Oh, expensive bowling, you are not my favorite. Let's be honest...bowling is bowling, no matter how much you try to class it up.
Here's my assessments of the pro/con breakdown of 300 :
Pros
- It's nice to walk up to one counter to get a ball and shoes and not have to wander around sticking your hands in a hundred balls.
- It's convenient to press a button and have a server come up and take your food and drink order instead of walking to a counter.
- The ambiance is more upscale than your typical bowling alley.
- They usually have lanes open during weeknights, since unlike regular bowling alleys, they don't seem to have leagues.
Cons
- Pricey for bowling, about 50% more expensive than a "regular" bowling alley for individual games.
- Food & drink service times are pretty slow. As in, order two drinks at once. And if you're thinking of having dessert, order it in frame 1 of your last game so you actually get it before you're ready to leave
- Food & drink are pretty expensive considering the quality.
- The seating areas at the lanes didn't seem conducive to hanging out and talking if you have more than 3 people in your group.
Bottom line...If you're willing to pay a premium for the scene and tip for slow service on meh food, this is the place for you. I'll likely be headed elsewhere for my bowling needs in the future, though.
I was at 300 for a private event and had a great time. I'm quite surprised to read they have a 2 1/2 star average at the time I'm writing this review. The staff treated us like rock stars! The food was great, the service was super friendly and prompt, and the cosmic bowling was fun. There was a private bathroom available for us, they took our drink orders and brought them right to us (we didn't have to go to the bar), and put the football game we wanted on the big screens. I seriously couldn't ask for anything more. The people working there seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs.
I was especially impressed by the food. I was expecting your typical "bar food" type stuff but it was well beyond that. We picked the Italian pasta catering package and it was ample and delicious. Lots of options to choose from (salads, pastas, chicken, etc).
In closing, I don't know anything about bowling in the main area, but I would absolutely recommend them for a private event.
