The place is conveniently located on the beach and offers a good view.
But the food is horrific! We ordered a crab soup and a crab cake dinner. For the price, I expected a decent meal, maybe a smaller portion. I have never had the worst crab cakes in my life. The crab soup was not good either. It didn't have creamy texture, but instead was curdled.
They only serve beer and wine, so I wouldn't go here for a drink either.
While visiting the historic Yorktown area, my parents told me about a Pub they've been to a view times, so my fiancee and I decided to try it out with my parents. The Yorktown Pub is a really small bar, but has a great view right across from the beach and water. Basically, we visited the Pub to have a beer and try some appetizers and soup. My parents told me how good Clam Chowder was, so I had to try that. The clam chowder was excellent and a must have if you visit the Yorktown Pub. My fiancee and I also had the Crab Balls and Homemade Potato Skins. Both were very good, but the crab balls was the best of the two. The waitress we had was very good and the service was good. Overall, if you're walking around Yorktown and need to get off your feet for a bit, the Yorktown Pub is a good place to go for a nice cold beer and some awesome soup.
Review Source:Pro's: Beautiful Setting, Great Atmosphere, Delicious Food, St.George Gold Ale
Con's: Chilly on the inside, not a ton of seating.
Went here for dinner and a few drafts. The food was excellent (I had a cup of chili and lobster roll) both were very good. The St.George Ale was also very delicious. Â Great service and the atmosphere of the pub was really neat! The windows overlooked the beach. I would highly recommend checking this place out next time you're in Yorktown!
This place has great character and was packed during lunch - I had the Prime Rib Sandwich, which was a great choice. Â I'll be back when I'm not in such a rush and plan on sampling some beer and other pub fare.
Five stars after my first visit for atmosphere, history, service, friendliness and my food.
Awesome little beach pub! I have a feeling that many of the local old ladies are not pleased with its presence. When we asked if it was any good, we were given a solid "hurmph" before the answer.
Tile fish sandwich was on point!
Fried sea scallop sandwich was fantastic.
Great hush puppies.
The atmosphere and food in this place is great!! Â They have lots of seafood to choose from and it is all very fresh. Â Also, the owner purchases local vegetables to use in his dishes (i.e. he serves delicious Hanover tomatoes with his sandwiches). I had the grouper sandwich - absolutely to die for! Â If you have never checked this place out, you REALLY should. Â Such a nice drive there (especially if you take the Colonial Parkway), a very quaint town and the riverfront area on the York River is beautiful. Â Definitely worth it!
Review Source:Casual, out-dated environment. Our waitress was friendly, but forgot the salsa I had asked for to accompany the nachos (which I did not like very much...- too salty of chips, not enough toppings for the amount of chips). The only vegetable they had to offer was green beans, which I had to choose since apparently they do not offer a side salad. The beans were disgusting- could not eat them. They were definitely canned beans.
I ordered surf and turf and the broiled scallops were so good, and the prime rib (rare) was delicious. The rice was too sticky, so only ok.
I would go back- the view from the table was nice of the river. Good, local place.
Went here four times. It's hit or miss. Â Food alone would be four stars but...
First time, we went with the whole family. The food was ok. The best thing we had was my scallops.
The second time I went, we had drinks and appetizers. I ordered the tuna bites rare. Omg, so awesome.
Last time, we got chowder and tuna bites. Â The chowder is pretty amazing.
Now, the layout is bad. If you sit in the center, you will get bumped around. It's loud and busy like a pub. The waitresses do their best to give good service but it is sometimes lacking. The view is nice but the food is not great. When I go there, will only get scallops or tuna bites. Also, they don't serve shots....weird. Â Every demographic represented here.....crackheads (high as a kite) to businessmen and tourists. Â Hey, it's a beach pub! Â ;) Â Free entertainment!!!
Loved it! A small place on the York River which was filled with locals and tourists. Seemed to be THE place to be in that area. We enjoyed burgers and a fired shrimp dinner and they had great beer on tap. We sat at the bar and the service was fast and friendly. Â
We were glad we stopped - it was the perfect end to an afternoon in Yorktown!
Very loud (very). Â We went with a large party, no one could hear anyone else talk above all the noise. Â The kids loved their hot dogs. Â The people who ordered burgers were happy. Â Prime Rib sandwich contained more fat than meat. Â Cheese and chill on the Nacos were cold. Â Overall not a great meal.
Review Source:The food here is fabulous, priced great, and location is def a hidden gem at the Yorktown Beach. Â Service is rough on the edges but they're real and fast. Â Food is super fresh (right off the boat sitting at the pier!). Â Servers and Bartenders have been there for years, so ask them whats the best thing to order and they won't steer you wrong... and you can't beat drinking beer out of a mason jar, and chatting up the locals at the bar!
Review Source:Grabbed lunch here and ordered the Crab Cake Sandwhich. I sat at the bar so I didn't have to mess with being at a table and caught up with one waitress who was running between 5 tables.
Sitting at the bar I have several ladies offering great customer service.
I'd go back for sure, however I can't recommend the crab cake as I didn't taste any crab in it!
Service can be slow sometimes, but they are usually very busy, especially on weekends. 2$ bloody marys on sunday before 2pm!
this is a good place to walk into from the beach or hang out if you want something close to town. Â
Haven't tried much of the food, but friends have given it a thumbs up and the one chicken sandwich i had was good. Not great, but good.
We spent July 4 at this area of Yorktown last year. Â I have to admit...it was my first time inside Yorktown Pub. Â No, I wasn't looking for food, just the ATM machine. Â As I walked through I couldn't help but have the thought run through my mind...does this place really pass a board of health inspection? Â Ah...must be part of the ambiance. Â Not sure we'll try the food next time around.
Review Source:I've been to the Yorktown Pub three or four times over the course of the last five years and, most of the time, the servers are rude. You get the feeling that they think it is part of the ambiance to be rude to the customers but I hate it. The last time I was there, the waitress slammed a glass of water on our table one or two inches from its intended target which was a bar  napkin. She also challenged someone at our table about how he asked for his burger even though she never wrote down the initial order and had to come back to the table to double check what we had asked for before she submitted it to the kitchen.
Also, beware of the clientèle, who are primarily white and do not take too kindly to anything different from a white southerner. In general, I find it to be a hostile environment and that part keeps me too preoccupied to think about the food.
This place isn't that great... although if it were it would make an awesome bar for the location. This is a type of place to just drink and when I say drink I mean drink beer. Everytime my wife orders a girly drink there it was way too strong, to the point of bad taste. The food there was not very good.
Review Source:My wife & I have left Yorktown 8 years ago. In Florida for 2 years, and now live in Texas past 6 years. Â Each time we been to a pub of sorts in many places since leaving we tested the reuben sandwhich of Yorktown to the ones at the many establishments and "NONE" have ever come close to the YORKTOWN PUB'S REUBEN !!!
We miss the little old pub, and all the folks that hang there - especially during the Yorktown Day Celebration - I was always there in Kilt with me mates sounding the bugle and drinking along with the sounds of the pipes!!
It's a jolly good bar & the food is great !!!

We like this place a lot. It's kind of a biker bar which adds to the character of the place. We have had mixed service depending on which waitress we got and which bartender was working, but most of the time it has been fine. We keep going back for the absolutely incredible crab cake sandwiches. The beach outside is a very pretty view. I will agree with the earlier poster who said it is somewhat dirty. It is a little shabby, particularly the bathrooms. But the crab cake sandwich is the best I've ever had.
Review Source:I am ASTOUNDED at some of the other reviews of The Pub. Completely ASTOUNDED!
First of all, there is no more smoking in the Yorktown Pub; so some of the negative reports might have been too colored by a stink and fog that no longer exists.
Second of all, everything other reviewers have said about the wide range of characters at The Pub is true, and it's not a liability in my eyes.
Third of all, I--and everyone I've ever taken to The Yorktown Pub--LOVE this place! Why? Because the food is fantastic. Sure the atmosphere is outdated (that's why it's a dive) and the wait staff sucks (any restaurant in Williamsburg, Yorktown, Newport News, and Norfolk that sells meals under $20 has crappy service). But the food is delicious at The Pub.
Here are some of the things I struggle choosing between when I eat at The Pub:
1. Seafood Gumbo - Its texture varies based on the recent catch, but regardless, it has never disappointed. Everyone I know loves this soup.
2. Onion Rings - They're homemade and the best. Nice big rings with the perfect balance of onion, batter, salt, and oil.
3. Reuben - It's a big one, but tasty. Just in case you care, the fries are run-of-the-mill crinkle fries straight out of the frozen food section of the grocery store.
4. Prime Rib Sandwich - My boyfriend and I both think this is fantastic, and it is huge!
5. Fried Fish of the Day - Mmmm. The fish is locally landed and delicious.
6. Coleslaw - Several of out-of-town visitors have asked that we go back to The Pub the next day to have more of their homemade coleslaw.
Also, if raw shellfish are your style, Thursday is raw bar day. Don't wait because the Man might be coming down to ban raw bars at any point. Oh, and don't expect reasonable prices on the raw bar. You'll get none.
So my father and I were in southern Virginia and we stopped here to get a bite to eat. Â I wasn't expecting anything fancy but I may have found a hole I can call home. Â The place is dirty and dingy and has four distinct classes of patrons. Â Navy guys, tourists (like us), beach bums and bikers. Â Word of warning the beach girls range from ogle worthy to confounding.
While we were there are service went from oddly horrible to pretty good I don't understand why the switch happened but it was very annoying in the beginning.
The food was well prepared despite the fact that most of the ingredients were probably found in a local high school kitchen. Â Overall its a good bar but a crappy restaurant
Bonus points if you can find the groundhog that lives next door.
I'm not sure if I love or hate this place, but I'm leaning strongly toward hate. Â To be fair, I'm not the world's biggest fan of Yorktown, so my opinion may be somewhat colored. Â Still, seeing a baby sleeping peacefully at this fine, smoke-filled establishment while mom drank herself into next week was a major turn-off. Â Also, the beer selection sucks. Â The food is reasonable as bar food goes. Â On a completely serious note, be wary of cougars.
