8 China Buffet

Oh my goodness, what an instantaneous downslide.  This was one of my family's favorite go to buffets. decent sushi; great weekend items.  a lot of choices. etc. etc.  within the last month or so they lowered the price and took away everything that made this place worth going to.  There is no point in bothering with it anymore.  they point out "but we lowered the price."  who cares?  they destroyed what made the restaurant worthwhile.  Did they think they had to compete with Teppanyaki?  Why?  This was much better and worth the price differential.  No Longer.

It's a buffet.  If you're a snob about buffets, don't eat here.  Not hard.

This is one of the best buffets we've found in the area--the food is usually kept refreshed, the waitresses check for dirty plates and needed refills frequently, and the variety of food available is impressive.  They have a decent sushi assortment for a buffet, and on Saturday they even have dim sum items.  Since one of Indy's two dim sum restaurants (no, Shanghai Lil doesn't count) seems to vanished into the abyss of infinite "closed for remodeling" this is wonderful.  The har gau isn't as good as you'd get at an actual dim sum place, but the congee is gingery and delicious.  If you order hot tea on Saturday you also get the whole pot rather than just a cup.

I prefer this place to The Journey--not as ridiculously hyped-up or overpriced.

We used to frequent this place for lunch but the quality of food has steadily gone down. We (co-workers) after a year decided to give it another try but the food was not much better. The place is showing its age, many of the booths are ripped and the carpets are old and musty. Why anyone eats here is a puzzle to me. Maybe dinner is better. PS: my son and his friends have stopped going here as well and they used to eat there almost monthly.
