Stayed at the hotel 01/25. Wanted to take my mom and my dear husband to this restaurant (he LIVES FOR steak, but we rarely go out to a steak house because I am not a fan of steak and I can't cook a steak, especially his medium-rare way for the life of me). So, we went here for dinner. I will start with the goods:
1)They have a super thin bread thing which tasted of herbs and parmesan cheese. WHOA. I could've just eaten that and be fine, lol.
2)we were seated promptly. (Then again we had reservations and arrived on time).
3)My husband loved his prime rib
4)My seafood was fresh
5)My mom liked her chicken/crab pasta dish (she is a tough cookie to please!)
Here come the negatives:
1)Upon our arrival, the hostess said a booth would take 15 mins. We settle for a table (upon walking to our table, WE WERE RIGHT NEXT TO AN EMPTY BOOTH!!!!) maybe they were reserving it for a celebrity, NOT.
2)our server was so slow. She was very nice, but barely came around. We felt neglected. We would double up our requests because we knew we wouldn't see her for a while (i.e. we asked to wrap up the leftovers and at the same time asked for the check). Well, that's not a total lie because she came around really quickly when we paid the check (WITH CASH). Go figure.
I am glad my husband was in heaven and our seafood was fresh. But the snotty neglectful service I paid IN CASH FOR, I could have done without.
One of the best values in fine dining. Lobster macaroni and cheese, calamari and escargot favorite appetizers. My knowledgable wine friends say wines are great, I stick with KJ Chardonnay. I have never had a bad entree and the Australian twin Lobster tails with melted butter for dunking; dream worthy. Usually too full for dessert. Oh, good old fashioned warm bread basket with delicious homemade paper thin flat bread. Patrick, the manager, keeps the place vibrant. Never met the Chef but he is Excellent. Terri is our favorite server and all the staff super friendly and knowledgable. Being from Chicago, the value here is tremendous to all "foodies"
Review Source:The Service was the star. I was extremely impressed throughout the night. The food is another story. A few bad things, but overall not terrible. Definitely nowhere near the quality for the price we paid.
Our server was very attentive and also a great salesman! Don't forget that this restaurant and most restaurants similar to this are completely a la carte. We realized this and planned on ordering one side to share. When we ordered our entrees our server asked us what sides we would like in a way which seemed implied it came with one. We were duped! After we confirmed with our server it was indeed a la carte, we canceled one of our three sides, which were all large enough for three generous individual portions.
Our server suggested the chicken & rice soup and I bit. It was horrible. Literally no chicken and was embarrassingly bland. Our server apologized for the missing chicken, he said he forgot to add it. He offered to make it right, but I just wanted it gone at that point, so it was removed from the check.
We both shared the Crab Cake appetizer, it was very good. It was two smaller sized crab cakes, but it was perfect for two people. I thought the palate cleanser (a light, fruity sorbet) was a nice touch. It was brought out after the appetizers were cleared.
We were in a steak house so we both ordered steak. I had the 14 oz New York Strip for $39 and my lovely lady had the 7 oz Filet for $35. Both steaks were good, but we've both had better. Both a little on the bland side but the temp was spot on.
We both shared two sides: Potatoes Au Gratin and the Creamed Spinach. The potatoes were my favorite dish of the night. Incredible flavor and actually a bit spicy. Loved it. The Creamed Spinach was far too salty and far too creamy. The amount of cream almost ruined it, but we just worked around the soup-ish areas.
I probably wont be back. The Blue Chip is a pretty dated and tacky casino in general, I'd rather drive a few more miles to Four Winds in Michigan. Sorry, William B's, but Four Winds has a better Steak House, too!
Stayed here the day before a wedding for a mancation. Ate the swordfish and it was delicious. After eating the fish I went back to my room to get something before heading to the casino. Good thing I did. I got a phone call and was talking for a few minutes. After I got off the phone I started to feel bad. About five minutes later I was on the toilet and it was not good. After, I was thinking that the food came out really quick so it must have been frozen. Don't know how fresh it was. Bad times!!!!!!!
Will never eat there again
Couldn't have had a better experience. Started off at the bar with Donovan as our bartender! Could not have had a better experience. Then  the rest of my
Party arrived and he made sure we were taken care of in the dinning room. Once in the dinning room Barbra took excellent care of us. Food/service was phenomenal. Donovan really went above and beyond!
I went there with my girlfriend while we stayed at Blue Chip's hotel. Â I am not a gambler but my girlfriend got me to go based on the dining options. Â In all honesty, this place provided me with the most offensive dining experience i have ever had. Â
Their wine list is limited, however their prices on some of their higher end wines cannot be beat when compared to Chicago area steakhouses. Â They were selling a bottle of Caymus Reserve for $190. Â This is a lot to spend on a bottle, but given the fact that we would not be able to get that price at Chicago steakhouse, we decided to order it. Â
The server took our drink order and then left to get the bottle. Â She came back to our table and asked us if we were aware the bottle we just ordered was $190. Â We told the server we were aware and would still like to order it.
The server then returned, after a while, with a bottle of the lower tier Caymus (respectable, but nowhere close to a $190 bottle), not Caymus Reserve. Â The server displayed the bottle and I asked the server to check if they had Caymus Reserve. Â The server then went to the manager. Â The manager, on the phone at the time, told the server that is all they had. Â The server came back to our table, advised us this is all they had and that is what we would be having. We decided to decline the bottle of Caymus and go for one of the correctly labeled Silver Oaks. Â
Realizing that we were not happy, the manager sat with us for a little bit and discussed some exciting wines that they would be serving soon. Â The only thing the manager had to do was apologize, and that would have been fine. Â But there was no apology in trying to sell us a grossly overpriced bottle and hope we would be stupid enough not to notice. Â
The steaks were not that great and they do not have food runners, so the service is painfully slow. Â
Overall, a pretty horrible experience
William B's Steakhouse is positioned as the high end restaurant in the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, IN. It has a dark, cool, modern atmosphere that serves steakhouse fare that is everything you would see at a top steakhouse.
We tried it on Saturday but since we arrived at 8:00 pm with no reservation we were out of luck for a table in the dining room but were offered a res at 9:00 if we wanted. Instead we grabbed two seats at the bar where they offer the full menu and had a good dinner.
The host staff was nice and clear about expectations. However sitting at the bar it became clear that the bar staff with seniority were taking advantage of newer staff. The best example was when a bartender who showboated himself as an ambassador of the bar asked us if we needed anything. Then when I asked for some steak sauce he barked a loud order over us to a new bartender right in front of us who was was already slammed with order tickets to get us some steak sauce. Dats nize and klassy.
As for the food both my wife and I thought it was good. My wife had the lobster bisque which she thought was ok. It had good shellfish flavor but needed more bite from a dose of sherry. I had a Caesar salad which had two heads of Romaine lettuce with dressing, cheese crisps and the cheesy bread crumb which I thought was fresh and very good.
Apparantly there was another version of their Caesar where they char the lettuce on a grill first giving a smokey taste to the salad which sounded great to me but I guess the grilling beats up the lettuce making it less visually attractive than the regular version so wasn't on the menu but if it were I would definitely have ordered the more flavorful grilled Caesar. Â
For main courses my wife had the filet and I had the bone in ribeye. This is where Rudy the grill chef did a better job than a Mortons or Gibsons. Without me asking the steaks were cooked in what I've always heard of as Pittsburg style which means it has a crispy char on the outside but still being nicely pink and fully warm on the inside. This needs a hot grill and a high degree of accuracy to put them on and pull them off at just the right time. These folks did it right.
We skipped side dishes because that was going to be more than enough food but they did offer a lobster macaroni and cheese side dish which we heard afterward is fantastic. All in all William B's was a cool atmosphere definitely needing a reservation but offering good starters, sides and really well cooked steaks.
