This is a very large sports bar themed chain location. They specialize in wings, burgers and deep fried things.
I haven't been to a winking lizard in well over a decade. I found myself craving wings. I haven't had a really good wing in quite some time. I still haven't
The food is simply made to be mass produced. I didn't care for the jumbo wing they use. The skin doesn't get crisp and the meat is a bit off putting. The sauce was good and the fries were the best thing on the table.
The thing that raises this place up is the beer selection. Literally over 100. So many that our waitress didn't know what we were ordering. She asked us to give her the number next to the beer. Kind of like ordering strip mall Chinese food except with beer.
They have a live Iguana named Doug who lives here. He looked kind of dead, but that's what Iguana's look like 95% of the time.
Beer is 5 food and service is 2.
Someone needs to start a food revolution, "No More Frozen Food." Â However, without frozen food, the Winking Lizard would shut its doors. Â Our server was very nice but uneducated about the menu. Â When asked if the fries and/or the onion rings were fresh, she didn't know. Â She didn't offer to check but I placed my order with whichever one was made fresh. Â Well, neither were, so I took the fries. Â The burger page of the menu boasts, "Fresh, never frozen", so a burger was chosen. Â Well, the burger may not have been frozen, but the bun sure was. Â Both diners in my party received still frozen-in-the-middle buns. Â When asked if we could have different buns, the server actually had us pull the burger off of the bun and then took the buns back to the kitchen instead of just taking the entire plate. Â The greasy burger just laid on our cold plate until she returned with buns that were slightly toasted.
When will restaurants actually learn that it costs less to make fresh fries and onion rings than it does to order them in frozen? The fries were predictable as all frozen fries are.
Worth going back to this place? Â No. Â Worth trying out for the first time? Â Not when there are much better places in the area.
Of the locations I've visited in the Winking Lizard chain this one by far has the best patio! They also have the most TV's of any of the lizards I've been to...
Get here early on Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays or you'll never get a parking spot much less a table. It's proximity to the Lake Cable / Jackson Township crowd means this place gets packed!
Make sure you take your picture with the lizard next to the dinning room.
(If you're under 21, you wont be able to get a table here after 5PM without someone of legal drinking age. That goes for the dinning room and the bar.)
