Woody's Village Saloon

Who are you to say that this bar is gross. Its not.  I have been going to Woodys for 10 years and i have never seen any coaster with mildew growing all over it. As to the menu advertising food there is a grill behind the bar.

The movie posters add nostalgia to the bar.

As for the balloons, it had nothing to do with theme, it was the owner's birthday, he enjoyed them and for the regulars they got the humor in them.

Every bartender that is employed here are as nice and friendly as you'll get. They are the best.

The regulars are proud of Woodys. It was in a movie, "Young Adult".

Being a Long Islander for my whole life, I have had time to work up quite the accent.  So visiting Woody's last night to see my friend's band perform warrants quite the exaggerated word of GA-ROSS!  The bar is a complete dive but not just a dive, its just nasty.  I am not sure what was going on with the bar but it was a mess, Flashlights, boxes upon boxes of stuff, old news papers and magazines.  It almost seemed as if the place had a flood and everything that was damaged on the floor, was piled up onto the bar.  

The place smelled moldy and the paper coaster the bartender gave me, had mildew growing all over it.  The cleanest part of the place was surprisingly the bathroom.  

The walls are covered with out dated movie posters and these tacky fake marble and gold plaques, with black and white photos of old TV shows like, "Car 54, Where Are You?"  There is a refrigerator and ice cream freezer along the wall, not in a back room or kitchen, just in the room.  They have a menu advertising food but there didn't seem to be a kitchen area. There were two large tables to sit at and the bar had plenty of seats.  Tied onto the each of the chairs, were mylar balloons, with sayings like
"Happy Birthday Grandma," "Happy 1st Birthday," and "Over the Hill."  I guess it was their attempt of humor?  If the place itself had a theme of some sort, this maybe funny and cute.  

My friend ordered a Raspberry Shock Top from the tap.  We all took a sip and it was rancid!  It tasted awful and was warm.  When I brought it back to the bartender and told her it tasted funny, she said "It's raspberry.  These are brand new taps so I don't see how it is bad."  She did replace it with something else.  The bartender seemed really annoyed just to be working that night.   I am sure the place does not get a crowd like it had last night, but because of the band it was packed.  I was glad I got to see the band play and they were amazing as usual, but  I wouldn't purposely come to Woody's.
