I love the beer and I think the bar is amazing, but I needed to complain about their kitchen. I ordered take-out which was then not ready when we picked it up. The order was confirmed by phone and then they claimed that they never received the order. Okay, then can we place it now? Â Nope, kitchen's closed. Oh, well.
I understand things happen and all, but this was so absurd. I wasn't even going to complain, but there are too many positive reviews so I thought I'd just throw in my two cents.
The Rover is easily Manchester's best bar. They have much better than average pub food which when combined with the best service in the city make this my go-to bar. The wings are good. The Reuben is excellent. They have changing food specials that are great. Â Wash it down with the best Guiness in Manchester. Or grab a tall boy of 'Gansett (New Englands most underrated beer). There's no gimmicks. It's everything you want your Irish bar to be. It's never pretentious. It's consistent. I have a great time every time I'm here. Unlike the other places in Manchester, this place feels real. The other places try so hard to create atmosphere. The Rover has it without ever trying to. It has that geat pub feeling we all love.
Review Source:Top notch place to go. Â This bar has a great atmosphere, good food, and they know how to pour a beer. Â I went here twice in the same day. Â I wanted to try other places, but it called me back for dinner. Â I had two outstanding meals and even though it is heavy on the Boston Red Sox garb, I as a Yankee fan still felt comfortable and love this place. Â The place is clean, on point with the food, and the service is top notch. Â The wings were excellent, Irish potato skins are excellent, outstanding Bison Burger, and the Bangers are banging. Â I researched many other pubs and I wanted to visit them, but like I said, this place called me back because it is great.
Review Source:Cannot be more thrilled to have discovered this pub. Â The place has the intimate, cozy feel of a dive bar, but it is well maintained and clean. Â As a frequent bar guest, I can recognize clean lines and taps, and this place keeps them immaculate, a huge plus for a place that boasts a wide variety of 20 plus draft beers. Â The prices are also very down to earth, and every day they offer a different discount special on both food and spirits.
The whisky selection here is fantastic, fitting of an establishment claiming to be an authentic Irish style pub. Â As a general whisky enthusiast, I can testify to the fact that Black Bush is a rare find, however here it is just one of many spirits offered from the emerald isle. Â They carry the entire line of Beam premium bourbons(Knob, Booker's, Baker's, Basil Hayden), along with Buffalo Trace, Maker's standard and 46, Woodford Reserve, and more. Â Their scotch selection is also extensive
I didn't have a chance to delve thoroughly into the menu, but the clam chowder was outstanding, and the pub fries were hand cut and made fresh, which was definitely reflected in the final product. Â Rarely does a menu item as simple as pub fries warrant praise, but such is the case at Rover's.
Finally, a unique plus about this place: Â it is a PERFECT soccer pub. Â They carry all the games from Europe, and the bartender is an enthusiastic fan who always has the game on. Â I only discovered Wild Rover's because I was looking for a place to watch Chelsea's latest Champion's League match, and even though the barman is a rabid Man U fan, he did all he could to accommodate me. Â The Blues won with a goal in stoppage time, but I would have had a great time watching the game even if they hadn't.
Top shelf stuff here. Â I will definitely be back, even though Rover's is a bit out of the way for a MA resident. Â I can't wait to explore the menu further!
We roamed up this way, in our eternal quest for the perfect Kitchen table. Â Alas, we did not find it; but we found this joint. Â Huzzah!
Since we were early diners, we took advantage of the discount beer, and 1/2 price appetizers. Â So it was cheap, for excellent wings.
It was also verrrrry good. Â Get the Bangers and Champ. Â Don't argue with me, either.
Our waitress was busy, but efficient, and friendly. Â
Great joint.
"The Rover" (as it's most commonly referred to) is the best Irish pub on a Polish Street in a Greek town. Â It's also a staple 'go to' place for my wife and I, and has been for almost a decade.
It is a pub split exactly in half with one side for dining service while the other half is a bar. Â We usually go and share an app and enjoy a few drinks, although recently have taken advantage of their Tuesday night special - buy one entree and get the second free, and I've also done the same for lunch.
Where this place is most known and enjoyed for the lively bartender and Beantown sports fans, the food cannot be overlooked. Â Aside from standard, but really solid pub fare (nachos, wings, burgers, etc) a few highlights are: their homemade blue cheese dressing, their french onion soup, their famous "nacho crusted" chicken sandwich, the shepherd's pie, and usually whatever they have on special.
The service has also always been very friendly and attentive. Â
Drinks are more expensive than other places in town, but I've never left concerned about that. Â It's worth it.
Honestly, I feel badly. Â This review should have been written a long time ago. Â This bar is not far off from Elm Street at all, but I always seem to let it slip my mind when thinking about the Manchester bar scene.
My wife and I have recently started frequenting this bar. Â I've yet to try the food, but so far the staff is friendly and professional, the music has been decent, and there are free peanuts. Â The draft selection is decent enough, and they have pitcher specials during sports games.
This is one of the few bars I've been to where the other patrons are friendly. Â I'm not a super social individual, but the few people who have talked to me here seem nice enough. Â
This establishment has a great atmosphere and is my new favorite in the Manchester bar scene.
I'm not normally all that into pubs since they usually don't have much character or originality, but this place had a really cool vibe. The bartenders made me laugh. They called out some guys that were heckling a couple of people my fiance and I met that night.
I felt an at ease and fun atmosphere, and you'll definitely meet high quality people here. Id choose this place instead of some of the more crowded bars around Manchester any day. If you're the type that likes to go out and be seen, go to strange brew. But if you just want a few drinks and a chill pub to enjoy them out, come here.
Good pub. Â I was here on a Wednesday from 6:00-7:30 PM. Â There were probably 10 regulars there. Â Only annoying thing was the bartender kept singing along (very loudly) with the jukebox, trying to promote a raucous party atmosphere in the bar, I suppose. Â I can imagine this place would be quite crowded on a Fri/Sat night.
Review Source:Enjoy it as a bar, prices are not bad, and atmosphere is nice. Not too "gross and rundown" like some places I have been but no "expensive swanky place."
I have not always received the most friendly service from the waitresses when only getting drinks in the restaurant portion of the place.
The one thing I might complain about is that when they have a live band playing it is so loud to the point that you can't really converse with friends, but I suppose most places with live music will have this problem.
I have been numerous times for drinks but finally had dinner here. It was a Wednesday night and not that busy.
Ordered potato skins for appetizers which were less skins and actually wedges smothered in cheese, irish bacon (aka ham), and broccoli. I loved that it had a veggie on it but others at the table did not. Also ordered a cup of French Onion Soup which was delicious although a tad salty.
For dinner I had the Bishop Wrap which I give a thumb up. It had a good combo of flavors and not too much dressing in it. The only thing is I wish the menu explained that it had red onion in it (didn't mention onions at all) because I strongly dislike red onions so I was forced to pick them out which was annoying.
The Husband had a buffalo tender wrap which he said was good, but you can't really screw up buffalo. They're fries are on the thicker side but nothing special.
One friend had the bison burger, first time she ever had bison but thought it was good and moist.
Other friend had blackened chicken mac and cheese. He approved of it for the most part but didn't like how the chicken pieces were very small therefore the dish barely had any chicken on it.
Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner and will return to try some of the other items on there menu.
Yup. It's a pub.
NECN voted The Wild Rover as the "best Irish Bar in New England," so of course we had to check it out,,,,
The outside of this place instantly transports you from Manchester, NH across the pond where life is just....different. Â The inside has natural brick walls, a decent sized bar and a medium sized dining area.
We took advantage of the recession-busting prices with the 1/2 priced apps and 1/2 priced drafts (I think there are15 beers on draft, mostly the usual suspects). Â The wings are pretty decent; good amount of meat on the bone and a hot (but not too hot) sauce.
The Wild Rover burger was smothered in caramelized Guinness onions, mushrooms and curry mayo. I added ketchup to the burger, which was probably a mistake because it didn't mix well with the mayo. The fries are the shoestring type - I prefer them a little thicker with a big hearty burger.
My wife got the Wild Rover wrap; turkey with avocado, lettuce, and again the curry mayo. The curry mayo gave the wrap a smokey flavor which was different (a little overwhelming) but still good. The onion rings were thick battered and good!
2 beers, app, burger and wrap was $34. Thanks Wild River!!
Best Irish pub in the Manchester area.
They have a good selection of beers on tap, Irish music on random nights and even thought it is a little small it usually (aside from St. Patrick's Day) isn't too packed.
The bar tenders are really friendly but be warned if you are a Yankees fan (why one would be, I have no idea....) the bartenders are fierce Sox fans and you may actually not get served if you have a Yankees hat on.
Food wise they are pretty good with the fish and chips being excellent.
Also nice that you can find the rugy world cup and six nations games on the TV's when the time rolls around
They know how to pour a proper pint of Guinness to boot...
Just an update to say I'm even in more in love with The Wild Rover. Tuesday nights: from 8pm onward, ladies get half off drinks. Plus, after 4pm, dinners are BOGO.
Their Kinsale Fish and Chips are divine. They are the closest match I've found to the fish and chips I had in London. $12 isn't a bad price, either!
Plus, if you need a little something sweet, you can stumble over to the Red Arrow Diner just steps away for a slice of pie.
Yes, people, it's a pub. However, since no one else is really touching the food aspect I'm going to jump right in!
This is where we ate our Wedding Night dinner. Yep. It's true!
Favorite starters:
French Onion Soup-absolutely amazing and authentic flavor.
Homemade Onion Rings-crispy and  perfectly battered & fried.
Wild Rover Buffalo Wings: sooo good!
Favorite Entrees:
Shepherd's Pie-made the "right way", enough said.
Grilled Irish Bangers-authentic sausage and yummy onions caramelized in Guinness.
Dublin Burger-so good with curry mayo, Guinness onions, Irish bacon, and Irish cheddar.
There are daily lunch specials from 11:00am-2:30pm. Some examples from today: corned beef brisket sandwich on pretzel bread with chips ($6.99), beef tenderloin alfredo with garlic bread and salad ($9.99), Chef's New England Chowda (cup $2.99 & bowl $4.99) with lobster, scallops, and little neck clams.
I am looking forward to trying the drunken raspberry duck for dinner soon!
"I'm proud to call the Wild Rover our local," my British boyfriend said. Â 2 Sundays a month, we walk from our house in Manchester to the pub for a couple of pints and usually a bite to eat. Â There's usually a European sport playing in the bar area, and the bar tender takes only seconds to acknowledge you and ask, "What'll it be?" Â The menu is simple, but the food is fresh, unprocessed and their specials are consistently tasty. Â I haven't had a bad meal there, not that I go for the food... Â The Rugby on Sundays draws a great, welcoming crowd and you're more than welcome to sit back and observe or yell at the screen every now and again. Â All in all, the Rover's been there forever because they're doing it right.
Review Source:I don't live in Manchester, but the local minor league team, the NH Fisher Cats, are our fave team. We live about an hour away. Â We have a season mini-plan. Â So we show up at the Rover before or after any Sunday home games. Â The food is great, the bartenders are friendly, what more can you want?
The Rover is part of why we return to Manch for games, year after year!
i like it here most of the time. they have a consistent buffalo chicken wrap. also, my husband swears by their wings.
i could do without the shelling peanuts thing, it makes for a messy floor by 1am on friday night when you're strolling out half lit and slide like a cool kid right into the 50 year old man who tried to pick you up all night.
If I lived in Manchester, this is definitely a place I'd hang out. Â Low-key and casual, beer drinkers and laughter, I'm all for it. Â I came here with a friend at the end of the night 12:40 after barhopping, and I wished we'd spent the whole night here. Â Reminds me of my favorite bars in Boston, and back home in Upstate NY.
Review Source:An Irish themed pub that doesn't overwhelm you with how Irish it is, I would say. Â A nice place to stop for a pint. Â The food is pretty good, and there are a couple of unique menu offerings that are definitely worth trying. Â The food and some of the wait staff has potential to be hit and miss though, and that is the only real drawback.
Review Source:I don't really go for Irish-themed bars but this one was pretty sweet. Â A smaller sort of place- but keeps it packed and lively. Â Outdoor tables and seating keep the area festive. Â There's no other bar or restaurant nearby but there's enough people to keep this place in action during a Saturday night.
Review Source:What I would call the definition of a dive bar is another man's treasure. My friends LOVE this bar... WHY?? Sure they hand out bowls of peanuts whose shells end up strewn across the floor and inside is darker than dark. Maybe I could get used to it? They go to cheer for their beloved RedSox games in loud uproars of "YEA!" and "BOOs", and I just go to hang out. The crowd is a good mix and their bathrooms aren't disgusting. Beer is about $4.50.
Review Source:My buddies and I sometimes stop at the Rover on the weekends. The food here is solid and very good. I enjoy the Kinsale Fish & Chips and Salmon. Thyey offer some good daily specials. On my last visit, I had the Baked Stuffed Trout (with crabmeat stuffing) which was excellent. The Rover has the bar room (not very big) on the right and the dining area to the left. In the bar area, the place is very packed in standing room only on Friday and Saturday nights. The bar offers several beers on tap or in bottle, mixed drinks & non-alcoholic drinks for the "DD." This is a good place to hang out, have some drinks, and people watch in close quarters. The place closes at 1 AM.
