A head's-up to anyone in the area who has every been to this bar / restaurant on Main Street in Newark, DE. The bar has been fraudulently charging my credit card multiple times over the past month. I stopped by the bar for a beer on September 6th with a group of friends and have not been back since. I was charged for an amount on the 16th, as well as the 26th. PNC notified me that my card was being entered manually and cancelled my card. My friends who tagged along on the 6th also found random charges from this bar over the past month for random amounts of money. PNC is investigating these incidents as well as American Express. If you have been to this place within the past two months I highly suggest you CHECK your bank statements. The charge will show up under the name "Stone Balloon Winehouse".
Review Source:Good draft beer selection--good flight options too, but you have to ask for them.
The bitters beer (forget the name) was great. Â My Belgian Blonde on draft was good too. Â Great atmosphere, seems like thye have a nice patio out front too.
Several items on the menu sounded wonderful, but I had just eaten. Â I look forward to coming back to try the pub grub. Â Entrees are too expensive in my opinion. Â I saw a rib eye for $36, etc. But the buffalo chicken dip for $10 sounded worth it. Had other pub-style food and moderately priced burgers that sounded yummy!
My friend had the wings said, "They were good, but not worth $12" for eight wings. Â My other friend had the hummus, which looked like tuna, but it was tasty, had a good flavor and hint of spice to it. Â
I'll definitely be back to try the food for myself!
On the pro side the pork chop dinner, the service, the decor, and the imported ale & cider were very good. Â On the con side, the wine was way overpriced and the rest of the menu didn't impress. Â Would not initiate a return, but if friends wanted to go, would accompany and have the chops again.
Review Source:Overall, a nice experience but food could of been better. Decor was great and the service was awesome. My friends loved the beer. Luckily they have gluten free alcohol choices for persons with allergies. Strongbow Cider for $4 was a great deal.
On to the food...could be better! The appetizers...we enjoyed the cheese board, and thai glazed pork belly were very yummy. The Asian noodle salad was bland. I had the PBLT (pork belly, lettuce and fried tomato sandwich). The pork belly was a little tough which was disappointing. Their frites (fries...whatever!!) were tasty and could have been more on the plate. You also got two measly pickle slices with your sandwich too. My friend noted the fish and chips were bland, and other diners enjoyed the vegetarian/vegan special.
They were very accommodating with hosting my friend's birthday there and cut and served the cake for us.
I would definitely go back to enjoy drinks and a few appetizers! That's pretty much it.
Loved this place. We ate there for the first time Sept 1st and all three of us really enjoyed our dinner. Crab cakes were tasty and moist, the mahi mahi tasted fresh and not overly seasoned, and the pork chops were very flavorable although the cut itself was only ok. For all three meals the vegetables were superb with the brussels sprouts winning raves.
The draft beers were good but nothing spectacular (we tried three different ones). The atmosphere was friendly and calm, and the service was prompt and courteous. We will definitely return to this place.
The atmosphere, the beer, and the service were very good. Â It was a little more upscale than anticipated so the shorts we were wearing were a little out of place. Â The food we ate unfortunately did not meet expectations. Â I had a burger and my husband had fish and chips. Â They were super salty but otherwise bland. Â In no way did the food justify the very high end price tag that was attached. Â Upon arriving home my husband said "I have better hamburger at McDonald's". Â Our recommendation is to enjoy the excellent beer but get your dinner elsewhere. Â 5 stars for beer. Â 2 stars for food.
