I love the different toppings you can get on your burger. Options like Hawaiian with a slice of pineapple or Texan with BBQ and jalepenos. I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of their fries. But, I think that's personal preference because my fiance loves them. The chocolate milkshakes taste like blended Count Chocula. The best I've ever had. I don't like eating there because they always have Fox News playing. Just put it on a channel that's neutral.

Not impressed with 96th Street Steakburgers for many reasons:

Their steakburgers: we found them to be dry and overcooked -- NOT a contender for Steak 'n Sheak. These are edible but forgettable. I can almost guarantee you'll wish you went somewhere else. Even with a mustard grilled bun -- flavor was lacking.

Fries: totally awful. I can tolerate a lot of bad fries but these were unsavable. They were bland, not crunchy, and just plain bad. Reminscent of cardboard. These went almost completely uneaten.

The restaurant itself: it's LOUD. I often put up with a loud restaurant if the food can hold my attention...but the only thing to do here was throw away our uneaten portions and get out of here to avoid a head ache.

    Not a fan.

I came in hoping for a better, somewhat more sophisticated restaurant than Steak and Shake, which was a mainstay of my high school days. I left disappointed. The burger I got was decent - the blue cheese on it actually had some appreciable flavor, and it all went together quite nicely. That's about where the positive part of my experience ended.

This was probably the loudest restaurant I've ever been in. Something about the acoustics amplified all of the noise in the open floor plan to the point that we couldn't have a conversation without yelling - I would be okay with that in a crowded bar, but it was just unbearable for lunch at 1PM. Throw in a couple of obnoxious screaming kids, lots of flashy signage everywhere, and the somewhat uncomfortable seating, and you can guarantee I will never visit this place again except to go through the drive through.

The fries were a flavorless overcooked mess, but the burger was good enough that I would be wiling to come back. Maybe.

Clean restaurant and fast, though unfriendly, service. Their hand cut fries are flavorless, burgers blah and chicken tenders the texture and flavor of cardboard. A group of 4 and no one left happy with this choice.

This place is an inviting place to come. The decor is clean and modern but lacking a bit of excitement; maybe the background music was off or not the right type. The burgers were just ok. The meat is good but the overall sandwich is just mediocre, and very messy. I had to wash my hands just to take a drink. The pickles were still cucumbers!! I ordered mine "Philly style" which added cheese sauce and sautéed onions and peppers. This was added to the default toppings; pickle (cucumber), lettuce, tomato, and thousand island dressing. That makes a really weird combination which made it seem as if there was not any thought into the sandwich; only a "I guess we could do this" decision. The price was pretty steep too. The fries were pretty tasty but really thin and overdone. I believe the oil needed changes in the fryers. We finished our meal with some M&M cookies. They were good but still not enough to bring us back. Too bad too, cause we live in walking distance from here.

In--n-Out has nothing to worry about.

I've never lived in California, but every time I'm near an In-n-Out Burger, I have to go, whether it's in Las Vegas, LA, or now in the Dallas area. So I was very excited to see the favorable comparisons of this place to In-n-Out. I live in Illinois, and get over to Indy a few times a year, and am always interested in trying new places. After reviewing their menu, it seems obvious that the owners are emulating the simple menu of In-n-Out, so that's another point of encouragement.

Unfortunately, the execution was lacking. Maybe we caught them on a bad day, but all four orders of fries were way overcooked to a deep brown. We probably should have sent them back, but didn't . (Heck, being my first time here, I thought maybe that's how they cook them...and for all I know, it is!) The burger didn't seem to suffer from any preparation issues, but was nothing exciting...wasn't bad, but wasn't memorable either. They did offer some add-ons that would potentially set them apart, but seeing as this was my first time there, I wanted to stick with their standard fare to give a good comparison to the place they are trying to mimic. We did share a shake, which was tasty, but you REALLY have to go out of your way to mess up a milkshake, don't you?
Overall, I'd say if you're driving by and want a burger, give it a try. Hopefully your experience will be better than mine. Or for better food, swing through the Chipotle right next door!

The fries here are top-notch, just the way I like 'em and make 'em. The buns were a little stale but the burgers were good

Snap! Talk about new competition in town. This place has great burgers at affordable prices. Some talk about the comparison to In 'N Out and it definitely can mimic In 'N Out.

Burger: Pretty Good. I enjoy the pickle spears on the side in addition to the pickles inside the burger (I'm crazy for pickles). Had the double cheeseburger and it was cooked the way I wanted. The juices ran down the paper so quickly that I knew I was getting a mouthwatering slab of beef.

Fries: I found these to be only Average. They are not crispy, cut rather thin, and just don't have any memorable taste about them.

Milkshake: The Oreo milkshake had good chunks of cookie and was not as thick. Did not have a strong dairy smell but also was not as watery as a Johnny Rockets milkshake - perfect for a on-the-go milkshake. Not too thick that it will kill you to try to drink through the straw but not too watery that it will be all melted in 5 min.

Service: The wait for food was not too bad. They take orders and start on them rather promptly.

Could it be an In 'N Out of Indy? Definitely worth the thought.

This place is awesome.  I wish they had a location a little closer to Broad Ripple.  The burgers are great.  The thing I like the most is how simple the menu is.  Burgers, fries and shakes... that's all you really need!

My favorite is the hand cut fries.  They are amazing.  For me, its worth driving from Brip to have one of these burgers.

I think that this is a good place if you want a good burger. The fries are decent. I love their strawberry milkshake. It is made using the real strawberry syrup. My friend had a vanilla milkshake which I thought was decent as well.

Some of the reviewers seem to be making so pretty bold claims about this place, and I'm not really getting it. I mean it was a good burger, but not life-altering by any means. Also the set up of the place totally threw me off. I was expecting diner feel, but it felt more like a Qdoba than a diner. One interesting note for you non-gluten eaters, they do offer a burger with a lettuce wrap instead of a bun.

If you have read any of my previous reviews about burger joints, my expectations tend to be fairly high if you boast "the best burgers in town" or something similar.  I did enjoy these steakburgers of the burgers I've had lately.  They were juicy and had all the right toppings and I really liked their dressing as well.  What I did not like...the price!  I was shocked that for three double cheeseburgers and one fry, I spent almost $20.  I guess, if you have a drive thru, and sell ground chuck as your main course, I don't see why I have to pay out the ass for it.  But alas, I did and it was good.  I will go back....when I'm craving an overpriced, well dressed chunk of cow.

Steakburgers and milkshakes - you're thinking Steak N Shake, right? Well, next time you have that kind of craving, go here instead and experience fresh ingredients and amazing milkshakes. The simplicity of the menu is part of what makes this place so great - when you don't have all these items to throw around behind the scenes, you can focus on your main dish - your burger! The fries are excellent - they're a little brown because of the potatoes or the way they're cooked, but never burnt! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an alternative to fast food.

I moved here from Southern CA a couple years back, and have been craving a GOOD burger.

I found this place yesterday, and I have to say that, in my opinion, it's better than In N Out. Way. Something about the sauce on the burgers just did it for me. Granted, I am one of the very few meat eaters that never really got off on In N Out....But, I have had it several times, and this place beats it.

The inside is clean, the guys that were working were very nice, food came out quickly. There's vinegar for the fries...that in itself gets a couple stars. The drive through was seeming to go very quickly.
As a previous reviewer stated, the food looks like the pictures. They're not sloppy, and I can appreciate that. They wrap the burgers half style, and I also dig this.

I don't like the fact that they don't have anything for kids...A single adult sized burger will go to waste on just about any kid under the age of 6.

I did not have the milkshake, but will. Soon!

As close as you can get to In-N-Out without going to the West Coast. Great burgers, great milkshakes.

Decent burger place with a fun, vintage feel. Favorite here is the chocolate shake, but that's not news to anyone reading the other reviews. I'm thinking it's not that different than Steak 'n Shake, though, other than it has way less on the menu.

Not that many veg heads would go to a joint with "Steakburger" in the name, but in case you're one, and you find yourself confused and in their parking lot, just know you'll only be getting a grilled cheese here ... not much else to choose from. Actually...there is nothing else.

Burgers are good, though. I still favor a burger on the grill in my own back yard, but this is a decent option.

Apparently this place isn't anywhere near as gourmet as In-N-Out (so say my West Coast compadres), but I don't care. Everything is fresh and hot and ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE THE PICTURES. The milkshakes are out of this world. And any place that serves malt vinegar with their French fries is all right by me.

I never understood why some women prefer food over sex until I went to this place.

The mecca of food in Indianapolis.  This is In-N-Out Burger but on this side of the Mississippi River.  Do I have to continue with the review?  I can frequently been found driving 30 minutes from my apartment to this place just because it's that damn good (and I'm lazy so you can imagine!).

The menu is limited to burgers, fries, AMAZING milkshakes, and I believe grilled cheese? You'd have to check out their website.  At any rate, I think you get where I'm going with this.

I always get the number 4 (single burger, french fries) and substitute a chocolate milkshake.  Just get your tookas up there already!

Be careful though... if you go at lunchtime on a weekend, the place is usually swamped.  I usually go after work or sometime like before 11am or after 1pm to avoid the rush.
