wow, i am so shocked by the previous review! Â but... Â i never eat anything besides the tuna sandwich and an occassional baked good. Â what i like about the sandwich - it's very simple and fresh, the bread is crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, the tuna salad is not too mayo-y, and it's a real tuna salad with celery and relish. Â ok, i've ocassionally noticed brown lettuce, but almost always, the lettuce and tomato are fresh. Â it's also super cheap, less than 5 bucks. Â
the one thing i don't like is that they always put my sandwich in a plastic bag, even if i'm eating there. Â so i save my bags and recycle them, but it's still a waste.
I usually get the "Big Al" which is a turkey club sandwich with bacon. Â It's a pretty decent sandwich and I like the multigrain bread they put it on. Â I go there at least once every two weeks and never had my order messed up yet. Â I tried their several of their soups and didn't care for them, but the garlic bread was good though. (I don't think it's possible to screw up garlic bread).
Review Source:Their food is really good...as long as they can get my order right! Â So frustrating! Â Somehow when my office caters from Alonti, the food is spectacular. Â However, when I walk downstairs to order myself, something goes wrong between the ordering and eating. Â Wrong dressing, missing pieces of sandwich, doused in mayo, misplaced orders. Â
Somehow I deal with all their mistakes since I like their prices and their food!
EDIT: Â CLOSED AS OF--SOME TIME AROUND OCTOBER 22 07.
So Initially way back when I wrote a 4 star review of this place. Â Then something changed and every time I went there the place got worse and worse.... I slowly changed it to a 1 star. Â
Then I stopped going..
I went yesterday for the first time in about 6 months. Â As I'm ordering, the manager/cashier next to mine exclaims "Dane! are you dane?" ... then the cashier ringing me up said "It's dane!" ....like everyone knew who I was... Â "Are you the real dane?" the manager asked again, as if there were a lot of Dane's floating around writing reviews about Alonti... Â I blushed a little knowing they all knew I wrote them a really crappy 1 star review.. Â Anyway, they comped my meal and were very friendly. Â And then I felt bad. Â I don't know what they did, but it was the best muffaletta I've ever had from there!
As far as food... I always get the same thing... Not because I'm unadventurous, but because when I've tried other things and never found anything I'd want again.
I get the New Orleans muffaletta and a small cup of soup. Â Â The muffaletta is still just over $3 after tax, so its quite a deal. The downside is it seems to take a long time to make it. Â After getting the royal treatment for them and still waiting a good 10 minutes, I realize now that it's just impossible to make it any quicker I guess because they melt the cheese and what not.
They have a daily soup that changes every day, but ever since they raised their prices and put in a new menu, the menu no longer shows what the soup is. Â On Friday, their daily soup special is shrimp bisque. Â Its fantastic. Â
So they've redeemed themselves... Â And I like that they seem to actually pay attention to Yelp reviews.
Their Roasted Chicken Breast Sandwich on foccacia bread is fabulous! It comes with basil mayonnaise; a bit on the pricey end for a sandwich though. Â And their chicken caesar salad is one of the best for lunch in the loop. Â and the soup - their tomato basil is something of a creamy delicious concoction!
and their breakfast - their breakfast taco is this fabulous deal with all this scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon or sausage all on a tortilla - YUM! Â and only $2.50 - can't get any better for that.
