This is the latest in a series of attempts to have a decent restaurant in the Racine Marriott, which is evidently not an ideal location. Â When my wfe and I dropped by for lunch, it was almost deserted, which is not a good sign. Â The food was satisfactory and the service friendly, so I wish them well and wish I could give them more than 3 starts.
Review Source:Sunday afternoon and there were about 6 other patrons, 2 busboys and the waitress. Â She was nice enough and tried her best, however a pleasing disposition couldn't overcome the lackluster dining experience. Â 6 in our party and the waitress brought out the burger, flatbread pizza, and one ruben....we waited for about 4-5 minutes and two more plates arrive, two more rubens, still no penne pasta and meat balls....we all wait another 4 minutes and the last dish arrives.
FOOD:
Pasta, just past. Â meatball, just meat rolled into a ball. Â Little distinction or taste.
Ruben, the three who ordered agreed, tough.
Burger: a burger
Fries: Â ordered well done, crispy....arrived dark brown and soggy, probably had fries under warmer already and threw them back in for a couple minutes...not good at all. Â Waitress brought us "homemade" potato chips instead, passable yet tasted like they were made this early this morning rather than anytime close to lunch.
They advertise: "Racine's Best Ruben" Â My advice, drive North to Milwaukee or South to Chicago to get a good Ruben.
I had read a few articles on 20 and Oakes after it had opened and decided to check it out. Â From what I read, it wasn't your typical bar and grill. Â My husband and I went with another couple and were pleasantly surprised by what we found!
The decor is cute enough. Decent for a hotel, but nothing amazing. Â We were by the fire place which was awesome on a chilly evening!
For starters we ordered the crab cakes and the Chef's Not So Normal Flatbread Pizza. Â Both were awesome. Â I loved the red
pepper remoulade that came with the crab cakes. Â
We all decided to try different entrees and share.
The Grilled Portobello Sandwich was tasty, but by far the smallest sandwich. Â We also got the fries with this sandwich. Â They were very tasty, but we were told they were seasoned. Â The seasoning was VERY mild. Â They were basically just a normal fry.
I had the 20 & Oakes BLT, which I really enjoyed. Â The neuske's bacon was very good with an awesome smoky flavor. Â Everyone really enjoyed it. Â The only issue was the mayo, while tasty, was very thin. Â It made the sandwich a little sloppy.
The Chef's Skillet Burger got rave reviews from everyone that tried it. It was a HUGE burger with a lot going on. It was also pretty messy. It almost needed to be eaten with a knife and fork! Â
My husband tried the Racine's Best Reuben. Â He is REALLY picky when it comes to ruebens. Â He tried them everywhere, but often finds them lackluster. Â But, with a name like 'Racine's Best' he had to try it! Â Thankfully, it didn't disappoint! Â We all thought it was the best thing we tried all evening. Â The corned beef was awesome, but it was the rye bread that really made the sandwich. Â Seriously, for days after we went he was telling everyone he knew to go try their rueben. It was that good.
