Hello yelpers.
Yes the food sucks - but this is a dive bar on the water. Get your priorities straight. This is an awesome bar with good drink prices and a fantastic view. There are only about 5 decent restaurants in all of Long Island anyway. If you want good food go home and cook it. Come to this bar for decent music, a cold one and a killer breeze. One of my favorite hidden spots. The people are all friendly and you can bring your dog.
This place would be a great place to hang out being it is on the water and has some great bands that play on the outside deck, BUT unfortunately, the food is HORRIBLE and the service is even worse than the food.
Here is my story.
We go to hear my friends band on a beautiful afternoon. The place is busy, but mostly with drinkers, not people looking to dine.
We sit at a table, it's just two of us. Waitress comes over, takes our drink order, brings our drinks and we order our food.
Waitress never returned for any reason while we were waiting for our food. Perhaps we need another drink, OR, PERHAPS WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE OUR FOOD IS. We sat for 30 minutes while watching our waitress bring drinks to this table and that table and never once did she think to come over to our table and tell us that our food would not only take the 30 minutes we had already waited, but another 15 minutes on top of that.
I waited 10 more minutes till I could not sit any longer. I go inside the bar and there is my cutesy waitress(Sharon) rubbing her back against the wall because she has an itch.
I proceed to ask her what happened to our food and she tells me it's coming out SOON. Soon was not good enough for me. She then tells me that they just brought a really big order out and now that that order is done, they are working on mine.
Well, I then ask her if she means the three lobster platters I saw her just bring out and she says, "yes". Three lobster platters warrants me to have to wait 40 minutes for my food when NO ONE else seems to be eating in this place? I don't think so.
After that STUPID comment, I had to ask a dumb question, hoping not to get a DUMB answer, but my hopes were let down.
I asked if they make one order at a time and guess what? The other waitress standing beside my waitress, said "yes".
If I ever have a big party, I want the cook of this establishment to work in my kitchen.
So eventually our food comes out, total wait of 45 minutes. If it wasn't for my friends band playing, I would have been long gone. You can get much better service AND food diagonally across the street at Giacomo Jacks.
She brings the food out which was the mini taco appetizer, a bacon cheeseburger and baked clams. We VERY SPECIFICALLY asked for all three things to be brought out TOGETHER. We also asked to NOT bring HOT SAUCE with the tacos as it stated on the menu with the mini tacos, we explained that we can't eat that kind of sauce and to bring out either salsa or some other kind of mild sauce to put on the tacos. We also specifically asked for extra lemon with the baked clams as well.
First we are brought the taco's and immediately I see hot sauce. The waitress tells me this is NOT hot sauce, trust me I tried it and it WAS HOT SAUCE. We also were not given any utensils or napkins when we were given this food. I had to yell to her as she ran off after putting the plate down. She came back with utensils and then went for our other food. The bacon on the burger was burnt where it was unidentifiable, we asked for ketchup and never got it. I eventually got up and got it myself.
The baked clams past the test, EXCEPT she forgot about the extra lemon.
See, the reason for asking for things in advance is so you can enjoy the food hot when it first comes out. By the time we got the lemons the clams were no longer hot.
The bacon burger other than having burnt bacon was disgusting because you could see that the meat was a frozen patty that looked like it had just come out of the freezer. The mini tacos were from a package that you can buy in your local supermarket freezer. THOSE WERE DISGUSTING.
The menu should be more specific by saying disgusting frozen mini tacos with red sauce in the middle and not one ingredient that you would NORMALLY find in an actual taco.
Once the waitress felt settled, meaning she got us our food, she then had the audacity to apologize for the wait.
ATTENTION OWNER OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT, let me teach you a few things if you want to make it in this industry.
First, get some REAL FOOD, I can't even imagine what those lobsters I saw served must have tasted like, NO THANK YOU.
Secondly, TEACH your staff to frequent their tables to see if their customer would like another drink.
Third, TEACH your staff to explain why the food is taking an excessive amount of time to come out. Then after that, have your staff ask the customer if they would perhaps like a basket of bread and some butter or something to hold them over being they have to wait so long. THIS WOULD BE FREE OF CHARGE BY THE WAY.
I will NEVER eat in this place again and thank G-d my friends band plays other places so I can go see them elsewhere.
This place I do not recommend at all.
This is a little Nautical bar in an inlet. Â It is very old and woodsy inside. Â The outside area is on the inlet/large canal. Â It has a very large deck that is partly covered. Â It is a nice place to sit out and enjoy the breeze with a cold beer. Â Some may not like the entry area to the Tavern. Â It is a little industrial, with a lot of ship repair facilities. Â We didn't eat, but the menu had something for everything.
