La Peña Cultural Center

I am not connected now but worked there when I was Twenty years old as a cook in the kitchen and my boyfriend was a dishwasher. This was over 30 years ago and I will never forget it in my life. These people were my family and now I fell so emotional just to find that they are still open and operating as a cultural center in Berkeley. I am studying Chile in my anthropology class and I thought of the beautiful Chilean people I met there who told me about their country and introduced me to their wonderful food like empanadas  and seafood soup. I also was a waitress there and served food to Taj Mahal and his family one night. He was giving a concert at La Pena. I will visit there again soon when I can and hope to do it soon This is an amazing magical place.

Saw the incomparable Georges Lammam Ensemble play here and it was an extraordinary evening to remember.  The music was phenomenal and the intimate setting made it all the more enjoyable.  

We definitely appreciated the restaurant and bar next door as well.  Wonderful staff, delicious empanandas and you can bring your wine or beer inside La Pena (in a plastic cup) while you enjoy the show.

Reasonable prices, easy residential parking.  We would happily go again.

This place has such an amazing spirit and energy. The staff are all so kind making this place a true gift to the community! I can't wait to perform there on October 6th!!!!
