The Anchor Bar on Main Street in Buffalo is where "Buffalo Chicken Wings" had its beginning, and though I'm dating myself, I've had the original wings there as were prepared by creator Teressa Bellissimo back in the early 60's, and for what it's worth, the wings served here today don't even begin to compare. The taste is similar but the wings I had were scrawny little things lacking both in meat moisture as well as having a quality of crispness of skin; also expensive for what you get.
Basically this is an airport bar serving up weak overpriced cocktails with substandard services to hungry travels tapped between the security gates having little choice in available bars and restaurants.
The service as quick. I want to say my waitresses name was Julie. I ordered as soon as she grabbed my drink order, and the wings took maybe just 5 min. to get to the table. I ordered them Hot, and they were good. I think i prefer their medium spiced wings though. The hostess and waitresses were very friendly. Speedy and friendly, which is something I want on my way to a departing plane. So good job!
Review Source:Still haven't tried the original place, but not a bad start. Â I kept hearing good things about Anchor Bar, so I was glad to see it was in the airport on my way out of town. Â Stopped in for a bite before my flight and had the Beef on Weck and some wings. Â The sandwich didn't do it for me personally, but I must say, the wings were good. Â The sauce had a great flavor to it. Â Just the right amount of "kick" but the spiciness wasn't overbearing and let the flavor come through. Â
Good atmosphere for an airport restaurant/bar and friendly wait-staff. Â Definitely makes me want to try the original place even more!
