Probably the best restaurant in Alameda. Â I'm so glad they reopened after having a fire a few months back. Â They have incredible cocktails (Whiskey Fizz with a whipped egg? OK) and awesome food. Â One of the best burgers I've had in ages. Â Add to that a great atmosphere and the longest whiskey list I've ever seen, and I'll be going back here as often as possible. Â Unfortunately, it's a wee bit pricier than average restaurant prices, but worth every bit of it.
Review Source:Had a great dinner at American Oak tonight. We had the hamburger with fries (my son gave it the double thumbs up), the Pork and Beans (spice rubbed ribs over baked white beans and frisee with dressing), and salmon over yukon mashed potatoes with basil aioli green beans and grilled peaches. Every dish was fantastic. The atmosphere was great and the service even better. We couldn't stay for dessert, but there was ice cream on the menu (including a custom bourbon with crunchy toffee flavor) with some really great topping choices (including sea salt & olive oil, bourbon, etc.).
We'd definitely come here again.
After a not so good start to the night at another place at jack London Square, we came back to the island  and tried American Oak.  What a difference, great service, great food (kale caesar and manila Clams) and delicious drinks. The food was fresh, hot  and enough to share. We'll be back! The burgers looked delicious! Thanks for turning our night around.
Review Source:I went to American Oak last night for dinner with my family. Â Our service, food and drinks were awesome. Â However, when our party of 5 was seated at a table that seats 6, we were informed that we might have to share the table with another couple and were instructed to squish together. Â The worst part of our evening was not being able to hear each other at our table due to the speaker that is hung in the corner blaring fast paced, unpleasant music. Â When we asked for the music to be turned down a small decibel we were told "No." Â The male staff is very polite, but the female staff has attitude. Â American Oak has been one of our favorite restaurants in Alameda and we have been very loyal patrons, but due to the music issue, uncomfortable chairs and rudeness I may not return.
Review Source:Went to dinner here last Thursday with my friend. We sat outside and it was very nice. We had wonderful service and great margaritas.
Now here is where it gets bad. The fried vegetables were kind of a mess and tasted like fennel. Which is sorta ok but it was over-powerful.
My friend and I split the burger and the fried chicken. The burger was awesome! It was cooked perfectly and the fries were great.
The fried chicken... not so great. The entire plate tasted like fennel. It was in the fried chicken and in with the chickpeas. My friend and I had to peel all the fried parts off of the chicken to make it edible. Â
Then we got the bill and were shocked to see that the fried chicken was $22. I think for fried chicken that we couldn't really eat was a lot over priced.
Miss the old menu and food.
Yeah! another great place in Alameda. Went last night for dinner (without the kids)
The atmosphere was great, service was great, food was great.. everything was great!
Burrata = excellent
Mussels with fries = yummy
Great whiskey / bourbon selection, we tasted four roses single barrel=I liked it!
can't wait to go back there, I heard the mac and cheeses is really good.
I love whiskey.i love burgers.i love mac n cheese. The three things that American Oak excels at. This was one of our go to places for Friday night until they had a fire and shut down for a few months.Luckily, they have reopened and I have been back already, and remembering why i missed it so much. Normally , i just drink rye whiskey or bourbon straight, but their drinks are so good, that i usually order one of their whiskey drinks, a whiskey fizz last time, and it was delicious. I ordered the burger and the mac n cheese and both were orgasmic. Its so good that just writing about it has got me getting dressed and heading over there for more. Thats how good it is. They used to take reservations but now its only for groups over 6 people but last weekend we went on a friday night and got seated within 10 minutes. Ive had alot of their food and most of it is really good but i almost always get the burger and am now always going to order the mac n cheese. im addicted. and my pants continue to get tighter. damn you, american oak.
Review Source:I've been wanting to check out American Oak ever since I've heard about it opening. The bf and I decided to check it out for dinner one day. Had no problems getting seated on a Saturday - we only waited about 5-10 minutes without a reservation.
The decor is somewhat old saloon chic which I appreciated. I love the mounted roll of butcher paper by the door that has all of the day's specials on it.
The bar is HUGE and there are a couple of specialty cocktails on the menu. The bf had a whiskey sour and I had the strawberry bourbon-rita. That drink definitely packed a PUNCH.
Food wise, we decided to split the mac n cheese appetizer and the burger. Â The mac n cheese was really tasty - the pasta was al dente and the cheese sauce was super creamy without being too overwhelming and rich. It also had the perfect hint of smokey bacon, yum yum. The burger comes out on a cutting board with skinny shoestring fries, ketchup, and aioli. The burger was super juicy and I loved the bun! I wish I could have tasted the aged cheddar more though.
Large portions for reasonable prices - I would totally come back!
I seriously could not find a single thing wrong with this place. Amazing freakin wine. Awesome appetizers. Sooo good chicken entree. More good drinks. Great dessert. Great service. Happy staff. Not too loud for a Saturday night. Definitely going back as soon as I can. Favorite restaurant in Alameda!
Review Source:My husband and I came here when it was Barceluna and loved it, so we were bummed about the change. But so far we've had good experiences here. Came with another friend and had burgers, really yum. With aged bourbon manhattans, double yum. These days their aged offering is aged rye manhattans, which are also really good. We came down the other night (Friday) just for their mac and cheese and a manhattan, and hadn't made a reservation..the place was packed! Glad they're doing so well, and we will reserve next time! We ended up eating at the bar, which worked out fine, and that mac and cheese (with salads beforehand) was just what we needed on a rainy night. We'll be back for sure.
Review Source:After a tasting at Hanger 1 it was time to get some food in our bellies. Had a nice dinner on a Saturday night a little after 5PM.
We were greeted and seated promptly. There is a large bar with seating upon walking in and a separate area towards the back facing the open kitchen. We sat in the back. Since it was early (I don't eat this early unless I am eating with grandparents, lol) there were just a few people at the bar. When we walked out at 6:30PM the place was packed.
Our server Erin came right over and explained the different menus we were given. Yes more than 2. We had a HH menu, dinner menu with cocktails on the back, whiskey menu and a wine list. It was a tad over whelming at first glance.
For drinks we ordered off the HH menu. I ordered a gimlet and Hubs ordered the Manhattan. The gimlet was on the sweet side. Maybe too much simple syrup.
The dinner menu is simple and has enough options for everyone to find something to try. I ordered the mixed green salad and buffalo chicken pizza. Hubs ordered a salad and the mussels.
The salads came out pretty quickly and the runner grinded fresh pepper. When the menu says mixed greens that is exactly what you receive. A mountain of fresh greens lightly dressed with vinaigrette. It was delicious and so simple. About 20 minutes later our entrees were delivered. The pizza was large and hung over the plate. It had a little hot sauce, lots of onions, too much blue cheese and hardly any chicken. It tasted okay but the blue cheese and onions was over powering. It was also very greasy and soggy. The outside of the crust was good and crunchy. I had to use napkins to soak up the excess puddle of grease. Hubs had a couple of slices and thought the same. He enjoyed the mussels and French fries. I tried a mussel and it was very moist and the broth was flavorful. He got the better entree.
Erin was a wonder waitress. She checked on us and made sure we had everything needed. A few minutes before HH ended she asked if we wanted another cocktail. There was another employee going around topping off waters and clearing plates for all of the tables.
Price is average for the ingredients, portion and quality. The mixed green salads were $4. each (during HH) pizza was $16., mussels with fries $13., gimlet $6. (HH) Manhattan $7. (HH). Our total not including tip was around $55.
If I came back I would order the burger. I saw them being prepared (a perk of having eye sight on an open kitchen) and it looked delicious.
Overall a 3.5
Love this place. Great food and service every time we have been there. Most recently to celebrate our son's 20th birthday. We all ordered the burger. Best I've had anywhere that I can recall. Perfectly cooked and very tastily seasoned. Not overpowering so you taste the beef and the bun holds up nicely. Comes with some great fries. I can also speak glowingly about the ribeye they serve up on Friday and Saturday. DAMN! These meals also go well with the great spirits menu they have. The bartender makes a great Sazerac. It can get crazy there on Friday and Saturday evening so plan ahead but it's worth the visit. I've always liked the space as it was once Barceluna, nice and comfortable, warm. Will be back during the holidays.
Review Source:We've been meaning to try this place out for quite some time and finally got to try it a couple weekends ago. We made a reservation online about 3 hours beforehand and when we got there we were in the system but were 15 minutes early so we decided to wait for our table to be ready while checking out their whiskey selection, which was quite impressive. If you are a whiskey fan, this spot should definitely be on your hit list. Their dry manhattan is really well made.
Once we were seated we ordered the fried chicken skin as an appetizer (different and delicious) along with a salad (nothing out of the ordinary, but good). For our main courses our group had the ribeye steak (well cooked, nice size juicy), the salmon risotto (seared on the outside so a bit raw on the inside but the consensus was that it was tasty) and in my opinion, the star of this show...the mussels (cooked in a curry garlicky sauce that was tasty and came with a giant mound of seasoned french fries on top...deeelish and I would definitely order that again the next time I make a visit).
The service was friendly and prompt...they kept our water glasses adequately filled throughout the meal. The ambiance is a casual spot but a nice place for dinner and drinks. From the outside it looks pretty small but upon entry, it's pretty large. It's also reasonably priced in my opinion. Parking can be hard to find on a Saturday night...it's street parking or parking in the nearby garage, which we found to be pretty busy when we visited.
Overall, I am pretty sure this will staying on our radar whenever we feel like hitting up a bar that has a great selection of whiskey to enjoy with a good meal.
Great food, service killed it for me. I had the rib eye which was great, and I ordered a Coke to go with it. I sat at the bar and watched the bartender open my can of coke. She filled my glass and left the remaining  soda on her ledge in front of me. I honestly thought  she left it there to give me the rest of my 12ozs as I drank my glass. LOL silly me, she moved it around, and whatnot, but never offered to give me the remaining 3 ozs........ You know what, if you are spending 29.00 on a steak, and 2.00 for a can of coke, can I get all of it? I hope she learned from her tip, thats not how you treat customers, and I wont be back.......
Review Source:Ok prices. Ok service. Ok food. Overall, okay. The menu was a little small for my liking, but oh well. I had a cheese platter. Came with apples, almonds, and nice crusty bread. Also picked off a few of my boyfriend's french fries, and those were good, but nothing to write home about. My boyfriend loved his burger.
I'd likely come back.
OMG the chicken! Â I tried it for the first time last week (during one of my weekly visits here, lol) and I nearly wept tears of joy. Â Brown and crisp on the outside, juicy and moist on the inside. Â Oh and with the rich sauce, fingerling potatoes, wilted greens, and tender cloves of roasted garlic, this dish was a slice of heaven for my palate! Â Soooooooooooooo delicious! Â I don't think I'll be ordering anything else here for awhile...
Review Source:Not such a great spot and certainly Alameda can do better.
The menu is just really small and boring. We did like the chicken (and one was definitely enough for two people), but it was not that interesting. It was just a regular good piece of chicken, and I can buy that same chicken at the butcher's in Alameda.
The dessert menu was very small and I actually did not order anything- which is a real change because I *always* get dessert. I just couldn't find something I even wanted to try.. at all. I was forced to eat a piece of chocolate at home..
I ate here for a birthday party. It was nice they could accommodate our large group. I had the wood oven chicken which was good, but maybe a little too rich about half way through the meal. A few of my friends got the salad with burrata; unfortunately, only one dish actually had the burrata, and the others came out with mozzarella. We had to ask why there was a difference, and the server said it they ran out of burrata - weird they didn't say anything ahead of time, right?
Lastly, I was quite upset about how the host assumed I was part of the big group in the back...the single factor being that we were all young similar looking minorities. At first, I thought this was really nice because maybe my friends described us to the host in advance because we were running late. However, I soon found out my friends said nothing and that all of us were singlehanded told our group was in the back as we were "welcomed" in. Even if we all had looked the same, I wish the host would have provided the courtesy off asking me the traditional "how many" instead of automatically telling me to go to the back. I've experienced this type of stereotyping before, but did not expect it in Alameda of all places.
Meh...
The menu's concept is kind of all over the place and the original cocktails were a little predictable.
First dish were the piquillo peppers which our server infirmed us after our first bite that it was the end of the season and they were spicier than normal...uh yeah did she not see my empty glass of water, maybe it's time to take it off the menu...maybe i'm a wuss...moving on.
Mac n cheese: uninspired with a bonus hair on top.
Fried cauliflower: something off.
Hoisin pork ribs I was looking forward to: they were nice and meaty, however the sauce was too grainy like they just slopped hoisin on them without making a glaze out of it by adding any other ingredients.
All in all, the experience kind of put me in a bad mood. I probably won't be returning.
The first time I went here on a Saturday, we were told that there would be a 45 minute wait for a table for 4. Â When did you have to wait to be seated for dinner in Alameda? Â Anyways, there's plenty other places so we left.
A couple weeks later we went back for a friend's birthday party. Â We were in a group of 12. Â We made reservations this time so we were promptly seated. Â My hubby ordered a margarita pizza and i had the kobe burger. Â We were disappointed with both items. Â We had the pork rinds and fried cauliflowers and fries for appetizers. Â The apps and drinks were ok. Â Not sure why this place got such high ratings. Â Service was slow and food sucks. Â We won't be back.
Good food, good drinks, great service. To those reviewers who find it strange that kids are eating here:
1. This is Alameda, if you want your eatery to survive you have to be kid friendly (the island is already saturated with bars, and populated by families and retirees-this is not a hot spot destination city).
2. They have a KIDS MENU.
3. If you want a kid free place, go to one of the MANY bars on the island (as previously mentioned the island has no shortage of ACTUAL bars).
Where is Reese Witherspoon when you need her?
We tried out American Oak in Alameda, meeting up with a friend of ours. I glanced at their menu and generally liked the idea: Carrying myriads of Whiskeys (Rye, Bourbon, Scotch), try out many, including 5 options of sampler flights. The food menu included 3 pizzas, lots of small plates and entrees.
As you walk in, the place reminds you of an Old West saloon, rustic wood, a bar close to the entrance with an impressivle selections of booze. It is a funky space with lots of openess (=wasted space), and the chairs are old and antique-like (I'm sure staying with the Old West saloon theme) and pretty uncomfortable to sit on.
For the three of us, we started with the following: "Chick-a-rones,"(fried chicken skin with two types of dipping sauce: buffalo style hot sauce and blue cheese dip) and roasted Padrón peppers with goat cheese. I ordered the small batch rye whiskey flights, the two ladies with me ordered cocktails. These two dishes were tasty and very successful - chicken skin was tasty, especially wit the blue cheese dip, and vecause the dip was tasty, we ordered the wedge salad because we knew they served blue cheese dressing. Padrón peppers were all sweet (they have hot and sweet, indistinguisheable, call them the Russian Roulette of peppers), went well with the goat cheese.
We added baby ribs, mussels and fries. Baby ribs were okay, but the mussles were a disaster. for someone who enjoys mussels at Plouf in San Francisco (they are among the best restaurants for mussels, in my opinion), theirs had two issues: old tasting mussels and soggy fries. It seems they used their wood fire oven to cook the mussels, throw on the fries, and cooked them together some more. Yuck.
Food in general was successful, including the dessert=chocolate waffles. These people know how to cook. It's shame I am deducting two stars from my review based on below and that many of us will not come back.
1. We dined on a Wednesday evening, with a fair number of fellow diners. The server told us that they do not have a busser. Well, that would be fine, if the server was attentive and bussed our table often, with clean plates in hand. This did not happened. We ordered enough food and booze to have a check over $120 for three of us, so I'm not sure why we did not receive more attentive and "grown up" service here. Speaking of grown ups,
2. There was a party of 7 adults, plus 2 babies and a 2-year old. Why would you think it is acceptable to dine with two babies and make no attempt to take them out to quiet them down? There were two tables next to us, both of them deuces who were totally annoyed by the lack of action by both the parents and the restaurant staff. Needless to say, none of us will return to this restaurant that allows infants in a place that looks like a saloon, serves whiskeys like a bar, and wait... what was the name of the place again? "American Oak." Â Â Â Â
In the movie "Sweet Home Alabama," Reese Witherspoon's character bumps into an old friend of hers at a bar, carrying her baby. She says to her: "Look at you, you have a baby... In a bar!" This was our experience.
Folks, I have nothing against babies. I have nothing against crying babies either, EXCEPT if they are at restaurants that serve alcohol, in movie theaters, and other places where if you do not step out to calm your child, your inaction offends and ruins other patrons' experience. The fact that they serve pizzas and has a baby chair indicates that they encourge patrons with very small children. This means no whiskey tasting customers should visit here and if I were alone, intending on doing some whiskey tasting, I would have walked out and drove to a place I can do tasting without worrying about crying babies, at Pican in Oakland instead.
The bf and I had a great time here last week. Â The whiskey menu is extensive and impressive, and we got a flight to share (or, rather, he got a flight, and I stole some of it). Â I got the Frisky Wingo, which was a citrusy rye whiskey concoction, and it was very good. Â The drinks are definitely on point.
The food was hit or miss. Â We started with the green salad and avocado deviled eggs, which were a bit bland. Â The crispy prosciutto on top was like tiny strips of concrete - very tough. Â I would not order those again.
The bf got the pork belly and beans. Â The pork was a little too tough on top for his liking, although the beans were cooked perfectly and the whole dish was seasoned perfectly. Â It was a relatively small serving as well, although with the starters it was a good amount.
I originally ordered the Napoletana pizza, but was told several minutes later that they had run out of dough. Â So I switched my order and got the curried mussels with fries. Â This was the most delicious preparation of mussels that I've ever had. Â I could drink the broth they came in - so good! Â This was the highlight for sure, and I wholeheartedly recommend this dish. Â I'm also looking forward to going back for pizza, because it looked really good.
Finally, the service was stellar. Â Exactly the right amount of humor and attention for this type of venue. Â Our servers were all gracious, friendly, warm, and accommodating. Â They also knew their stuff when it came to whiskey, which meant a lot. Â I would feel comfortable coming back here for a quick bite, or for an actual learning experience - to do flights and take suggestions from staff.
It seemed a little slow when we went, which might have been due to it being a Thursday evening, but I do hope this place starts to get a little more attention. Â I'd love to see it stick around!
Wow! More evidence that Alameda is shaking off its hot dog and pizza joint dining persona.
Located in the old Barceluna space, American Oak provides a great dining experience with small plates and satisfying entrees. Service can be a bit hectic when they are busy. The noise level is not too high although sit towards the back of the space to avoid the TV's over the bar.
Impressive!
Me and my friend came out of a movie and decided to grab a casual drink. I had noticed while walking past here that they get busy around nighttime, leaving an impression that this is a place I gotta try. I never got a chance to try Barceluna, but I don't regret it at all. The new owner/makeover sure knows how to treat his customers right.
American Oak is exactly how a local restaurant in beautiful Alameda should run: personalized, warm and welcoming. I had such an amazing experience. this was only my first time, but I already know i'm going back. The hostess was friendly the moment we walked in, the woman waitress we had could have been friendlier and approachable, but from the chef to the other waiters (or maybe even the boss) was extremely friendly, cheerful and sociable. I love being able to joke around and make conversation, it gives me more of a personalized reason to want to come back: knowing that I'm wanted back.
The restaurant had a simplistic and naturalist design, harhar, i get it ...oak. It resonates throughout the whole restaurant. It's simple, yet extremely elegant looking. The restaurant has a humbled look about it and it complements the locality of the restaurant. Upon talking to the waitress, I was really impressed with the restaurant's turn to the use of organic ingredients, it means that the restaurant owner is putting thought into how to enhance the overall quality of the restaurant.
From the hostess to the waiters to the chef, I've felt a warm embrace. If a restaurant can make you forget you're a customer, but a friend upon first impression, then you gotta go back.
I had the Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager and fresh cut fries for appetizer, the portion could have been bigger, but somehow the hospitality made it hard to mind, especially so when towards the end of our meal, we were continuously offered deviled eggs...a lot of them. Seeing as it was the end of the night and closing, I'm not surprised why we were offered them, but in doing so just demonstrated what i was stressing the whole time: hospitality, quality and a welcoming embrace.
Thanks for a great experience, American Oak! I can't envision a better way to end my night!
Formerly the location of Casablanca...the makeover/owner transfer...? has left a very distinct mark on our little island! Â A whiskey bar that will turn anyone into a connoisseur (even me as I am now working my way through their 100 tastings challenge). Â Menu is small but everything is excellent...a bit of classic French cooking techniques mixed with hearty local produce, and you have a culinary experience that will bring you back for more. Â The burger rivals any high end burger around...the mussels are sumptuous (there was a version last season where the chef used mustard on top that I didn't care for at all but he has since changed to a delicious, herby option)...but my current favorite is the roast half chicken done in a small cast iron skillet...OMG! Â
Kids menu honors a growing pallet with sophisticated versions of kid friendly items...and they have a great selection of coloring books, markers, books to help keep everyone busy.
Decor could use some help, but we are starting to see art on the walls, which is nice. Â
This really is a great addition to our island fare...especially on a cold, rainy night when a perfectly made manhattan with a homemade bourbon cherry will hit the spot! Â
And ask for "the Captain" for you server...
American Oak seems an appropriate nom de plume as the decor is naturalist amidst the subdued lighting. seating is scattered thruout the premises, not clustered.
single flatscreen: sports...

-superior pours at bar, bring $$$ or credit card.....
-this isn't a pizza joint. it's boutique whiskey. so drink wisely.
Perfect cocktails, innovative trendy foods with plenty of comfort-food options and pizza. That pretty much sums up my experience at American Oak. A relative who lives nearby invited us to this restaurant for good food and good conversation. American Oak delivered!
The restaurant is sizeable, with a very high ceiling, yet the atmosphere is still warm thanks to the extensive wood and warm tones in the decor. There weren't a lot of people there (Thursday around 7pm), but we sat in a nice, cozy corner with a view of the bar.
For appetizers we got the fried cauliflower which was a little sour on the inside. Unexpected but an excellent compliment to the dish. We also ordered the avocado deviled eggs with crispy parma ham. While the overall flavor was alright, I would say this was the least good dish on the menu. The parma ham added less saltiness than I might have liked and the avocado mixture was too sour for my taste. We followed this up with a pizza which two of us easily shared (even had three pieces left to take home). The pizza was chewy, crispy, cheesy, and just the right thickness even for a pizza snob such as myself (I'm a big fan of neapolitan style pizza which seems hard to get in America).
Our favorite part were our drinks, made with local Hangar One Vodka. Mine was a blueberry vodka concoction with a couple of fresh, firm, crisp blueberries floating in them. The drinks were perfectly balanced between sweetness and sourness, with the blueberry vodka adding deeper layers of flavor that really surprised me. Needless to say we had another round!
TL:DR - Pizza, cocktails, appetizers - yum
I really like this place :)
It definitely a great place to grab a drink, eat, and relax. I really liked the atmosphere, how welcoming it is, the burger, the fried brussels sprouts, the mac & cheese with bacon, the super duper friendly servers, and how un-crowded it was inside.
I ordered a hoppy belgium beer, but would've preferred if they had had a beer that was more in the middle of PBR and then super hoppy-- guess I should just stick to whiskey next time...or the 40oz Miller haha. The location itself was also pretty hard to find, they should invest in some signage. Besides these 2 only mild drawbacks, I absolutely loved this place and want to support them by going back a lot!
Funny thing happened on the way to date night, we found American Oak restaurant and couldn't GET IN! Â Huffing and puffing only works for the three little pigs, in real life, you go to another restaurant. Â Fast forward to this past Thursday's date night and I will tell you without a baliff making me swear on a stack of old Enquirer magazines, that the service, food, and decor was smooth, slick, and stylishly delicious. Â Who would have thought I would order trout. Â Okay, I didn't think I would either, but sometimes it's okay to take chances and chances give you wings.
I'm still reeling from the bacon wrapped trout. Â How'd they get the bacon wrapped around a fillet so smoothly and filled with leeks without falling apart? Â Scotch tape? Â I dunno. Â All I know is that it was sooo good. Â Somebody stepped all over that fish.
My fiance had the chicken. Â I know when he closes his eyes after a bite, either grab the smelling salts or he's in heaven. Â He went to heaven for sure. Â The wine was dark and lean and I don't particularly care for "lean" wines, but it really cut through the fat in my dish. Â My fiance loves scotch and I understand American Oak specializes in whiskeys. Â That's fine. Â I'll stick to my wines.
Anyways, I will highly recommend this restaurant and can hardly wait to go back and try something else on the menu. Â Maybe I should take a dart with me, hang the menu on the wall, and take another chance.
Later Daze
the only reason i am giving this place two stars is because the drinks are pretty good. Â They dont have a menu posted online so it is difficult for me to remember what i had. Â i had a gin cocktail, and some really yummy drink with firelit liqueur in it.
service was good, but they werent very knowledgeable about what was in the drinks or the food itself.
food: Â ugh. Â nothing here was particularly bad per se, but there was nothing on here that was great. Â it was all very heavy-handed and unrefined. Â we had the bacon wrapped trout. Â i was expecting a fillet with some yummy bacon wrapped around it. Â what we got was trout medallions wrapped in some very mediocre bacon. Â you literally could not taste the fish at all. Â all you got was bacon. Â the duck confit cassolet was also pretty unmemorable. Â all of the flavors just kind of melded together. Â we had a few other dishes which i am failing to remember, but they all kind of followed the same trend. Â nothing seemed to be balanced at our table....except for the drinks. Â but i have had better cocktails
i really liked barceluna. Â i dont know why they changed names. Â the food and drinks were way better.
Great service, delicious cocktails and great food. Sampled the fried brussels, mussels/frites and ginger cake with ice cream. Â All were awesome!
Atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Had a wonderful girls night out and can't wait to return soon! Â Very glad this place has graced Alameda.
Seriously, I was upset when Barceluna closed, but elated after coming back to find American Oak killing it with a new menu and a bit changed decor. I had the brussels sprouts (I'm a connoisseur) and they were AMAZING! Then had the burger which was quite honestly the best burger I've had in the East bay ever. And I'm going back on Friday.
Didn't have whiskey, but if that's your thing... then this is your place!
I'm really excited our beloved Barceluna has re-opened into a more adequately named and themed whiskey bar. Still the same people and great food and drinks. Â They have a good variety of food whether it be pizza, salad, soup, fish, or other deliciousness. Â And the bar is AMAZING. Â Get a whiskey flight sampler for a real experience. Â
We'll be back weekly!
