Drink your way around the world at these locations. Sample any tap beers and use their awesome app if you can't decide yourself. Loyalty program rewards you with gifts for regulars. They have cool drinking games like jenga at most locations I've been to. Some nights they have live music and feature monthly beers. If only they had food...
Review Source:World of Beer is a great Sarasota/Bradenton bar. Â There are plenty of TVs, a good bar, and plenty of additional seasting inside and outdoors. They have a whole bunch of beer, but im not really a beer snob. Â I moved down here a bit ago from Chicago and have been looking for a bar with this type of vibe. Â There is a decent younger crowd (for sarasota at least) and has a fun atmosphere. Â There are also good food specials that they bring in.
Review Source:I love this bar. im here 2, 3 times a week. I love the selection of beer. When i first started coming here, i knew very little about beer, but now...im in love with all types of beer. The loyalty program is pretty good. When you go alot, you'll meet alot of other regulars...its a weekly reunion of sorts lol. The only problems are that some of the tenders get overwhelmed and become very inattentive. ALot of times, a half hour will go by before one even glances your way. Then when you finally get to order your beer, you are told that its out-of-stock. With the new ownership and great marketing, this place has become considerably busier than when i started coming 2 years ago. It is no longer a place where you can hear the person next to you with ease. But, i enjoy the beers and the associates ive made.
Review Source:This was a relatively nice surprise coming from a NY-er who is used to massive tap and bottle selections expecting a beer desert in Florida.
Walked into a half-full bar/pub type of setting, not too dark, not too bright. Some faux leather booths and bar tables with some chairs off to the sides and the deep maple looking bar stretches about 30 feet down. 35-40 taps, all craft beers including Victory, Cigar City, Holy Mackerel, St. Bernardus, Grimbergen, Sea Dog, etc. There are 4 fridge/cooler doors and I estimate at least 300 different domestic/import craft beers, including Trappistes Rochefort, Terrapin, Unibroue, Ayinger, the list goes on. Needless to say, the selection was impressive. Most beers on tap are $5, although some are $6 or 7.
The beers I had on tap were pretty fresh. I questioned one of the bartenderess's ability to pour a proper beer, but another bartender seems to know his glassware and pouring techniques. Some of them require a little coaxing to come over to take your order but others are quite attentive. Works for me.
Certain nights is concert night, where they have a dude come in on his acoustic guitar way up above the bar on a balcony playing for everyone. Pretty chill and relaxed. Although it does get a bit loud sometimes. I'm also not a TV/sports person so the 10 or so flatscreens they have in there don't score points in my book.
They don't serve food there, but there's a pizza place next door that delivers right into the bar. That place sucks by the way, don't order food from them.
Over the past couple years, I've grown fond of this place, especially because they have student nights on Wed nights. If you bring your school ID, it's half off anything on tap. The bartenders here know me pretty well and they always let me sample things and are friendly with conversation. I do enjoy coming here. Review is for 4.25 stars. Solid.
I was out of town for work and slipped out of my hotel and down the street to World of Beer to watch some college basketball over a few brewskies. Â It was trivia night (Wednesdays) so the place was pretty decently crowded but I found a stool by the bar. Â
If I didn't have to be at work bright and early the next day, I would have really taken advantage of this place. Â The bottles beer list was enormous and the draft list was pretty solid. Â I tried their three IPAs (obvi) on draft and was pleasantly surprised to find one (Cigar City Jai Alai) that is not available in the Midwest. Â The place is relatively small (although I didn't go upstairs) and has a wall of beer bottles from around the world. Â
There wasn't much to complain about here - they had a great beer selection, the service was solid, and they let me change one of the TVs above the bar to watch the Hoosiers completely crush their arch rival Purdue.
My husband and his friends love this place for their selection of beers and outdoor seating. I'm told the hot dog nazi no longer owns the place, so I'm writing an update as there have been some changes since my first review.
The bar now serves everyone hamburgers and hotdogs. There are even days when they will serve ribs and brats, pretty generous. You can also ask for a binder of menus from nearby restaurants that will either deliver to your table or you can pick up from.
WOB has one of the best beer selections in the area. Wine is also in stock for non-beer drinkers. What's often not in stock though, are the specialty beers on the printed menu. They go fast and sell out on busy nights. You shouldn't have a problem ordering a beer from their big binder though, and check out the chalkboard for some interesting beers too.
What's still the same is the slow service outside. They are either really attentive or no where to be found. On a couple occasions we sat with empty glasses for what seemed like forever till we had to chase our waitress down and wave her over. The bartenders and the bbq guys are all really friendly and helpful though. Â
They also have tons of large flat screens and an impressive sound system for watching the game. You can also play corn hole and giant jenga in the parking lot.
If you are a quality beer fan, then this is the place for you. With the ever changing beer selection, you are almost always assured of both finding one to your liking and it being fresh. The bartenders take classes and seminars on the different types and styles of beer and able to answer your questions and make recommendations based on your input. At first I was dismayed that they didn't serve any food, but after realizing that you can have food delivered or you could simply bring it in, I saw the benefits of this. I can have my favorite local restaurant food and have a selection of beer that most restaurants simply cannot afford to have on hand. Its like having your cake and eating it too.
Review Source:If you love beer, and I do, this is the place for you. Â They have a huge selection and the server we had was very knowledgeable about flavor profiles, types of beer and suggestions. Â Which is very impressive when you see the list O-beers. Â So they don't have food... it's not called World of Food people. Â We went there after dinner, so food wasn't an issue. Â However, we saw people bringing in tacos and pizza, so obviously its not an issue if you need a snack. Â This was a great place to try new beers, old favorites or suggestions from the staff. Â We are very excited to see that a location in the DFW area will be opening soon. Â If you love beer, this is the place for you. Â And if you are lucky you will go on a night when they are having a party of pirates... arghhhhh matey!
Review Source:Crowded on Fridays and Saturdays of course! Â Live band on weekends so it's a little loud. Â Smoking is allowed on the adjacent patio. Â The doors are wide open so, if you are bothered by smoke, don't come here. Â They have beers all around the world on tap and in bottles. Â I love trying a new beer every time. Â The blueberry beer is delicious.
Review Source:There is no question that World of Beer (WOB) has a great selection of drafts and bottles. If you are looking to indulge in a hard to find favorite or in the mood to hop the globe a bit to find something new you will be well served here. I stopped at this location a couple of times while on a business trip to Sarasota. It is located in the new Sarasota University Park mall right next to the Comfort Suites hotel. It appears to be relatively brand new and the bar is lengthy with very comfy stools and there are also booths and high tops circling around the perimeter. There is an extensive outdoor seating area where cigar/cigarette smoking is permitted, but it is thankfully smoke free inside.
No food is served but I noticed delivery service was available from Casa Di Pizza which is a couple of storefronts down in the same strip mall center.
They do try to match beer type with style of glass, but they don't have the stock to have your beer served in its proper branded glass. So don't expect any Wittekerke frosted glasses or Delirium Tremens pink elephants, like you can find at The Independent in St. Pete.
The space is adorned with banners, signs, and beer taps from all around the world and behind the bar are 5 or so grocery style fridge cases stocked with bottles. There is also a mini stage on the second level for live music which I did manage to catch on one night. The live music was actually less loud than the house system, and wasn't a distraction.
With that being said there are some things that I think could be changed to make it a better experience. Namely the house music they play is pretty terrible. It's dominated by top 40 of the 90's and 00's, making it really predictable/cliche and I don't think it quite gels with the audience they are trying to cater to. It may just be me but I think many folks aren't looking to enjoy their 10.5 ABV St. Bernardus Abbot 12 while listening to TLC, creed, and .
Also, while the look is fresh, new, and clean it is also way to bright inside -- dim those lights it's a bar! This place suffers from the wall of LCD TVs that seem to dominate any new drinking establishment. The St. Petersburg 4th street location has the same problem. Luckily, all the Ed Hardy bros that were also present at the 4th street location were not here in Sarasota. Â I guess I'm a traditionalist that prefers a little less from my bars when it comes to be inundated with sports coming from a dozen large screen TVs. There are more than enough sports bars to cover that type of entertainment, can't we enjoy an awesome beer selection without all those distractions? Â
Overall, I enjoyed the place despite all my little nitpicks and its location couldn't be beat as it is right off University Parkway and i75 and near to many hotels. I think if I visit Saraosta again I would go back, but I would also want to go try out other beer-geek bars which I only found out of after my trip. Cock and Bull off of Fruitville Road and Stairway to Belgium in downtown both look outstanding and probably a little more authentic in comparison to the chain feel of WOB.
Yota asked for an update, so here we go...
First of all, let me say that while it may not be clear to new users of  Yelp who have stopped by for their first review  -- these reviews are my personal -- and strictly my personal -- opinion. I don't work for Yelp, or WOB, or any competitor. I never tell a restaurant or bar owner that I'm a reviewer on Yelp, and what you read is how I felt when I went there. Period. Your mileage may vary.
Saying that... I agree that the reason the Porter may not have been offered was because it wasn't on tap yet. My "minus" was due to the absence of a porter on draft -- not necessarily that the bartender had it wrong. Even Yota seems to expect that: "there may be three Porters on this week and one next." In this case, there was none, zero. My review wasn't clear on that... Hopefully, it is now.
When a restaurant religiously refrains from serving food, and advertises that it sells cigars, it's a generally accepted indication (by me) that it's a smoking bar. When a bar puts a display cigar case on the bar and the case is completely empty, it's a pretty good indication that they either no longer sell cigars, or they're keeping them somewhere other than a humidor. And when it's 30 degrees outside, it's a real pain to have to go outside to a patio to huddle under a heater instead of grabbing a toke inside. But you're right, they do say on the cigar list that they want you to smoke outside -- kind of a weird place to put it, but it's there...
About the TV location -- the statement that WOB is a "bar not a living room" seems silly. Hopefully, Yota, you're not representing the management of the bar when you say that. What bar owner doens't want you at least as comfortable out at their bar as you are at home?
The truth is that WOB has squeezed a bar into a long narrow, two story location and there's simply no way to get patrons far enough away from the TVs to permit you to watch comfortably. I've been in plenty of bars (and living rooms) where I've watched TV a lot more comfortably from my bar stool... And come on, when the band is playing upstairs, and you're listening downstairs -- how good is that going to sound?
Again, my personal opinion -- you're welcome to your opinion, too.
Hopefully, that clears some stuff up...
