This was one of the worst dinning "experiences" that I have had in recent times!
We ordered their "special" --a large taco. Â They advertised the special of taco and Corona beer special. Â This was a 6;30 PM --the waitress told us that the taco special was ok but the special on Corona didn't start untill 7:00. Â what bullshit.
The "Taco" came so loaded with SALT!! it was  uneatable. The taco consisted of a spoon of ground beef and a little lettace.  the Taco sauce came in little catchup size fast food type containers -one per taco. Like watered down ketchup.  My wife asked for more sauce.  They charged her extra for"salsa on the side".  My wife tells me that I now owe her a meal, in a place of her choosing _that has food that you can eat.
we came home and I drank some bourbon and my wife drank wine to try and get the awful taste out of our mouths. Â UGG! Â NEVER AGAIN!!!
Total crap meal.
AVOID this place !!!
In fairness the waitress was ok and probably an OK place for a beer BUT NOT THE FOOD!!!!
Great for drinking, terrible for eating!
This quiet bar is a great place to go with friends on the weekend for a drink. You can play shuffle board, talk without needing to yell, and good drink specials. It's not over crowded at all.
Eating there is a different story. My first attempt resulted in an odd tasting black bean burger patty. I thought it was my fault for not ordering a beef burger patty, so I agreed to give it another chance. We got the onion rings for an appetizer, which were lukewarm generic onion rings from the freezer served with watered down ranch. For the main course I had the Blue Monkey burger with an angus beef patty and a side of coleslaw. The beef was your average frozen tasteless patty, and I even had to salt it! It was served with a tomato slice and a pathetic piece of iceberg lettuce. The coleslaw had clearly been sitting around for awhile and not even close to tasty. My husband had the Patty Melt burger, which had promise....but really missed the mark. The bread was drenched in oil and you couldn't tell it had Swiss cheese. Again, served on top of a tasteless, dry beef patty. Â It was too obvious that everything was per-packed and frozen prior to re-heating.
On the plus side, the staff is always friendly. I will be back to enjoy an adult beverage and shuffle board, but I will not be selecting any items from their menu.
In a nutshell: Fantastic find. Food is great, prices are competitive and service is consistently good. We frequent with small kids and on date nights.
This pub is a diamond in the rough. The East of side of Iowa City was in need of a quality watering hole and thankfully, we finally got one. 2Dogs is like your best friend's kitchen: Delicious food (without having to do dishes), great beer and good service.
If you know anything about good beer, you need to go here. Outstanding selection.
We first happened upon this gem for breakfast. It's humble offerings hit the spot (with kids and parents) and was very reasonably priced.
On our next visit we had burgers with a side of cheese curds, fried green beans (FAVORITE) and funnel cake for dessert. Yes, they serve funnel cake.
The Blue Monkey burger is perfection. With a beef, turkey or their black bean burger, I've sampled all three. Also, they have a wonderful vegetarian sandwich that is chocked full of flavor.
We enjoyed their St. Patrick's Day celebration last year complete with live music from the Beggarmen. For such a small venue, the sound quality and show was fantastic.
The fact that it is a locally owned establishment, by a young hard-working family, also  serves as our impetus to choose to dine (and drink) here. The owner is frequently behind the bar offering samples of new brews and sharing his knowledge of great beers.
Good food and good beer selection - actually, one of the better beer selections in town. They have a rotating seasonal selection and good regular beers too. 2 Dogs also has great happy hour deals. I really enjoy their buffalo wings so the $5 appetizers during happy hour is a great time to get them. They also have free shuffleboard, other games, and a jukebox. We frequent 2 Dogs quite a bit. If you go in February, I recommend the "Luau Burger" :).
Review Source:2 Dogs Pub is a great place to get a bite to eat for lunch / dinner. Â There aren't many places on the east side of Iowa City that have as many draft options to choose from as 2 Dogs - something the beer lover in me greatly appreciates. Â Lately I've been enjoying the various seasonals that have been coming through...really adds variety to their beer menu.
In terms of the food, there are a lot of happy hour and daily specials but I rarely find myself straying from the burger menu. Â My personal favorite is the Here Piggy Piggy burger (bacon, ham, salami, and BBQ sauce) and I occasionally go for the tenderloin. Â One of the things I like about the place is you can choose sides without an up-charge. Â As someone who's not a big fry person - it's nice to be able to go with rings or cheese balls and not be charged extra for it.
The staff is friendly and typically attentive. Â I bring my kids in often and have found it to be a kid friendly environment. Â Some sports bars can be just ridiculous when it comes to the sound - but 2 Dogs does a pretty good job of balancing the sound of the game / music with the crowd.
Finally, there's not really anywhere that I know of in town that focuses on showing soccer matches. Â 2 Dogs regularly shows Premier League soccer on the weekends which is a great option for fans like me.
Overall, 2 Dogs isn't the most gourmet option in town (which they don't seem to be trying to be), but they have good bar food, nice staff, and a great selection of beers which is what I'm looking for. Â Living on the east side of Iowa City I'm always happy to have additional options and this pub is a good one.
