I haven't eaten here, because Yelp shows them being open at 11 on Mondays when they really are closed on Mondays, and they also do not open until 11:30 on weekdays. Â Sadly, I did not record the open times as I figured I'd find them on their web-site, which does not exist, lol.
I will rate it 4 stars since that is the average and I don't want to throw that off until I actually eat there... Â But I figured I'd put this up as public service.
I showed up at 11 on a Monday, thanks to Yelp, but they were closed for the day. Â Grrrrrrr.
I also had a lot of trouble finding the place. Â It is located on the west side of Galindo St between Willow Pass and Salvio St.
This is such an adorable place and well very laid back as the other reviewer said. Â My friend and I visited last Saturday evening prior to a movie so we allowed a good amount of time and yes, you shouldn't be in a rush when you come here. Â I had a chicken dish which was very good with a Strawberry Delusion (I think that's the drink's name) and I loved it. Â The atmosphere was great although we were surprised to find ourselves the only people in there but maybe it's a place that is busier in the later evenings. Â I don't know. Â But the chicken was wonderful and well cooked. Â I'm sorry, I can't recall the particular chicken dish we had. Â The service was very attentive and we found the experience enjoyable.
Review Source:I agree with most yelpers here. Â The chicken is incredibly moist and all the meats have very good middle eastern flavor. Â They use these same meats in the cheese steak sandwiches and it works great! Â Great tasting rice too with the meal plates. Â One caveat is that sometimes they don't seem to be open during their posted hours. Â And there's just one cook sometimes so the food can take longer than you expect so go with patience and just relax.
Review Source:Location: Their spot is hot - downtown next to the movie theater.
Ambience: Swiss modern, light wood and metal. They have one corner, ground-seating that gives this place a Mediterranean feel. Apart from that, nothing about the place is authentic to it being a "Mediterranean Grill."
Food: A kin to many restaurants near by, the ingredients are all there, but the flavor lacks. Some of the appetizers seem as if they were popped out of a plastic bag and simply fried/microwaved. Portions are reasonable.
Of the times I've been to this place, I have hardly ever seen more than 2 other customers at this place. Although the place is relatively new, it seems as if it's dying before it's really lived. The place has potential, but lacks energy and spirit.
This is my new favorite spot! The food is excellent. Ask for the vegetable soup; it may not be on the menu, but it's home-made (no nasty artificial additives. I guarantee it.) My 75 year old mother said it is as good as anything she has ever made. (Highest praise, indeed!)
One thing to remember; this place is laid-back and relaxing. Just don't get in any hurry. It ain't fast-food, folks! We westerners seem to be stuck in this "I want my food NOW!" syndrome. What's wrong with chilling out for a bit and spending some quality time with your dinner companion? The reason the food takes awhile is that they make it fresh. I think it's well worth the wait.
I've tried several menu items and have been very pleased with everything. This is the kind of place you can just close your eyes and point so something and it'll be great!
The cuisine is very authentic; I have friends from their area of the world and can address this with confidence. If you're open to new taste sensations, try it today!
Had an order of the Sambosas (~$6): six deep-fried breaded pockets stuffed with spinach, potato and jalapeno (two of each). Â Also had an order of Falafel (~$14): pita stuffed with falafel ball, tomato, cucumber, onion, and tahini sauce served with fries. Â Food was delicious, staff was gregarious, and the ambiance was chill.
NOTE: Â Although the restaurant has hookahs they are for decoration only.
The people who took care of us here made me feel like family. Â We both had kabobs and they were great. Â I don't usually talk about cocktails, but I am compelled to talk about the Bee Sting. Â Its a sweet and spicy at the same time. Â
Its in a great spot if you want a nice date night. Â CLose to the movies, a park where there have live music and a bunch of other places to get drinks.
If you chose a separate place to grab dinner, this would be a great spot to grab a drink before your movie begins.
The interior was nice.
The service was awkward.
The food was at best okay.
The food was overpriced for being 'just okay.'
There is a place very close to here with similar, yet better, food. I will keep going there, and not be back here, unless I am swayed or tricked into coming back here.
This location is the location of death for restaurants; they never succeed. Location location location.
For all y'all that haven't had Mediterranean food before, please please, do yourself a favor and try it somewhere else. I'm not telling you 'not' to go here, but please try another place for comparison. And I don't mean that overly corporate place named after a Greek goddess.
I have been to this restaurant several times. I went with a friend for the last encounter on a Thursday night (2 other tables were there). As usual the Mediterranean food is very good. Their menu is very eclectic and distracts from their specialty. The environment is as schizophrenic as the food with movies playing in the background with pop music in the background. Overall, the service by the owner (older Afghani lady) was consistent and good. She is very nice. I would recommend any of the kabobs. Their is a $2 surcharge for dinner.
Full bar - but it is inexplicable why they close at 9pm - as they miss out on the late night movie crowd. They were also closed on a Monday when I tried to eat there.
The food is very good, but the service could use a little more work because while the server was very nice, but he seemed a little inexperienced and there was only one chef working in the kitchen.
I ordered the beef cheesesteak sandwich and received a chicken cheesesteak sandwich.  I would've let the server know, but after having waited an hour for our food, I was too hungry enough to care.  I arrived with some friends at 5pm - thinking that 2hrs was enough to have a leisurely dinner before a 7pm movie at Brenden - but we weren't served until 6:15pm and had to wolf down our food.  Two other groups that came in after we did (~20-30 mins after),  were served before we were and had enough time to eat and leave by the time we got our food, which is a little ridiculous since we were very hungry  :-(
One nice thing was that they gave us 2 baskets of fries on the house, but they gave us the fries AFTER we had already received our food. Â It would've been nice to munch on the fries while we were waiting.
Despite the slowness of the food, the chicken cheesesteak was very juicy and the chicken was tender. Â Next time, I hope to order (again) and hopefully receive the beef version of it.
Another nice thing is that they prepared separate checks.
This place isn't the best Mediterranean place in Claycord, but it's a pleasant surprise in the Todos Santos area.
I'm mostly giving 2 stars to Zambur because the service was slow. Â Once they get that fixed, I'd reconsider giving it 3-4 stars.
I just enjoyed two flavorful kabobs with rice and salad included. Even the rice and salad were flavorful - not the bland "side dish" you sometimes get. Baklava is wonderful with chocolate dripped over it. Most impresive, though, is the fact that the young proprietor also conceived and designed the stylish interior, including chairs, color scheme, and the snappy new menu. Come enjoy!
Review Source:Went here for the first time tonight. My wife and I got there about 5:15 PM. We're not used to this style of food, but we loved it. We got some appetizers and split a chicken kabob.
The house gave us some vegetable soup. We both loved that too.
We have decided to come back and try some other menu items. Atmosphere was good too.
My boyfriend took me here tonight after I got off work, after a long days/weeks work. The atmosphere was wonderful, the food delicious, I had the chicken kabobs, and he had the Sirloin Kabobs. We also had the Calamari which were delicious, and the little stuffed triangle things with spinach and cheese and potato and peas. All very delicious. The waiter was very polite, and attentive. The cocktails we thought we a little pricey. $11.00 for Martini's and they didn't give him an Onion or olive. We'd definitely go back but we'd order water instead of paying for the cocktails. Had it not been for the over priced Vodka martini's I would have given the establishment 56 stars. It's worth going back regardless. The baklava was to die for. Best we've ever had.
Review Source:Well sorry to anyone who bought the groupon deal for this place. I thought the food wasn't very good. The hummus tasted funny. I have never seen corn or green/red bell peppers in Mediterranean food yet this place had it in my samosa (which I have also never seen in  Mediterranean food). I don't eat lamb and didn't see it on the menu however I am pretty sure my beef sandwich had lamb in it. The price is not very good. The menu is very limited and I saw lots of fried food which I have never seen at some of other places Ive eaten at. The one good thing was the chicken kabobs. The chicken was very tender and tasty. Go to the Mediterranean place down the street its a lot better.
Review Source:Really disappointing. Â The restaurant smelled like grease. Â The menu offered fried foods, steak sandwiches and kabobs. Â Really just a place to grab a bite on the run--before or after a movie. Â Not a place for nice sit-down meal. Â Food was more like the quality from a lunch counter. Â We had kabobs, steak sandwich and chicken strips--would not recommend any of it. Â The saffron rice was pretty good, though.
Review Source:I expected a lot after reading some of the other reviews here, but this place was a major disappointment. Â Yes, the prices are reasonable, but that's about the only positive. Â The appetizer of deep fried calamari waas paltry even for the low price, and it seemed like something you would buy in the frozen food section of your local bargain market. Â Same goes for the crab cakes, which seemed pretty devoid of crab. Â
That night they were out of their best kebab (the sirloin) so we had a couple of kebabs from ground beef. Â Both of them were the blandest kebabs that we've ever tasted, and we've eaten at a lot of middle eastern restaurants. Â Even the rice that came with it was blander than most. Â The chicken kebabs were a bit better thanks to a spicy sauce that came on the side. Â We also had a side salad, but this consisted of a puny portion of the same greens that the calamari and crab cakes were sitting on. Â The server should have warned us about that.
They only serve a house wine by the glass, and it was pretty wretched.
This place is definitely not worth going to, and to those of you who gave it 5 stars, you really need to get out more.
I see a lot of 4-5 star reviews on here! Â In fact, that's why I wanted to try Zambur out. Â Can't say I agree with them....
I came here with my lady friend and the first thing you notice is the huge plasma tv on the far wall, which was playing a movie at this point. Â Kinda reminded of Foreign Cinema out in Mission... but a smiiiidge less classy. Â Today they were playing the art-house classic Cop Out. Â Y'know, with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan? Â Funny thing is, the tv wasn't muted so you could hear every "s" and "f" bomb being dropped. Â Really, I don't give an "s" about language in movies, but it would have been a little awkward if I was there with my kids.
There were two servers that day who were friendly enough, but honestly didn't really seem to know what they were doing... like kind of aloof. Â I think Zambur's a family-run joint and they were the youngest of the family (who could work at least). Â One of them kept asking us if we were part of Groupon and the other was playing on her laptop most of the night. Â Kinda awkward.
Me and the miss split some sambosas (recommended by our fellow Yelpers and a steak (teka) kebab dish. Â The sambosas were really disappointing. Â The taste and texture just made me believe they're frozen sambosas I could have bought from Costco. Â I def don't think they're made in-house. Â The kebab dish was little better. Â If I remember right, it came with a side of rice and a mini salad (kinda looked like coleslaw). Â For me, kebabs are all about seasoning and texture and this kebab excelled in neither. Â The rice was a little better, pretty good seasoning. Â The salad was just weird - a battle of conflicting flavors that didn't taste fresh at all.
There was one other thing that really bothered me right from the first glimpse of the menu. Â The menu clearly states right at the top "add $3 if this is for dinner." Â Bigger portions? Â I hope not because our portions def weren't big. Â Because it's crackin at dinner and they just respond to supply and demand? Â I can totally dig restaurants charging more for dinner IF it's actually crackin. Â There were two other couples in this place. Â Charging us more to eat in a boring, empty restaurant just because it's 7:00 felt like a slap in the face.
Bottom line: Â I maaaaaaayyyyy come back for a quick lunch if I'm in the area and craving Mediterranean.... but then again..... maybe not.
I've been on a yelp rut lately and I'm not quite out of it, so I'll keep this short. Â Zambur is a good spot with fairly good kabobs. Â The chicken kabob was nicely seasoned, same goes for the teka kebob. Â Good service too. Â The server will likely ask you how you like your beef cooked, don't bother saying "medium rare," because they don't know how to do it. Â Mine was totally well done. Â Good thing it was still delish. Â The saffron rice was smooth and flavorful as well. Â Fried crab cakes were perfectly crispy, but slightly bland in taste.
One thing I did not appreciate is that the menu pricing is deceiving. Â Seems fair on the menu, except for the easily missed fine print that states that they add $2.00 to each item after 5:00 p.m. Â Not cool. Â I mildly recommend for the above average kebabs, but don't rush over.
I have never had mediterranean food before, so thought this was as good as of a time as any to try.
This place is pretty new by the looks of it is is attached to the brenden theaters. I think also would be a real good pre movie place to eat other than I love teriyaki on the other side.
Great ambiance, but quite small. I went on the thursday night so there was only a couple people there, but might get full rather fast on a busy night.
I think I used the living social deal when I went, so it always lets me try a few extra things.
I started off with the fried calamari, which was good, but the menu said with tentacle and it didn't have any. So i guess false advertisement haha and it for sure did not come with enough sauce and it was very tough.
We also had the friend chicken wings, which were good, but no sauce. Just plane ol flavorless wings? iono....
I then got the shrimp plate and my gf got the chicken salad. The portions were not big but the price wasn't big either, so that is fine with me. I needa not be so fat sometimes!
Everything tasted fine, the chicken in the salad was the same as the ones on the kabob's, it was good and their salad dressing was tasty.
My shrimp came with fries and not enough ketchup, so had to ask for more since its not at the table.
There were 2 hosts there 1 old sister and 1 younger I'm thinking. The older one was very good but the younger one seems to forget things. Like my ketchup refill and to keep refilling my drink. The other one did pick up the slack and check on us a lot. Hopefully the younger one will get better in time.
Atmosphere, decor, food, and service was great! Â You wouldn't think a place like this existed in Concord. Â My sister and I walked in and it was empty, but the vibe was cool. Â Modern. Â They have a room in the back that looks like a hookah lounge. Â The music was awesome bc it fit the type of restaurant it was. Â I can't stand going to a cultural restaurant and listening to top forty music...it doesn't go. Â We had the crab cakes (nice crispy outside), samboras (fried pockets with a variety of things inside) with a really good spicy sauce (looks like wasabi but I don't think it was), chicken kabob (moist ass marinated chicken with long grain seasoned rice and served with the spicy sauce), teka kabob (the most tender beef EVER, with the same rice) and baklava...YUM. Â On top of that, we had soup which was on the house along with the baklava! Â
Good experience. Â It's nice to be treated well for once at a restaurant. Â Definitely going back.
Oh, and one thing I have to mention is their menu is super small. Â I was kinda shocked when i looked at it. Â But this is a flea compared to the big dog of an experience I had.
What do Mediterranean food, bass-heavy lounge music, the movie Chicago and fish and chips have in common? Â The only thing I can think of is that all of these things are inside of Zambur.
I was excited to try this place and having a groupon was a bonus. Â The four and five star reviews on yelp were also promising.
The location is not ideal, except that it might work for pre-movie drinks and eats. Â We parked in the free lot behind the theater and walked around.
Upon walking in we were greeted quickly and seated. Â They weren't busy that night (only two other tables were being served when we arrived) but it felt like everything took a long time. Â From ordering drinks, to getting our drinks, to ordering food, to receiving our food, to getting our check... Â
I like the simplicity of their menu. We started with the combo sambosas - two each of spinach, potato and jalapeno. Â These were quite good and I especially liked the dipping sauce that went really well with the spiciness of the sambosas. Â For my main dish I ordered the shrimp and chips and although they double checked my order, I ended up with shrimp and fish. No chips. Â Because we had waited a while, I decided to just go with it. Â The shrimp were crispy and delicious. Â The fish was okay but way too greasy and I left most of it behind. Â My honey seemed pleased with his meat, grilled tomato and rice. Â
Upon receiving our bill, my honey was chastised for not showing our groupon beforehand. Â Everywhere else we have used a groupon we were told not to worry about the end so I honestly didn't think about it. Â I understand that it created an extra step but they were not busy and we apologized. Â The man who ended up taking care of our bill was perfectly nice about it so maybe she was just having a bad day?
Overall, the food was good and well priced (three stars) but the service and ambiance both felt off and I don't feel a strong desire to return.
What a find in Concord, CA! Â My wife and I ate here recently and the food and service were terrific. Â We really enjoyed the Bolani and Sambosas with the fabulous dipping sauces. Â We used the sauces on the moist and juicy chicken kabobs too. Â The food was fresh and the family who runs the business was very warm and inviting. Â We'll be back soon.
Review Source:I came here yesterday w/ a friend of mine. I liked the lounge-like atmosphere. My friend had the sirloin kabobs, and I had the chicken kabobs. Â They were very good. The meat wasn't dry, and was seasoned well. There were some seasonings sprinkled on the rice--I didn't recognize the flavor but I liked it.
We also had the bolani which we didn't care for too much (just our tastes). Our waitress was very nice and explained everything that we were eating. Â An older lady (I think it was her mom) asked us how we liked everything, and our waitress checked on us a few times too. Â Excellent customer service! U should try this place if u like to explore new types of food.
A friend and I stopped by here a couple months ago for a drink and some grub. The place was nearly empty when we got there, but it wasn't dinner time yet, so that was expected.
Beer selection was decent but what caught our attention were the sambosas! The sambosas weren't the big sized ones I was used to, but they were cheap ($5 for 3-4 pieces, I think) and came with different fillings. The best part was the dipping sauces they came with (I'm a fan of dipping anything in yummy sauce!). We also ordered a chicken kabob entree to share. The chicken was juicy and spiced just right, not at all dry. The rice was the BEST part! Fluffy and mixed with herbs, can't beat it!!!
I have to say, the best part of the whole experience was when the owner came by our table to say hi. She was so sweet and courteous, wanting to know what we thought of the food and the place. She shook our hands and made sure we had everything we needed. I noticed that she went around the restaurants to greet the other customers as well. Now, some people may not like this because they prefer to not be disturbed, but I am someone who appreciates the thoughtful owner who takes the time to interact with the paying customers. It makes customers feel special and tended to, and that's good for business! Hence... why I'm giving this place such a good review ;-). She wanted us to pass a good word along about her restaurant, so here I am. Please come try their delicious sambosas!! You won't regret it!
We love this little gem of a place! Â Hubby and I were craving something different for dinner, and were ravenous. Â Stopped in Zambur (after creepily casing the joint for a few minutes) and were immediately greeted and seated.
This is a cute little spot run by a husband and wife doing most of the cooking and their daughter waiting tables and making drinks. Â They were all so friendly, and the daughter helped us choose some appetizers to start... we got their version of tzaziki and pita (forget what it was called on the menu) and sambosas. Â There are two flavors of sambosa... spinach or potato, so we got a combo! Â The tzaziki was LOADED with garlic, and was just to die for, and we were so glad we got the sambosas, we enjoyed both! Â The spinach was almost like a dolmade filling and the potato one was spiced with a heady combo of clove, cardamom and others... WE LOVE A PLACE THAT ISN'T AFRAID to spice up their food.
For dinner I got chicken kabob and husband got the sirloin... so tender, perfectly cooked and a couple little sauces to accompany. Â Our lovely server offered to make us a special martini to try, we're always up for something new and original. Â All I know is there was vodka and jalapeno in it... it was so refreshing, hint of heat... never had anything like it! Â Dinner for two with 2 apps and 3 rounds of drinks was around $80 and worth every penny!! Â They have been here about 4 months and trying to get the word out... Â Please stop by for a wonderful, uncrowded, delicious dinner and support this adorable hard-working family. ;)
Tried this place for lunch on a weekday. Â Very nice decor and friendly service. Â We ordered the bolani and a few kabob plates. Â We also got veggie soup on the house, which was flavorful and so perfect for the winter day. Â The bolani was filled with potatoes and green onions and it came with various sauces for dipping; very yummy. Â The chicken kabobs were super moist, juicy and flavorful. Â The beef kabob was cooked to order and also was very moist. Â I'm definitely coming back!
Review Source:Nice ambiance...dim the lighting a bit and it'd be a great ambiance. Â Love the loungey house music...fits the atmosphere perfectly. Â Service is great...very, very friendly and efficient. Â Definitely an interesting menu...half Mediterranean, half American bar type food. Â We stuck to the Mediterranean side of things and enjoyed everything we ordered.
Review Source:We checked this place out after a movie at the Brendan Theater (next door) and really love the environment. Â It is cool and laid back and the service is VERY friendly. Â We walked in and were greeted by Mena who wore the most wonderful smile you can imagine. Â We were promptly seated on comfortable bench seats and were amused that the Hookah pipe was already on the table. Â Okay, so I know nothing of the Hookah but enjoyed the fact that it was there.
Mena walked us through the menu and recommended that we try a kabob, we went for the sirloin, and when we were debating the best approach to getting our daily veges she suggested the vege soup. Â Now, I am not really big on vege soup because of a very bad experience with a can of Campbell's back in da' day...but we decided to give it a try. Â She was right. Â The broth was excellent and not too salty and the veges (squash, purple cabbage, etc.) had just the right amount of "bite" so they weren't wimpy - I can't stand a wimpy vegetable.
Next we had the crab cakes which were crispy but didn't really move me without the yogurt dip which gave both the cakes and the sirloin some real pizzazz. Â The dinner salad was the perfect complement (the cakes come on a small salad too - but you can never get enough veges according to our Naturopath; Dr. Amanda Lien) and we inhaled that just in time to welcome the kabobs.
So you all know that I am meat eater and don't play when it comes to my steaks. Â This was perfectly seasoned and prepared. Â Just enough of a crispy exterior and moist and tender on the inside. Â The basmati rice was PERFECT and had even more veges (thx Doc).
Halfway through the main course Ms. Lila comes out to welcome us and thank us for coming to the restaurant. Â She told us about the menu and how she chooses the dishes. Â What a delightful end to an awesome dining experience.
This restaurant is DEFINITELY on our "list" of regular places to eat. Â There is a really cute little lounge area (I am sure there is a better description in another review). Â We were well fed for about $25 bucks.
Check it out.
SUCH an improvement over the Italian joint that used to be here!
Ordered the ground beef kabob, it's my go-to and general tester point with new Med/Persian/Afghan restaurants. The spices in the kabob were a little different from what I'm used to, but I've also never had two restaurants taste the same!
The samosa was tasty, but a bit spicy for my taste. But being that I ate 6 of the 8... they must have been pretty good!
I look forward to returning soon!
Very reasonable pricing. Friendly and fast service. And a great vibe in the whole place.
Came here last night. Â Very friendly service. Â The decor is very modern. Â There's even a cute hookah corner that looks very comfy. Â I wish they were actually allowed to light the hookahs. Â
We had the chicken kabob that came with rice. Â The chicken was flavorful and moist. Â It was good. Â We also had a side of friends and calamari.
They have a full bar but no drink menu. Â I think if they make up a few exotic drinks and advertize it, more people will come for drinks. Â Perfect place to grab a bite to eat or a drink before a movie next door.
Hip and tasty = hiptastic.
Interior is gorgeous and comfy, very sleek, and inviting. Good eats and great beats. Nice (though new) service. My fave new hang out ;)
And literally, because everything is top of the line, the beats, furniture, sound system, etc because they just opened 3 weeks ago!
Fun people, check this place out before or after a movie...or just when you feel like getting your bolani or sambosas... delish. Â
(Will update when i have a salad here.)
It's not going to take too much coaxing to bring me back. ;)
Service very attentive, as you would expect from a family business, super friendly. "Mom" came over to greet us and thank us for coming in. Went in sat night for some drinks before high school reunion. Had some apps and they did a great job making drinks that were no where in the menu but were open to making what we asked for. The sambosas were great fried little triangles with a creamy chutney spread that had a kick. Fresh hummus and flat bread. And all very reasonably priced. I was surprised there weren't more people in there on a sat night. Will be back.
If you go to Brenden theater for a movie grab a bite to eat here too!
i walked in feeling like i walked in a different country, the Ambiance was well organized with hookas on each table, and the purple curtains gave the room a romantic feel to it. It might be a smaller restaurant, but the love of the family which owns the restaurant helped me feel right at home. The cucumber taziki sauce with pita bread had such a welcoming aroma of garlic it tickled my taste buds. I was so excited to know there was more to come...The doner kabob in a pita, had me salivating ,the taste was so juicy, and with the sauce, it topped it off right. The rice and vegetables, made me feel like a little kid again . I believe one of the best appetizers there was the calamari with tentacles, You cant find the tentacles hardly anywhere?? I just wished it was a bigger plate!!!. The wife was so pleasant and was so nice i felt i was visiting their home.I'm so happy Hollywood pizza , found a new home, and Zambur found a place to call home, and now i have a Mediterranean place that's worth yelping about !!
Review Source:I gave Zambur Bar & Grill another try Thursday. What surprise me was that it was a family run restaurant. I ended up talking with the entire family especially mentioning how good their daughter was great with me Sunday. Once again I had Chicken Kabob to-go. They offer me soup and water while i was waiting for my order. They surely are a friendly bunch of people. Now I definitely have a favorite place to go.
