I managed to find a groupon for this place as I was looking forward to trying it when it first switched owners and re-opened. The groupon was for lunch and just something to keep in mind is that they stop serving breakfast and lunch food at 2pm.
I went with a few friends and we all ordered something different. I stuck with a classic and got the chicken salad. It was pretty tasty with grapes and almonds in it that added the right amount of crunch and flavor. I got pretty full after eating just half and took the rest home for a snack. One of my friends go the habanero blueberry burger - their special for the day - which they repeatedly claimed was crazy spicy - but I had bite and completely unfazed. My other friend got one of their wraps which are also pretty hearty and flavorful. As for the drinks, I got a frozen lemonade that just mediocre and another friend got their blonde iced coffee. I think it was almost too blonde because it left a weird after taste in my mouth and it didn't almost taste like coffee. I was not impressed.
All and all, it was only a decent experience. The service was pretty good as the cashier was really welcoming and helpful, but that was really the extent of the service. The food is good enough for a small cafe like this but nothing spectacular. Its priced pretty moderately for a cafe of this size and  scale. I might be just to try other coffees and give it a second chance, but most likely not.
This place is really laid back with a wide variety of foods, drinks, music, etc. Â There are outdoor tables if you have a dog that wants to tag a long. Â Very comfortable seating area. Â I noticed Yelp doesn't say they have Sunday hours, but they do (9 - 5). Â I sent that in Yelp. Â Hopefully they'll change that.
Review Source:Very cool place. It's a cafe with inexpensive drinks, books, wifi, and wine. A very comfortable, laid-back place. Staff was very friendly and it's a wonderful place to sit and have a conversation with a friend.
The kitchen isn't always open so if you want hot food it's not always an option. I went for a late breakfast and ordered french toast and hash browns. I'm sad to say neither was very impressive. I had a handful of cold hash browns and french toast that was black as much as it was brown. The syrup came in a little plasticky container rather than a bottle/something with a spout, which is just a Pet Peeve of mine. A thimble of syrup is not sufficient for my breakfast needs.
I wouldn't do the french toast again, but I might give a sandwich a try. In either event, that doesn't take away from what makes this place a winner in my eyes: a place to have a conversation and a drink, coffee or otherwise. There is outdoor seating and I hear-tell live music.
Good people, good chai, wine list. I'm in!
I really like this place! I've only been here for brunch, but really interested in coming back for drinks and live entertainment in the evening.
It has an "oh so cool" coffee shop interior. Vaguely reminds me of the coffee shop Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey and Chandley would hang out at on FRIENDS- minus the smelly cat renditions. Very eclectic feel and friendly staff.
The food is actually good, especially for being a coffee shop. The biscuits are handmade and they serve chicken sausage instead of traditional pork. Coffee is good quality- not bitter at all.
Overall I would recommend this place if you are in the neighborhood on a weekend and looking for brunch. I can already tell we will be regulars here.
I'm giving this place five stars because it's one of the only places locally I've found that makes a really good latte. You know the kind: perfectly made espresso base, a thick, silky foam, even the occasional bit of latte art. The cafe itself has a lovely, informal atmosphere and you can lounge back and enjoy a cup.
I honestly can't speak for the food. It looks good enough, but probably not amazing (which is fine, honestly.) But if you're looking for a really good latte and nothing else will do -- this is the place. My husband is quite fond of the chai latte they make here as well -- it's not as cloyingly sweet as you'll typically find most places.
The service was excellent. Very friendly staff, very friendly atmosphere.
I like this place. Â They have good high quality coffee. Â Â it is spacious so you are always bound to find a seat. Â They also have a number of affordable wines by the bottle which makes this a very plausible low key date or drink spot. Â
I have been here twice. Â Once for coffee and once for lunch. Â The lunch options are just OK. Â Â We had the Panini and the cheese steak. Â Both were not bad, just nothing amazing. Â Â Â So from this review I would say this place is great for coffee and drinks, and the food is just an added convenience.
They have live music here on the weekends, and overall I am just happy to finally discover the Oasis that is downtown Norcross, in an otherwise boring segment of Metro Atlanta.
Me and my family went to this cafe recently and everyone enjoyed their visit, the coffee was excellent (as it should if you are a cafe), and the service was friendly. We had breakfast and we were very happily surprised at the quality and taste of everything served (the kids asked for more). It is definitely a place we will come back to for its decor, service, food, drink, and ambiance.
Review Source:I do love 45 South. We go there about once a month for music and drinks and/or coffee. The last time we went (late December), we saw one of the best music groups we have ever seen anywhere. It was Lori Perozzi and a jazz trio/quartet. She has the most beautiful voice and if you see her listed anywhere GO! Lori, please come to Eddie's Attic or Eddies in Duluth!
45 South deserves a LOT of credit for giving musical artists a chance to exercise their craft!! Enjoy a nice cappucino, wine or beer and listen to some great music (or not so great, depending!)
I found this place a nice surprise after walking in the sun all afternoon with my dad and sister at a local park. We had some drinks, me iced tea which was very tasty.
I loved all of the books they had and you can buy them for a small donation. I want to return when there is live music, you can read the schedule on large chalkboards on the wall.
I could see myself having a little function or party there, it is the perfect size and has an old town feel but still is modern with its drink options and alcohol too.
I also liked their long hours as many places around there seemed to have close at 4 or 5 on a Monday evening even though there were plenty of families and people still strolling the streets of the little downtown.
We stopped by for rainy afternoon coffee but unfortunately, the front entrance is inaccessible to patrons in wheelchairs. One of us dashed inside while the other waited outside in the drizzle.
The friendly waitress was apologetic and graciously delivered the order outside, but the manager (owner?) seemed unconcerned and somewhat defensive about the 3-4 inch impediment when it was brought to his attention and incredulous that it presented a problem to a mobility-challenged customer. He even joked about taking the step at high speed in a power chair. While he noted that the back alley entrance is on grade (we struggled to enter that way the last time we tried to visit), he admitted it would be a problem with current construction.
Had he bothered to stop reading his newspaper and step outside to greet a unique customer and learned about how he could accomodate clientele with similar needs (more easily and inexpensively than he might imagine), he would have gained a loyal pair of customers who readily refer others to their favorite local merchants.
In this case, the drinks weren't that special and the national coffee chain wins its stars.
45 South has a pretty hip singer/songwriter music scene. Â I love to go in and see who's playing on any given Friday or Saturday night. Â They serve beer and wine which is great for relaxing and listening to live music. Â Wish the music started a little later since it's nice to go after eating in one of the nearby restaurants.
They have a really good breakfast and lunch menu. Â No dinner, but you can generally get a piece of quiche any time.
Their hours, menus, and events do morph a bit, but I understand the owner is trying to see what works best. Â They've really come a long way since he bought it.
Norcross would not be the same without 45 South!
I've been patronizing Northern Star (now 45 South cafe) for about 8 years. Â It has always been a wonderful, cozy location to go have coffee or a glass of wine; great service, great atmosphere, great drinks. Â I would give it a 4 or 5 star rating, but I do have a few gripes:
1) The hours seem to change on a yearly basis, which makes it hard to know whether it will be open. Â Particularly the Sunday hours are a pain to keep track of - I've lost track of whether they're open on Sundays or not this year.
2) For a while they offered great wine tastings run by an amazing Sommelier. After attending these tastings for months on end, they were suddenly ended with no warning or apology. It was a big disappointment and a pretty poor business decision.
Still, I try not to hold these slights against the cafe, and I stop in frequently for coffee. Â The wifi is great, and it's a good place to work remotely for a few hours while enjoying a white mocha and some quiche.
This is the perfect small-town, downtown coffee shop.
Great drinks, live music, delicious desserts, and a friendly staff. It's got "Norcross" written all over it.
The atmosphere is perfect for a post-dinner night cap or just an afternoon chat with an old friend. The location couldn't be better in the quaint downtown and the incredibly cute back porch makes it easy to enjoy.
