An unassuming Dive type feel to this sports lounge in a small shopping center, which reminds me of Blue Note down Stevens Creek.
We walked in a Friday night after dinner at Omee J and struck with a live band playing and singing songs from the 50's. Very cool and made me want to dance and jive. Hahahah.
Drinks were super cheap! I got 2 shots of Jameson, a Jameson and coke, and a Cazadores shot for $23?! Say what!
Note: Check in and your first drink is 50% off! Which we used on our next tab.
I good sports bar, with multiple big screen TVs. Worth visiting in your visits to Santa Clara
That being said, Woodhams Lounge has recently RAISED PRICES sharply. Â Some Happy Hour prices have jumped 33% (a combination of increased pricing and smaller glasses), while evening prices have been raised almost 39% on wine. Beer prices have been raised, too. Â Pretty stiff price jumps during the heart of a recession. Â And the cost of living only went up 1.7% in 2012.
This lounge is tucked away in a little corner next to the same plaza as Omee J. Looks like crap from the outside especially with the unappealing 'WOODHAM'S SPORTS LOUNGE' sign... but the VIBE is always on point!
This place is fairly small; about 10-15 bar tops with a few tables scattered around the bar. There's also a stage for LIVE KARAOKE! Jukebox you can put money into and a pool table for $1/ea game (FREE ON MONDAYS).
The bartenders here are always so friendly and FULL of energy.
Check in and receive 50% off a drink :)
My review is for Saturday night karaoke, mostly.
I don't know if it is always like this, but I was really blown away by the talent level of the... performers? Am I really going to call them that? Well, yeah, I really have to.
You see, I am a better-than-average karaoke singer, but not so great that people who can't sing feel embarrassed to sing. Let's just say that if you don't have confidence in yourself, or if you actually just arne't that great at it, you probably want to find somewhere else that's more of a "have fun and be silly" place.
The thing is, not only were all the people I watched able to sing really well, almost all of them had some kind of routine or hand motions or something of that nature. It was actually quite mindblowing.
When I did get to the stage, I noticed that the speakers were entirely pointed outwards, meaning that you can't really hear the music when you sing and you can perhaps hear your voice more than you might like to! My group thought I sounded better than I myself did, and I don't think there were entirely being nice. I've been to other bar karaoke places where you can hear the music while singing, and I do prefer that setup.
Finally, the bartender (a short white girl with tatoos) belted out a Rod Stewart classic while running around the bar pouring drinks. That chick is badass and we probably all should have just given up after that!
I've been going to Woodham's for about 3 years and have always had a great time but since Amanda has taken ownership it's gotten even better. She's the best bartender I've ever had the pleasure of being served by. She serves a stiff drink, she knows how to make mixed drinks very well. She's attentive, friendly, welcoming and funny as hell. AND the lil lady can sing her ass off all while still pouring out drinks! Karaoke nights are so much fun, I live in Fremont and I still go out there just to see her and sing some songs from their great song collection.
I've even brought some of my local Fremont friends over to Woodham's and they love the bar but mostly they love Amanda and her awesome customer loyalty!
The first time I came here I was a bit sketched out by the looks of the place (it's like those bars you see in movies), but don't be!
After getting a drink with my friends and watching them pool, the place grew on me. It's a bit small, but cozy enough to sit at the bar with drinks and there's pool tables in the back. It's an intimate, laid back place nothing like I expected it to be when first coming in. To be honest, Â I was pretty intimidated.
Always opted for Jameson on ice here, mmm!
They have an awesome jukebox, interesting people and pool tables (FREE on Mondays!)
I've always left Woodham's with a story, the recent one having a winner from Garden City buying the whole bar a round of drinks- he instructed those who didn't put in an order would get a glass of milk.
Definitely a great place, with varying aged customers- it's interesting and makes for good fun!
The Woodhams is a nice, friendly, and safe place to visit. You can eat Japanese food next door (or get takeout and bring to the Woodhams with you) or a little Mexican food before you sit down to relaxing drinks and a jam at the Woodhams. Music is BACK!! Â The owner/bartender, Amanda is friendly, very attentive and makes you feel right at home. I visit usually for Friday nite jams and listen to great music.Glad to see the same good musicians returned and continue to support the bar. There aren't many safe, friendly neighborhood bars like this one. Drinks are inexpensive but good quality. Â Great diverse crowd of friendly people...young and older :-). Something for everyone.. And the bathrooms are CLEAN! Â I love the place.
Review Source:I love Woodhams! I've been coming here for a few years and have even spent some birthdays partying it up here. The owner/bartender, Amanda, is amazing! She'll make you a yummy drink while you gather up the courage to sing karaoke (karaoke nights are now Thursdays and Saturdays). They also have live jam nights...always a good time. I was there last night ringing in the new year with some great people (even got to witness a proposal). So what's your excuse?! Dust off that singing voice and get out there!!!
Review Source:Super friendly and fun. Live music with top local bands two nights a week (Friday and Sunday). It is hard to find a "rock" jam night in the South Bay area. Â You get to see the best rock and blues players in the south bay getting up to play. Â Karaoke the rest of the week (except Mondays). Â Great bartenders - Amanda and Cary are two of the best. Ken and Rosey, the owners, are usually there to greet you, and on live music nights Ken (who plays with the Megatones) often sits in on bass. Just a lot of fun.
Review Source:I love this place!!! Â Karaoke Tues-Wed-Thurs & Sat is great when you need a fix. Â Vinnie is the best KJ around and knows how to every singer sound great!
Amanda is an awsome bartender! Â She sings while making you one of the best cocktails you will ever have.
It's low key and a wide variety of ages .. Â go by and sing a song or two!!
While looking for a new karaoke bar I stumbled on Woodham's and immediately fell for the laid back feel, friendly kj's and cool bartenders. I like that it usually has a mellow but fun loving crowd and Amanda rocks at anything she does behind the bar. This has definately become my Saturday night spot.
Review Source:Awesome karaoke spot on Saturday nights! Â Vinnie, the Karaoke dj is one of the best in the bay and this might be my new favorite spot. It's small and assuming next to the Santa Clara Billards on busy El Camino.
Amanda behind the bar also sings and tried out for American Idol a few year's back. She was great to watch mutlitasking. She was singing and pouring drinks and dancing. Â A great and low key atmosphere. Â There are the typical gray hairs, but they have great voices! Â There were a coupld older gentleman that one would never think they could sing. When they got up and belted out some tunes, it was great.
Best part - popcorn for $1 a bag. Trust me. When you're hanging out there for awhile, you get the munchies. Â Two pool tables in back, decent bathroom and plenty of parking.
Only downside is the smokers literrally right outside the door. Can't wait to go back here again.
Dear Yelp Journal,
I'm an avid Karaoke singer, being Filipino, it's in my DNA. When a friend of mine suggested I meet her here, I was skeptical. Especially when the crowd was around twice my age, but my friends and I had an awesome time! There are pool tables located in the back, if you're waiting for your turn to sing. The song choices surprised me, especially a Japanese version of songs! The crowd is older, but everyone has fun good or bad singers welcomed! People here are very zealous about sharing their passion for singing! It was an interesting experience, out of the way for me, but I'd go back! You never know what kind of characters you will meet. Plus the eclectic mix of drinking, and singing is always entertaining; just watch out when people fight over the song books, it can get a little messy~! :)
PS It doesn't cost a thing to sing! But it might cost you to drink & sing :)
Best,
LeiLei
Woodham's is a great local spot if you're looking to enjoy a diverse crowd, Â cheap drinks, a fun staff, and great karaoke. I sang here for the first time and, while I was initially nervous, was greatly encouraged by the total lack of judgement from patrons and staff alike. I even wound up getting another song in before I had to leave!
Everybody wants a good time, and this is a great place to start. I'll be back for sure.
P.S. Some of the karaoke selections might surprise you.. I was certainly surprised to see Tool, Beck, Rocky Horror and Radiohead sharing pages with the more predictable stuff like Queen, Elvis, Johnny Cash, etc..
I admit, that I am biased to the K DJ. Â He's friendly and helps you out with what you need. Â Vinnie, has a following and the Bartender actually sings while serving drinks.
I hate to post this because I may get less and less turns for singing but until it gets too busy, this is the place to karaoke besides homestead lanes.
For Karoake lovers: Karoake night on Thursdays
For alcoholics: Come during happy hours
For entertainment seekers: Pool table towards the back side
Want some new drink ideas? Ask Amanda. She'll fix something good
There are plenty of parking spots. If you intend to drink then drive, stay away from Stevens Creek (Cop central)
Very dive spot. Check it out!
I have been looking for a cool Karaoke place to hangout and I think I have found the place.
At first I walked in here and I was like I don't know if this is my kind of crowd. I felt kinda out of place and the crowd seemed older, but as the night went on the place got packed and there was quite a diverse crowd. Once the first person got up and started singing Rock Lobster I began to enjoy myself. ROCK LOBSTER!!
I myself went up and sang some songs including We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel. I am pretty bad but people seem to enjoy the bad singers, I know I do. There was actually a good mixture of good singers and bad singers, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
The DJ is really cool and the girl bartender was awesome. She would sing as well and she would sing at the same time as she was mixing drinks! What that girl can multitask. I was impressed. They even had pool tables in the back which they let you play for free if you are buying drinks.
Me and my friends had fun and its great for people watching.
It is an older crowd but on Fridays they have decent blues/jazz bands. The bartender I dealt with is cool and nice to look at, even if she's married, but the people at the bar tend to be cool as well. More than happy to discuss the latest Sharks game or whatever happens to be relevant with a complete stranger. I will definitely go back including checking out one of their karaoke Thursday's. The worse the singers, the more entertaining I find it.
Review Source:Def was thinking... we look SO out of place here .... amongst the older crowd ... but soon realized ... this place is awesome.
Didn't stay too long .. enough to have 3 beers and play a few games. Â Tables are smaller than the standard size and you feed the table quarters to play. Â (That was new to me..) Â Bartender was friendly and quick on servicing. Â There's a $10 min charge on cards but that's ok...
Karaoke is awesome. Â The crowd is energetic and ready to have a good time. Â I met 2 girls while waiting for the restroom and had an interesting convo (not sharin this one...) before my song came on (Wanted Dead or Alive :P) ~~ OHHHH....you better believe we rocked out and the whole bar was singing + the 2 girls jumped in as back-up singers. Â
This place rules.
As Soon as I walked into this place I thought to myself turnaround and run!
This is not my type of hangout but my friends dragged me along because they said as long as you buy drinks you can play pool for free. I'm not the type of person that likes to spend money on games in which I suck at. I never  like to go to billiards because chances are i will hit the ball straight off the pool table into another person. Yes I have done that more than once.
As I walked I immediately noticed 3 charming men jamming and singing to oldies and 3 loner males staring me up and down at the bar.
I sat down next to 1 of 2 available pool tables. I ordered coffee with kahlua. The coffee here is really bad. I didn't finish my drink. Everyone else's drinks were fine.
As I won the first game of pool and sipped my crappy drink I listened to the guys sing Benny and the Jets and Your Song by Elton John. MAN.. I was having a DAMN GOOD time on a SUNDAY NIGHT!!! Then I won the second game of pool. Elena kept buying beef jerky sticks. It complimented the mood. So we shared a stick or two. Haha... We played for 4 hours.. Time goes by fast when you are having fun.
This place will always provide me with good memories. It is not my type of hangout but if you go with good company then it's all good. The cheap drinks, nice bartender, free pool, and live music was all in tune. Â OH and let's not forget the BEEF JERKY STICKS!!
3.5 stars
A Wednesday karaoke night drew my friends and I to Woodham Sport's Bar. Â We enjoyed the karaoke night and the lil dive bar atmosphere but I'm not sure I'd search it out again unless I was with those same friends. Â All in all however, it was a fun enough crowd.
Might see ya there.
This is a friendly neighborhood dive bar. The bartenders and owners are cheerful and engaging, if not particularly efficient. The regulars are a varied crowd, ranging from 20-somethings to septuagenarians, some single, some dating, some long-married. On the same night, you can hear Johnny Cash, Everlast, Metallica, David Bowie, and Nirvana. Simply put, this place reflects the diversity of the local homes and businesses.
While it's called a "Sports Lounge," you'll find much better sports coverage at bigger places like the Britannia Arms in Cupertino. (On the other hand, the Woodham's [sic] has two pool tables to the Brit's one.) Likewise, this is no beer mecca: There are only five or six taps, with everything else bottled. (On the other hand, you're in luck if you love PBR, since it's a favorite of one of the owners.) This is the kind of place that's all about lowbrow drinking, entertainment, and company, which is often exactly what I want.
The best time to visit the Woodham's is Blues Night (Friday after 10pm). Local musicians jam together and play blues & rock standards until closing time, with no cover charge. Saturday night karaoke is also pretty good, although the other reviewers' criticisms are well-justified. Both nights feature the lounge's star bartender.
Overall, I highly recommend the Woodham's if you live or work in the area. However, it doesn't have much to justify making a special trip, thus only four stars.
The ambiance was standard dive-fare. Â I thought the bartender was very nice and the crowd average.
The song choice was decent. Â The sound system pretty good considering the locale. Â The DJ (Danny Bonnaduce look-a-like) was a giant PITA. Â He didn't keep things moving along. Â He did too much talking/singing/showing off/acting like a child. Â There had to be 25 singers the night we went. Â He didn't need to keep the show going...the singers kept it going just fine. Â Good mix of good and less than good singers. Â Hey dude--shut the hell up and let the people sing karaoke and drink. Â That is what they came for ya' know.
I have been to this place on Fridays (live music) Â and Saturdays (karaoke night). The crowd is really friendly for the most part. For such a small unassuming place the singers were all really good. Â The bartendress is fantastic. She is nice, has a great voice and keeps pouring while she sings. The only bummer is that it the decor definitely needs a cleaning and an overhaul.
It's VERY casual. You can show up in your jeans and tshirt and not be out of place.
Karaoke here  on Thursday and Saturday. I checked in on a Thursday evening. It was relaxed, friendly, not crowded, some pretty good singers.
That night there was a cute-looking bartendress who also sang and was not shy about cheering the other singers on with some nice affirming full-throated karaoke war whoops.
The Karaoke show is run by "Avents" which seems to be something of a multi-venue, multi-host chain operation. I see them running shows in other places with the same standard selection of songs.
Good sized song selection
Good sound
