bothers me.  Its not my job to enforce the law, its theirs, and if they're not interested in doing so, and ensuring the comfort of their patrons, then I'll take my business elsewhere.  Honestly, if you want good food and a good beer selection in Round Rock, just go to HomeField.  You'll thank me later.

Man, you guys are being HARD on this place. Does it need some work? Yeah. It does. But seriously, what were you expecting?  A fine dining restaurant?  Romantic ambiance?  It's a freaking ale house.....didn't you check out the name of the place before you went?

This place has 51 beers on tap, not just your usual possum piss lite beer, but really good beer. They are supporting local breweries by having them on tap (512, Adelberts, Independence, Live Oak, etc.).  They have 60 inch TVs mounted all over the place so you can watch sports in HD while you enjoy your beverage. There is a covered patio outside. The bartenders are super friendly.  Yes, they are young and joke around a little too much for some people. Get over it. Again, if you want professional bartenders and waiters, go to Eddie Vs or Perry's or something.

I only had the jalapeño bottle caps to eat, which were mediocre. But I didn't come expecting super good food, that will come with time as the manager and cooks get feedback and experience.

Look, this place isn't a chain. It offers great beers. It has a pretty good atmosphere. It's an absolute win for Round Rock. Be patient with them as they grow in the food and service department. As an Ale House, which is what this is, this place delivers beautifully. Glad it's here.
