I recently had the opportunity to dine at Angelo's on Main (which is part of the Rockledge Golf Course) as part of a lunch event and had a very pleasant experience from the time I sat down until my last drop of coffee.
Â
The staff was great, making sure each member of our party had everything they needed. Â They did not hover and were discreet with keeping our tables clean and clear throughout our meal.
The meal was served buffet style and the food was better then which one might typically eat at your standard wedding buffet. Â The menu included steamed vegetables, chicken Marsala, a white fish (cod?) in a light butter sauce, pasta with marinara sauce as well as a selection of rolls and a salad. Â
For a crowd of 35 people - they did a good job of keeping the food hot, as well serving chicken that was not dry and rubbery (which is always a crap shoot when eating buffet style) and steamed vegetables that still had a bite to it by the time I made my way through the line.  I should have passed on the pasta with marinara sauce which was flavorless and required more then its fair share of Parmesan cheese and the salad that was drowning in some type of Italian dressing.  We were also served dessert, but I was so full that I did not try the vanilla fudge ice cream roll  dusted with cocoa power.
All in all a pleasant experience and I would definitely like to come back to try the items on their regular menu. Â I hope to soon, as Mark is a member of Rockledge Golf Course and I would gladly be his caddy for a free meal :)
I always have a very positive experience at this restaurant. Â Not only to I appreciate the nice view but free parking seems to be a thing of the past anywhere else in West Hartford! My friend and I go on a more and more frequent basis and always have a couple of drinks, whether it be from their wine or martini list and sometime eat dinner or just an appetizer. Â In my experience the service is always very friendly and accommodating. Â They have often modified food order to my specifications. Â They also always greet us with a smile and seem to recognize many of the guests that frequent the place. Â There definitely seems to be many regulars there. Â
The food is always good and fresh, specials are offered daily, varying by the season. Â I hope to further explore the menu in the future.
We have been going to Angelo's for years, both for dinner and special events (such as shows!).
We have always had stellar service from all of the staff, who are kind enough to modify my dinners to accommodate my allergies :)
The food is delicious, especially the gnocchi, which is a family favorite!
I have always recommended this place to my friends and will continue to do so! :)
You guys rock!!!
Had dinner here one night last week and the waitress really ruined the experience for me. She kept touching me and patting me on the back and calling me dear. I am a grown women not a child!! Food was mediocre at best but the service was awful. Someone should tell this woman that hands off is a good rule of thumb with strangers!! Maybe if she had concentrated on providing better service instead of telling me her life story I would have left a better tip! By the end of it I knew all about her kids and her dog. Give me a break!!
Review Source:I came here for an event two or three weeks ago and it was a really nice time. Â The event was in the evening and we arrived just as the sun was starting to set which made for some gorgeous pictures outside on the deck that overlooks the Rockledge Golf Course and the Farmington River Valley. Â The setting is really what made this place stand out.
Once inside we noticed white tablecloths and centerpieces on all the tables. Â It looked quite elegant. Â The event lasted three to four hours and included a buffet dinner. Â On the buffet menu there were rolls, salad, pasta with a tomato sauce, chicken parm, and steamed veggies that had broccoli and carrots. Â Dessert was a beautifully presented ice cream roll with cocoa dusted on the sides and served with a dollop of whipped cream. Â Coffee was served with dessert. Â The food was actually a little better than ok, but I had a pomegranate martini that I was not a fan of and tasted strong. Â Not like they gave me my money's worth of vodka but instead like it was made with a cheaper vodka. Â I took two sips and had to move on.
The staff were great and were attentive without hovering. Â They accommodated a large group very well. Â All in all, our group had a good time at Angelo's that night.
Maybe one star is too low -- perhaps one and a half would be more accurate. Â Just a very bland menu. Â Nothing that gets you excited, and it's not real cheap either. Â Lobster Mac "n Cheese was nothing special for $20.00 and the last time I had a NY Sirloin it was a cheap cut of meat and overcooked. Â The garden salad was good and the service was friendly, but other than the deck in the summertime, there's no reason to go to this place other than to have a drink in the bar.
Review Source:Meh. Â Standard American fare, standard menu. Â Nothing really stands out. Â The food is pretty generic--not awful, but not spectacular (although my father swears by their BLT, which he describes as the "simplest, cleanest" BLT he has ever tasted).
I wouldn't exactly call Angelo's a "destination location", but it is a tried-and-true locals' haunt around these parts. Â That said, the balcony tables, which overlook the pristine golf course, offer up one of the better outdoor dining experiences in West Hartford (best on summer evenings, of course).
I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but its location is of the utmost convenience, so I find myself here more often than my palate might approve. Â
I imagine everything tastes better after a round of golf anyways.
Upgrade them to three stars: "A-OK."
Staff improvements since the commencement of the season this year are wonderful!
We've stopped in for a drink even when not golfing. The place is as bright, clean and airy as ever. There seems to be a friendlier vibe at the bar, too.
Finally. It's a beautiful place and I just wish they wouldn't rest on those laurels... they could become really, really hot if they just would improve the food quality a little bit.
