Me and a couple friends stumbled in here because the old line popped up from one of the two Alamedaens in the group.
" Hey I've always seen that place but never gone in "
Naturally after having a sushi dinner we walked right in.  Low and behold we were surprised from what we found.  We were totally confused by what the theme of the place was but that's kind of what made it so cool.  It was part dive bar, sports bar, pizza parlor, Mexican restaurant, tamale truck, speakeasy, biker bar.  Whatever they were going for it worked for some reason.  We ordered a round of Jameson's from the bartender who was really nice but not to knowledgeable about the differences in whiskeys and scotches.  A couple of our requests stumped her but luckily we all love the Jameson.  As we sat and appreciated the ambiance along with the A's game a guy came out of the back and asked if were interested in the food.  We told him we just ate but we were curious about what was good.  He simply said "have you had the  steak special?" We said no and he basically talked our heavy set friend into ordering one as it was only 13 bucks.  The steak meal itself didn't look like much but when he bit into the steak we saw the look on his face that told us we needed to try a bite too.  What happened was basically a 3 way foodgasm.  Right there we were sold and immediately discussed our return trip.  That return trip is happening Wednesday the week I write this review.  Take a guess what the 4 of us are going to order that night.
We can't wait.
Last resort hang out with friends and family. Not into bars, clubs or lounges - prefer a low-key place... like at a quiet house. Lots of old faces from the TOWN. Always bumping into someone there. Good music, nasty restroom, lots of seating, parking sucks, and always someone drunk and ret@rded! The only reason why I'm giving it a 3-star is because I know I'll end up going back there for someone's ocassion.
Review Source:Went because we heard Mama Rosa was here and open - old Acapulco cooking. Â It's the same food and recipes, same taste, some of the same staff. Â Even had the same Number 5, which my husband always ordered in the past. Â We had been going to Acapulco since the late 50's and once moved even drove down from the Chico area to eat there once in a while. Were really bummed when they closed their original location. Â Now, it's back! Â Hopefully, they can get better tables etc., to serve their fabulous Mexican food. Â Thanks to the Fire Den for allowing them to be there four days a week. Â Plus that there is now a full bar. Â Will definitely be back.
