I wouldn't even think about getting food here. Anytime im in Roanoke the people Im with always seems to want to go in here so they can dance. After you pay 10 bucks at the door you can go in. Last time I was like I will just go to one of the other 15 bars in the area and drink. They actually let me in with out paying and if I would have had cash I would have paid but I just didn't feel like walking to the ATM and pulling 20 bucks out. I go into the bar and get bumped by around 7 ghetto looking black guys on my way to the bar which is about 20 feet from the door. Once at the bar I had to stand there with my debit card in hand for about 5 min while the bartender guy was looking at the computer system. He looks at me and walks off to the bathroom area. I thought about leaving right then and there but my friend and her friends were out dancing so I decided to wait it out. I ended up getting a beer  about 10 minutes after I got to the bar. So I figured out why they charge at the door is because no one can order a drink pretty much. So if you like ghetto people and lame service go here for sure. I will never set foot back in this bar and Im actually surprised its still open. Someone could do something really nice to that building and make bank.

A fun place to go dancing when there is a DJ or live music on weekends.

I've gone here a few times with friends.  I'm not a heavy drinker but the bar seems competent enough the few times I've been with friends who have been drinking.

They have a fairly large dance area on nights there is music and dancing.

I've never eaten here or been for anything other than music and dancing but it was fine for that.

I recently stopped by 202 to buy a friend a quick birthday shot. Including myself, there were only five guest in the whole establishment accompanied by a DJ and one bartender. I ordered a corona for myself and a four horseman for my friend. The bartender handed me the corona and a PLASTIC cup containing the four horseman and told me it would be $11. I accepted the corona, but kindly asked him to serve the shot in some type of glassware. He looked at me as if I had literally asked him to perform a female circumcision and did not respond. So I said, "you know maybe a nice little shot glass or something I'm buying this for my friend's birthday and I don't want to give him plastic." He then breaks his silent streak and informs me that my friend had been drinking out of plastic all night. Funny, I didn't ask what he'd been drinking out of all night I asked for the drink to be served in glassware. Finally, he pours this mere shot into a tall highball glass. I pay and tip him $3 which is entirely too generous for such poor service. After my friend consumed the shot I took it upon myself to hand wash this glass in the men's room sink since apparently I was really putting a strain on the bartender by expecting to be served in glassware. That's a crazy theory I know. I handed it back to him, apologized for the inconvenience, and let him know that I washed the glass for him.  He then buried his nose in the glass and upon realizing the stench of alcohol was gone put it right back on the shelf of clean glasses he got it from.

Over the past few years 202 has obviously been undergoing some changes. Unfortunately, these changes have not been for the better. The weekend club portion has turned very low class, and gone from a place I used to frequent, to a place I would never consider going again. The staff used to be adequate minus the occasional uppity encounter, but now the service is consistently bad. There is this one juiced up bartender that obviously does not like to work, stands around drinking on the job and purposely ignoring customers. He gets and attitude with you when you try to grab his attention, and then proceeds to use his time to hit on the patrons. Good luck trying to get a drink from him, the last time I tried he was actually outside on the patio instead of working the bar (leaving the bar completely unattended) to talk about having unprotected sex to a group of girls. I mean, classy. I wrote the management about this guy once before, but apparently this is the type of service they want to provide because he's still there doing the same old thing. Disgusting.

I have only tried the food once before, and while the dining service was great, the food was mediocre at best. I wanted to try out the new vegetarian menu, so I ordered the cheese tortellini thinking that would be a very safe choice. It was very bland and came in an odd butter sauce that was not very enjoyable. My boyfriend ordered the ricotta dumplings and found his to be bland as well. They have potential there to be better, but I probably would not dine with them again in the future.

I had a blast at this club on Saturday night!! It was so crowded that the upstairs was blocked. The dance floor downstairs was bumpin! Great music. Plenty of places to roam, good looking people, the drinks were so-so. Long Island tea was bitter no sour mix and one bartender couldn't make it top shelf? The blonde female upstairs did best she could, sweet bartender by the way. Variety of ethnicitys partying together!! I will go again.

Blahhhaaahhaa!!  I guess if your hard up for a "club" experience and have never left the holler then this might be OK for y'all...Plastic cups...really??  The bartender was wearing an untucked t-shirt and looked like he could care less if he was handing you a drink or a Big Mac.  Five dollar cover for canned music from some "DJ"'s Spotify playlist.  They tried to give you an upscale facade but utterly failed at the details.

Food, UTTER FAIL. I read some of these reviews and concluded that they might have had a different concept at some point.  The food I saw was glorified pub food you would find at any Virginia bar trying to comply with ABC laws; fried sweet potatoes, chicken tenders, wings....wow that's original and overpriced.

Service; two bartenders, a bar back and a Martini Bartender.  The place might have had 50 people in it and you would have thought we were inconveniencing them for our four drinks.  Most of the people there were bachlorette parties and they were dancing.  Overall: I would not recommend this place unless before going to Dollar General you put on fleese sleeper pants and makeup and considered that getting dressed up.

202 HAS COME A LONG LONG WAY~~~ They have great food, fantastic bartenders, wonderful talent and events and a wonderful event and marketing person in DJ Jo Jo Soprano~~ What a talent he is in many ways~~~ Most of the time it is NO COVER~~ so I find it hard to believe that people say it is too expensive ~~ The food is out of this world....and again the bartenders really shine..... A great time any night of the week, and they also give back to the community~~~I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Before eating at 202 we reserved a table on Open Table. Made sure to clearly state my girlfriend's allergies in the reservation. We also stated them to the waitress. When the food came out the waitress promised us that the sauce on the plate was dairy free. After a bite or two my girlfriend was sure that it did have dairy. We flagged the waitress and she took it back. After a few minutes she returned with the same steak just wiped off (with some still left). If it had been undercooked it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but in the case of an allergen it could have meant the difference between enjoying the rest of the meal and spending the rest of the night holding her hair while she barfs in the toilet.

When we told the manager about the situation he did nothing. I work in the service industry and know what should have been done. After we got home I looked at my bank statement to see that I had been charged $7 more than I'd written on the receipt.

If you enjoy bland tasteless food (Cioppini), a staff that ignores your safety and a restaurant that charges more to your credit card than you paid for then by all means eat up.

Clubbers beware, this place is a big no-no. I along with 9 friends, not 2, not 1, NINE friends, went here, paid $10 PER PERSON, which comes out to $100 just for cover. After going inside, the amps blew 10 minutes in and the club refused to refund our money. We weren't the only victims either, there was chaos in the club and tons of people in our shoes trying to get their money back, they might've refunded like 10% of the people they pissed off.

To cut the story short, this management is shady, greedy, and will never see my face nor any of my friends' faces inside that building ever again. Hope your food keeps you afloat, since you charge an arm and a leg for something I could probably whip up in a Chef Boyardee kitchen.

We had a party of 10 for NYE and although most of the food was great one member of our group order a medium rare steak that came out well done. It took over 20 mins for him to get a correctly cooked steak. The waiter never even offered to bring him an app to hold him over. Don't bother coming here - not worth the time or MONEY.

I have been working in Roanoke and I took my team out for a celebration here.  Food was fine and the bar staff were good - ran up a $2,800 bill.  Good times had by all.

Until I received my credit card bill when I find out they charged me twice!  $5,600 in total, WTF?!

Spoke to someone there who told me they charged everyone twice in Dec by accident.  Seems pretty sketchy to me and I have to pay my bill whilst waiting for them to process the refund.  For that I will never return.

202 Market represents the kind of restaurant I hate the most: overpriced, pretentious, pretends to be something it's not. It's almost like somebody started this restaurant, wanting it to be like the hip eateries in DC or New York, without having been to NY or DC.

Luckily, I didn't have to pay since I was here on an interview outing, so to be fair, I don't know for sure that it's overpriced. I've just seen the menu and prices and became judgmental. Also the pictures on yelp of the entree plating is hilariously bad. I don't normally care about things like plating, especially since I'm a hole-in-the-wall kind of eater, but if you want to play at that level, then you will be judged at that level. We didn't have an actual meal here, just appetizers and drinks. The appetizers were lackluster. The cheeses were worse than what I can get at a Krogers. The egg rolls weren't special at all. The crabcakes were bland with an overbearing sauce. The beef toasts (they probably have some fancier name) were medium cooked slices of beef on a thin, buttery toast with shaved parmesan over it. The best part was the buttery, crunchiness of the toast. All very typical appetizers with no flavor to get excited about. The only reason I ate them was because I was hungry, and there were no other options.

What makes this restaurant even more obnoxious to me is that it has a business casual dress code, even though it's in Roanoke, VA. Most of the time, I dress up for a restaurant because the food and ambiance makes me want to dress nicely, not because it was a rule. With the exception of the five star establishments, having a dress code seems gauche.

I know I should have at least one real meal before I slightly diss a place, but I wouldn't want to come back for that.

My wife and I had no desire to cook, so we decided to tour the market square area, and came across 202.    We decided to give it a try, as they had some unusual items for the vegetarian palate.  The hostess was very pleasant and showed us the lounge area and the more formal dining area, which was a little noisy for our tastes.  We went for a booth in the lounge, ordered some beers, and looked over the menus.  They have a separate menu for the gallery and the lounge/bar, along with separate menus for wine and beer/cocktails.  While the beer and cocktails menu was reasonable in price, the wine was simply overpriced.  Yes, there were some more popular wines that are higher priced in restaurants, but here, it seemed like downright highway robbery.  We went with two local brews and looked over the dinner menu.  My wife, being vegetarian, has never been able to try buffalo sauce on something, so we went with the Buffalo Mushrooms appetizer for $10.  The prices on the gallery menu though were quite high, particularly for the full-portion menu items.  26 dollars was the average price for chicken and fish, slightly more if cow is your thing.  Wifey went with the vegetarian hotpot, I got the grilled salmon with lime-wasabi aioli and soy rice.
Wow...what the heck is this?  That was my wife's first reaction to the hotpot.  What appeared to be a large covered bowl full of food was really two handfuls worth of undercooked texmati rice with a few slivers of onion, soggy red bell pepper, and no mango (despite the description in the menu) with an oily, oversalted, coconut sauce.  I''ve had hot pot before, this isn't what it looks like.  For 20 bucks, you could go to the grocery store and buy yourself 6 boxes of rice-a-roni and it would still come out better than this.
The salmon dish was next and it turned out no better.  The same undercooked rice was the accompaniment to my salmon, which although was moist, was so salty, I found myself nowhere else to go to on the plate to relieve the sheer salt overload.  The lime-wasabi aioli was the only saving grace of the dish, but there isn't enough of it to make the rest of the meal palatable.
With dinner having been so unappealing, we didn't give 202 a chance for desert.  When I got the bill, I got the biggest shock of all.  The total bill for this meal was $80.   That may not seem to bad at a nice, sit down restaurant, but at a lounge/bar, that's just ridiculous.  The reason why it was partly so high was our server incorrectly charged us more for the mushrooms AND added a 20% gratuity without telling us.  The gift certificate we had stated 18% gratuity.  When I called the server out on it, I could see how upset he was that I said something.  He made  the excuse that their computer calculates it as such.   I'm sorry but whoever programmed that in the computer is the one at fault.  He fixed the bill and brought it back to us, but not before spending the next 10 minutes ignoring us.
Overall, our experience here was so disappointing.  It has the potential to be a great foodie place, but the way the food is cooked is just terrible and really overpriced on top of that.  If you are at 202 for drinks, go with the bar menu.  It looks more appetizing and won't cost you the rest of your night out.

Main complaint:  Price doesn't really justify average quality or quantity.

    Full review:

Came here for lunch.  It was quiet, there is wi-fi (though my VPN wouldn't work on their network), and the half soup and sandwich was alright.  I ordered the turkey and cheddar sandwich, though I'm afraid what I got was turkey and swiss.  However, the sandwich was served hot.  Unexpected detail.  The soup was a tomato bisque of sorts.  Average dish.  Not good enough to order again.

What takes off the other 2 stars?  I'm serious about my beer and I'm seriously disappointed with the facade here.  I ordered a Blue Moon draught w/ orange slice.  I got what I asked for, but they served it in what to the average person would look like a normal pint glass, when in fact it was heavy (thick) bottomed and tapered inside, so the illusion of a full draught beer is there.  The reality?  Probably not even 12 ounces.  It cost me $6.  Just two weeks ago I paid $7 for a draught beer in Manhattan around 5:30 p.m.  This is Roanoke, VA at lunch.  People here don't make that kind of money to pay $6 for a lunch beer.

My water glass post meal?  Very roomy on the inside, same dimensions outside.

Blues BBQ company that is literally right next-door charges $3.50/bottle for Blue Moon.  It's not draught, but the difference between a draught Blue Moon and a bottle isn't significant enough for me to pay $2.50 extra before tip.

My bill was $13.64 for what looks to be very close to an actual cup (8 oz.) of soup, half sandwich, a beer, and tax.

The server was friendly and timely.  No issues there.  But the bill was pricey.  It's okay to sit for the internet while having a drink or lunch (not both), but I won't order both at lunch again.  Will likely try somewhere else if hungry and thirsty.  If you're on a business trip and you can expense it, fine.

For the casual diner, I'd try Corned Beef and Co down the block or just hang out at Mill Mountain Coffee for lunch if you don't want a beer or cocktail.  Pleasant atmosphere, great coffee, Wi-Fi, and quiet enough if you need to talk business.

This place is a gem in Market Square, downtown Roanoke.  Exceptionally friendly staff, nicely decorated, clean, attractive.  I had the lobster bisque to start; it was a red bisque, a little spicy, but exceptional.  The lobster pieces were about 1/2 inch in diameter.  The lime-ginger crusted salmon was perfectly cooked--one of the few places that has ever asked how I wanted salmon cooked!  Coconut rice, soy beans, carrots and wasabi oil complete the dish.  The sweetness of the rice nicely counters the strong salmon flavor.  There are two sizes; I think the smaller portion will be plenty for most diners.  Only minor complaint--and it is minor--is the length of time it took for the food to arrive.  Definitely a "don't miss" in the star city.

Tried this place twice for drinks only. First time was alright but I felt like the service was lacking. Gave it another try a year or so later and the service was even more lacking, not to mention the bartender didn't know how to make a drink that one of my friends ordered. My friend offered to tell her, any advice was rejected, and she was presented with a drink that was not what she ordered AT ALL.

My wife and I recently went in for drinks and ended up having a cheeseburger at the bar.  I'd have to say it was the best cheeseburger I've had in Roanoke.  The fries were great too.  The bartenders were friendly and the decor is very nice.  We'll be back for sure.

I took my client here for dinner and we both enjoyed our meal immensely. I had the trout and she had the scallops, and it was truly wonderful food.

I also enjoyed a couple of fine local ales - Roanoke's Loose Caboose - which was extremely pleasant.

We ate in the "fine dining" place in the back  - it's a well furnished, intimate, art adorned backroom- which is really super, and a bit if of a surprise. I wasn't so impressed at first blush when I walked in as the bar and cafe out front look as if they were designed by the guy who did Mexico City airport in 1974.  All this design overkill inside, and not a lot of intuitive design and signage outside as we had to try  3 different sets of doors before we got in.

But if you are looking for a pleasant dining experience with good food this is the spot in Roanoke.

My wife and I went here on a search for something new as well as a place that served local beer. We found both, but didn't care for the atmosphere.

This place has an identity crisis. It's a very large space that looks to be a hip nightclub, bar and family restaurant all in one. And the bright colors made me noxious.

And what's with the water stains on the wall behind the stage? Fix that; it's nasty!

The outside design makes it look better than it is.

Our server was polite and very attentive however. This helped with the experience.

Our food was pretty good though not exceptional. I did enjoy my Roanoke Railhouse lager though. Yum.

I won't put this place at the top of my list for restaurants, but might go back for the beer.

I had one experience in the place. I will generally be willing to give a place a few more tries before I go as low as a one star, but this place deserves it. I realize this is one of the closest things to a hip, fine dining restaurant that Roanoke has, but my meal still shouldn't take almost 3 hours when we are only having 3 courses.

Essentially, our server disappeared for half an hour or more at a time between things like taking our order, our food appearing, bringing a dessert menu, our desserts arriving, and bringing our check.

I almost missed the last bus of the evening waiting on his return so I could pay and leave. I have never had any meal take that long, ever. If I'm not going to a chef's tasting menu, I don't expect to wait an hour per dish, especially not if I'm ordering things as quick and simple as pasta or stir fry. That's ridiculous!

Given the amount we paid for 2 people in Roanoke, it was completely unacceptable for our server, who only had a couple of other tables, to completely disappear into the back area for that long without even asking how our table is doing or to explain the extraordinary wait from the kitchen.

    My suggestions to improve yourselves:
    1. Give your hostess a uniform.  I understand I should be able to tell the girl in the tie-dye hippie dress works there and all...
    2. HOW DO YOU MESS UP A BLT?!?!!?! I mean the dried out, stale rock of a bun it was served on was great all, but maybe next time we can try something different? Oh and buy real bacon. The pre-cooked bacon you buy off the shelf is NOT acceptable- unless you are a starving college student.
    3. I finished my entire meal before my server brought me another drink...which she promised was coming soon.  She was sweet, so I'm blaming this on the bar.  I saw her three times before I finally got my second drink, which I was in desperate need of from my dried out BLT.
    4. How about we fire the 40 something DJ that looked like my dad? Seriously the music sucked. MC Hammer? Oh aren't you so clever in your obscure 90s music choices.
    5.  You have a wanna be club atmosphere, sports on the tvs, outdoor dining, a bar menu AND a "fine dining room"  Identity crisis much?

I would NEVER recommend anyone coming here. There was not one thing I enjoyed.  Oh well my boyfriends short ribs were pretty tasty... but not for the $.  Do you think by charging $30 a plate, it automatically makes it worth it?

I don't know if i went on some bizarrely off night with all new staff or something, because everyone else seemed to enjoy this place.  I on the other hand have never NOT enjoyed some place more. Worst part of my trip to Roanoke with out a doubt.

My boyfriend and I went to 202 Market after we purchased one of their gift certificates on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a>. It's a bit pricey, so that was definitely a good way to give it a try. We both enjoyed the atmosphere of the place, and how it is sectioned off. They had a fine dining area, a more casual dining area, and a bar...it sort of allowed you to choose your ambience for the evening.

Their menu is pretty eclectic, which is something that I look for when choosing a restaurant. I ended up choosing the crab cakes and my boyfriend got the filet. Both were prepared very well. Portion sizes were pretty good too, I was full, but not overly so. We also got dessert, chocolate banana bread pudding with banana ice cream and chocolate pop-rocks (how cool is that!?). It was awesome. We shared it, it was pretty small, though a good size considering we were already full from dinner. However, it was a little pricey ($9) for it's size.

As for the service, our server was very nice, though a bit on the slow side. Everyone else was great though. The manager visited our table once, and the chef came out twice to give us suggestions and ask how everything was. That probably impressed me the most. It's great to see a restaurant that really puts some extra effort into customer service.

After checking out the Roanoke Strawberry Festival, we ventured downtown in search for food. I've heard a lot about the 202 Market and its modern twist on food but never really had the chance to taste it. So, with no hesitation, off we went.

The food here is amazing. The staff is knowledgeable of every single item on the menu. I personally like the fact that they have recommended wine pairings for all their items on the menu list.

I had a big eye tuna tartare with wasabi granita, soy, ginger, lime sauce which was fabulous and the watermelon and blue cheese salad with bibb lettuces and pistachio-lime dressing The Lover picked the pulled pork sandwich with slaw, pickles, and tortilla chips. He didn't talk to me the whole time; he was enjoying it.  With its chic presentation and excellent portioning, not to mention a nice minimalistic dining room, the price is UNBELIEVABLE.

They showcase a full bar and a wine list that's not to be ignored.
With that said, we give the 202 Market FIVE stars because afterall it is as good as it gets in the Roanoke Valley area.

This is a really odd place.

It has a great looking design inside, and staff seem fairly courteous, but it also feels incredibly out of place for the area.  It seems they are trying hard.

There is a little bit of superiority in the air, I'll admit I wasn't that properly dressed having been on the road for a bit and quite exhausted, but when I asked about what the dress code was the hostess repeated again if I wanted to sit at the bar.  What are you trying to hide me or something?  Normally if there is something specific I need to wear I'd probably go back to the hotel and change if I really wanted to check it out.  The place was also incredibly empty for a Friday night dinner at 8.

After the introduction, though it was time to look at the menu.  For some reason you're given 2.  Why???  This makes no sense at all to me and tried to show some sort of air of superiority.  Oh do you want the cheap menu?  Or do you want the real food?  Shouldn't they BOTH be good???

Finally the menu was just dyslexic...  Veal Spetzel, hot pots, crab cake, salmon, gnocchi, it was just really a bizarre list.  So what is this places identity?  The crab cake is offered at a fairly hefty price but is claimed to come from Maryland.  The veal is milk fed... not grass fed.

However, the food items I had were actually all done very well.  Grilled shrimp is de-veined nicely and filled with some nice lemon tang.  I went for the beef and it was cooked right with a decent bearnaise, and nicely grilled asparagus however, the addition of goat cheese made no sense and they could have done something better with the potatoes.  Was it worth $32 dollars????  Kind of pushing it... sort of borderline...

I don't think the prices are too bad, but they seem a little bit out of wack for the area.  However, the main food items are for the most part done pretty good.  Service is acceptable.

I do have to admit they had a pet peeve of mine which was serving red wine far too warm than it should be...

The place also seems to have some sort of club scene, so I don't know if that makes a great dining setting... luckily I was out of there before that started taking off.

So I can't say I'd go back, but it's certainly not awful.  But there are some good items, and I wouldn't necessarily steer anyone away.

4 stars in the context of dtown Roanoke.

Food is slightly above average. Presentation is good. Surroundings aim for kitschy , but nothing too ridiculous.

    Food:
+ Pulled pork sliders are excellent and come with little injectors of delicious sauce
+ Seared scallops with thin slices of mango and prosciutto are really good as well
+ Complimentary fresh sourdough and herbs/cheese bread are fantastic
    - Seared tuna entrée though looking great had several flaws: tuna (according to the waitress) was to be seared on one side and medium-rare on the other. They had the sear more than down, but the medium-rare side was just not so. The coconut rice accompanying the entrée was WAY too sweet. Definitely not something you want to be spooning in with your bites of tuna

Although the waitress was nice, she completely neglected picking up our credit card after dropping off the check; the restaurant was pretty much empty on a Wednesday at 630 p.m. After finally chasing her down and handing the check to her, I felt a little disappointed. Or maybe it was just the disappointment in the entrée shining through.

Prices are higher than average for dtown Roanoke, service is genuine but can be slow. Food has a degree of inspiration, but certain items can fall way short. Come here for a quiet, "trendy" dinner, and do try a pint of their local beer (if you like hoppy ones).

A real find in downtown Roanoke, across the street from Awful Arthur's.  Apparently this location has changed management and names many times, so who knows what will be here in 2 years, when I return to this town.   This review is for the bar only - and what a cool bar it is.  Something you'd see in Old Town Alexandria or DC--not really expected in Roanoke.  The prices - unreal.  The best thing about the place.  We got out of there after two beers and a Maker's Mark on the rocks.  The bill came to $15!   The service was pretty attentive.  But they started cranking the Godawful house/trance/techno shit at 10:30 (again, trying to mimic DC)...time to wrap it up.

This place met all my marks: hip atmosphere, delicious food, and great service. This trendy lounge bar/restaurant was a special treat after having driven across the country to move my fiancé from CA to VA. We went out to dinner with some of his fellow Carillion interns, and my mouth is still watering thinking of the salmon that was so perfectly cooked it melted in my mouth, the crispy asparagus, and arugula salad. My fiancé had their filet mignon, mashed potatoes, and ceaser salad. The meat was juicy, the salad fresh, and the potatoes were creamy.
The atmosphere is modern lounge style. Colorful contemporary art, track lighting, and an electric blue lit bar. I will most certainly be going back, if not for dinner, than certainly a cocktail.

I've lived in many different cities and travel a lot--and I've also been to many bars, clubs, and restaurants...  With that said, I think 202 tries a little TOO hard for the South Beach vibe.  The food is fair, a little over priced to be honest, but their happy hour (from 4-7) may be its saving grace.  I will continue to visit though, because it is a fun place to do some dancing on those weekend nights.

Hint: get there a little before the crowd trickles in and save yourself the cover on weekends.

I came here for drinks while on business, and I have to say for having someplace like this in Roanoke, I was impressed. They did a good job with creating an ambience. There were people in there chilling getting drinks and some even playing cards. Laid back atmosphere, decent music. The bartenders were pretty slow though, I must add. Drinks were made well, however.

I visited when it first open but seems 202 is losing their touch of class.

Food = Excellence but a little pricey for area. Great dinner but not much attraction in Roanoke after that.

    Staff = Excellence

202 Entertainment = Very Poor! Typical bar atmosphere. Karaoke, poor local bands, etc... Again don't expect much after the wonderful dinner. Takes more than modern furniture, lighting and fixtures to impress folks from metropolitan venues.

Recommendation to 202 = Comedy!  Bring in a good name comedian from time to time. Please don't go on the lets "save cash locals"

    I would attempt another visit.

We hosted my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary here.  My sisters and I, all three, live in separate states now.  It was amazing how the event coordinator could pull it all together for us.  Everything was done over the phone or via e-mail, but the staff was wonderful.  Our parents were totally shocked and enjoyed every minute of it.  Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time and we have many fabulous memories from this event.  Thanks 202!

Dont let the front room drive you away!  My wife and I were looking for a good restraunt, and Yelp led us here.  We got to the front door, and saw 40+ year old drunk people dancing to horrible top 40s with strobe lights and streamers.  But we trudged on to the backroom where food is served.  Much better.

I had the salmon.  It was marvelous.  Cooked to perfection, with a ginger glaze.  Came alongside veggies and some wasabi shmear.

After dinner had to walk past the dancefloor again, and the highlight of my dining experience was seeing some guy pound an entire green drink through a straw while Bar Mitzvah mix 2005 blasted on the speakers.  Good times.

Hands down the best short rib I've ever had in my entire life. It was topped with a horseradish foam which was unreal. I've been obsessed with foam on food lately so this made me super excited. It came with some veggies and cheddar grits. I would have licked my plate but I was so damn full. We started off with some olives and pickles which were fun., Also the pulled pork tacos which came with a bunch of goodies. There were so many fun appetizers on the menu that I could of made a meal off that. The wine list is also very fun.
The best part about this place are the tv screens where you can see them prepping the food. It is absolutely fascinating to watch. When I'm at home I am glued to the food network so anything that I get to see happening in the kitchen is pretty exciting to me.
The service was wonderful, our waitress was super helpful and very on top of it.
Its also attached to a club/venue. We didn't stick around there but people were dancing and drinking green beer (its st pattys weekend) They seemed to be having fun but the soundtrack was a total bar mitzvah mix.
Go for the food, you will not be let down!!

What a great addition to Roanoke's downtown scene!  202 Market opened just a few weeks ago.  It is Roanoke's newest live music venue and so much more.

I enjoyed dinner there last night with some business colleagues.  Being a Tuesday, the dining room was virtually empty, save for one other table.  Not bad, though, as we had the chef's undivided attention.  My meal (grilled scallops appetizer, filet main course, and a decadent chocolate desert) priced out at just over $50 and my glass of wine (very nice Australian Shiraz) at $6.00 per glass.  The cuisine is chic, a bit out of my normal liking, but extremely well done - especially if you like somewhat rich food in smaller portions (which is how rich food ought to be served).

Beyond the cuisine, the downstairs bar offers an upscale atmosphere with a nice variety of wines by the glass, cold beers, and cocktails.  There is a stage for weekend live music - the Average White Band performed here to a packed house a few weeks ago.  Upstairs is a piano bar.  "Interesting" art hangs on the wall, and all is for sale.  Although the $5,000 oil painting behind our table was rather strange in my opinion, maybe they'll sell a few of them...

For me, this is more of a location for before dinner apertifs or after dinner nightcaps as the food is not totally to my style.  But do check it out for yourself.  The doctors/owners have done a marvelous renovation to this building and offer Roanoke a unique evening venue.
